mark all spoilers.

I hate the following:
-Thalassa <m'gawd, it's a nightmare>
-Wocky <SERIOUSLY WHO EVER HEARD OF THE NAME WOCKY!?!?>
-Olga <just sounds bad>
-Machi <this sucks almost as much as Wocky>
-Vera <just doesn't sound right for Makoto>

Names that are ok:
-Daryan
-Valant
-Zak
-Lamiroir

I still think Apollo's last name is pretty silly, the judge saying "Mr. Justice" sounds especially stupid.

I wasn't really a big fan of Trucy at first, but it's grown on me.

Other than that, none of the names really bother me.

I'm going to also have to say Wocky as well. Dumb name and his character and way of speaking just grated me.

For the record, Machi's name was pretty close to the original. Unless they changed the pronunciation to "Mah-chee."

Just off the top of my head: Svetlana, Katrina, Larissa. But hey, it was the American localisation that gave her a name to match the club; she had a Japanese name in GS4. I'm not fond of the sound of "Olga," but it does work with Orly.

As for my disappointments, Klavier is zehr cool, but my god, he's named after a piano! They have laws against that sort of madness in Germany.

And Thalassa? As a Sandman fan I cannot abide by this name, because Thessaly rolls off the tongue easier. :gipsy: Not that I'm suggesting this nice lady is anything like that witch...

Apollo Justice.

Why would they name him Justice? It's just dumb. I mean, Phoenix Wright was obvious, but at least Wright is a real last name.

Justice is just like Capcom was saying "OH HEY WE COULDN'T THINK OF ANOTHER WITTY NAME SO YOU GET THIS BULLSHIT!" Thanks, Capcom.

Olga Orly. What the everloving f---. Okay, even if she isn't really Russian, they could've given her a prettier (or more Russian) name.
Klavier. It wouldn't suck so phenomenally if Konrad didn't outrock it so much.
Trucy. Just no. Please no. And emphatically no.
Crescend. It fits with the original kanji, but... bah.
Vera Misham. I was totally prepared to change Super Makoto into its English variant, and then they give us this. Oh well, I love Makoto Ese anyways.
Ema Skye. That's "Mrs Ema Edgeworth" to you! *ka-tonk*

Olga Orly... the first time I was ever disappointed with a name in PW series.
the first time I saw that name in the game (I didn't spoil myself by reading anything online), I immediately thought, I can't believe Capcom went as low as this, this Orly joke has already gone way too far on the internet...
Olga itself is a fine Russian name, but Orly....

Wocky was bad in first impression but it became ok as I play the game..

The rest are ok. I actually absolutely loved the name "Lamiroir". Fits her mysterious yet beautiful character very much.

Justice is a real name but not one that you can associate with. It's a rather dumb idea though for Capcom to play on. Anyway, here's my list...

Wocky Kitaki - I mean, how wussy is that freaking name. I can accept Takita as it's almost yakuza based but still...grow up...
Alita Tiala - Not quite as elegant as Minami Namina...
Pal Meraktis - Stop playing on doctors being pals for society for once...
Wesley Stickler - Better if they had "Wankel Stickler" instead...
Valant Gramarye - The last name is a bit suss though...
Thalassa Gramarye - I prefer Teressa or something similar...not Thalassa...that's a bit too old fashion though...

You are aware his name is a pun on 'malpractice,' right? Quite the opposite of being a pal for society.

Anyway, I was happy with all of the names. Some of the script made me go 'Uugh' in relation to the names (like Olga's "And my last name sounds like 'Oh really!'" Thanks.) but the names themselves I like.

Think of it this way: the game takes place in Los Angeles. His name could have been Apple. Or Moon Unit.

Pal Meraktis: clever.
Apollo Justice: gnnh.
Spoiler: Apollo
He is an orphan though, right? Maybe he gave himself the name after becoming determined to become a lawyer.

And it's better than ''Shock Lawguy". Or is it? Maybe that's what his longer haired concept art alternate self in the full red suit could be called.

They had exactly the right number of jokes about Orly for it to not grate for me. Folks who play AA:AJ first before any of the PW games might not have the same tolerance though... :sadshoe:

Good explanation for Pal Merakits, but I personally liked the one CR profiles provided-
Spoiler: Pal Merakits name spoiler
On the CR profiles if you click Pal Merakits in the GS4 section they explain the pun.
Pal Merakits
Mal Perakits (it sounds like malpractice)

Personally I'm not too fond of Wocky. If they were okay with the last name why not just keep the first then too? I understand his parents since their names are obviously Japanese, but Takita doesn't sound a name just Japanese people give to their children. And it would have followed along great with Alita's pun.

I can bear with Alita Tiala- only because they followed the anagram pun like in her Japanese name. Minami Namina have the same number of letters and sound very similar to each other. The only change the spelling since Alita Tiala is a complete anagram (same letters and number of letters).

The only one I personally hate as far as now are:
Zak Gramarye
Shadi Smith
Magnifi Gramarye
Spark Brushel (the last name is okay, since they followed the toothbrush/paste pun)
Winfred "Big Wins" Kitaki (Winfred? wtf XO Okay so he only appears like three to four times, but really now)

it sounds too obvious unlike phoenix wright, wright is an indirect reference to law and such but justice is too raw. also the name apollo kinda sucks. :yuusaku:

Errr. All of them.

Trucy isn't a name, Apollo Justice sounds stupid, "Gavin" is dumb, and all of the minor characters are possibly slightly retarded. Also, Thalassa, Valant, Magnifi, Shadi and Lamiroir just piss me off.

Regarding Lamiroir, though - you never have an r before the "oir" sound in French, because it doesn't work when you try and say the word. The name "Lamiroir" is no exception, so I've been pronouncing it la-mi-roh-eer, like she's a fantasy novel character or something. Stupid.

Really? I've been pronouncing it like the french "la miroir". :/ (Even though it would actually be "le miroir" - I'm pretty sure 'miroir' is masculine.)

They probably used "la" to emphasize that it was a name for a female. But yes, miroir is masculine in the French language.

.. And I swear I've heard of people being called Trucy before... or at least Tracy.. so the name wasn't that bad for me. They tried to keep the same pun that her Japanese name had, so I can appreciate that.

I have no problem with Pal's name whatsoever, but maybe that's because I pronounce it differently, since I have a friend named Pal (pronounced as "Paul"). I think you guys hate it 'cause you look at it as being pronounced as "Paal." Hope that makes sense.

I thought Apollo Justice was a silly name, but I've gotten used to it. I thought they ought to have made fun of it more often, though. But I guess with all the nicknames he's given, It's close enough. xd

I liked all the ones the OP named. I didn't like Shadi Enigmar (and Shadi Smith), because it sounded too cheesy, Apollo Justice for the same reason, and Piano Gavin.
