In other words, this is where we talk about how the reviewers liked this here game, and whether we think they're talking out their arses or not. This is mostly going to be online or US Magazine reviews for now, since it's gonna be a while for Europe to catch up. (Release dates... don't go there. PlayAsia rocks.)
First things first, we'll start with the two ranking sites, Gamerankings and Metacritic. (As new reviews come in, these'll change)
Metacritic: 78
Gamerankings: 76
Now, out of the two I'd say Metacritic is the better site to listen to, as they do weighted averages. That means that better written, or more prestigious reviews count for more than the others, and I find that usually makes a more accurate claim. Also, these don't count the Famitsu review (36 out of 40 or 90%), so I've created my own number for reference.
Metacritic w/ Famitsu: 84
Gamerankings w/ Famitsu: 83
Now, onto the reviews themselves:
1UP: 85 'Couple the comedy with Justice's engrossing story and you have a case that would be criminal not to take. '
IGN: 83 'This may just be yet another of Capcom’s infamous rehashes, but it’s so much more enjoyable than most that it’s extremely hard to ignore.'
Games Radar: 80 'Apollo Justice delivers the same winning formula we've come to expect, throws in some refreshing new twists, and leaves us satisfied yet still eager to see where the story will go.'
Game Informer: 80 'It’s funny, unique, and breaks up the text scrolling with more varied activities'
Video Game Talk: 80 'Apollo Justice delivers an evolved version of the Phoenix Wright titles, but the overall experience has been shortened dramatically.' (NB: They don't seem to get the other ones were ports :P)
Nintendo Power: 80 'With that said, the latest Ace Attorney game is an excellent continuation of the series, featuring more compelling mysteries to unravel and lots of memorable characters.'
Game Pro: 75 'It's a solid distillation of the franchise formula and if you haven't yet had your fill, I wholly recommend the game, because you will no doubt enjoy it. But I personally couldn't get over how derivative the game felt.'
Play Magazine: 55 'Plead nolo contendere, Apollo.' (To explain, nolo contendere means, no contest. It basically means 'I didn't do it, but I'll accept the guilty verdict')
Finally, here are the unfinished results of the CR poll. We're ignoring the 'I haven't done it yet', or 'haven't bought it' columns, and I've altered the percentages accordingly
Beat it, LOVED it! (275/413) 66%
Beat it, thought it was good (96/413) 23%
Beat it, thought it was average (21/413) 6%
Beat it, didn't like it (5/413) 1%
Beat it, it SUCKED (16/413) 4%
So, if we ignore the people who thought it was average, 94% had a positive impression of the game, and 6% did not.
