Apollo Justices' Red suit.

Phoenix Wrights' suit was/is Blue.

I don't like Red.

What's missing? Hmm...
Being a non-generic character?
Idealism, passion and a captivating backstory?

Think about it. Why is Apollo a defense attorney. Because, it kind of seems like a good enough occupation for the time being and he can make required money while [we assume] kind of helping people on the side. Yeah, booooring...

The other defense attorneys:

Mia - Driven, became a lawyer on a mission to expose the people who destroyed her mother. Since she abdicated her right to be Kurain Master, it demonstrated she was the type of person who decided, well, these petty squabbles which tore apart sisters for generations are not going to continue with her.

Phoenix - He's got a certain idealism. He's not doing it for the money, he's fighting for justice and the genuine belief in his client. About 1 minute into the first game we learn of his driving determination to help people with no one on their side and his determination to help his friends. He's on a genuine mission to save Edgeworth and, in games 2 and 3, fight for justice, Maya, Iris etc...

Apollo kind of gets manipulated by others, does what they tell him, and gets large parts of his case solved by others, not just hints which he figures out himself. I mean, is Apollo even aware he's part of a 'mission' to clear Phoenix's name? He's usually completely oblivious as to why he's doing what Phoenix tells him most of the time. Lawyer Phoenix was much more, I guess, autonomous. Like he thought and made decisions for himself and had actual compelling character-driven reasons for doing so.

Apollo doesn't seem to have captivating motivational reasons for doing anything to interest the player, and by default becomes a bit-player in other people's schemes [Kristoph, Phoenix.] The only one with a compelling 'mission' in game 4 is.. Phoenix.

Hmm. Anybody have other ideas?

...Mission? I wonder what's your definition of "mission"...defences' mission is not fighting for someone they know, but for their clients(or justice, whatever). So how can the willing of earning money become something wrong? Apollo don't defense ONLY because of money after all. Being a good lawyer must never think about money?Come on.

And I believe Apollo always says he fight for justice in the game, I don't know why you've never seen it.

There's nothing wrong with Apollo being less idealistic or strongly driven by a greater goal or ideal like Phoenix and Mia were. But it's a dimension that made Phoenix more interesting and compelling that Apollo lacks.

I'd say Apollo is more idealistic. Phoenix was trying to protect his friends and he was willing to bend the rules when needed. Apollo wants to see justice served for the sake of justice and he's more uncomfortable bending the rules. I don't know why people talk about Apollo doing it for the sake of money. He makes one joke about wanting to know if he was going to be paid (and continued on even when he found out that his payment was salty noodles at best) and then stops complaining. We see no evidence that he actually got paid for those cases he took (or that he got paid a lot). And the time he whines about money, he had been out of work for a couple months. Eating is a good thing. Besides, Phoenix whined about money the whole first game, so that's kind of tradition for the newbie attorney. Phoenix often had to be dragged into cases that did not involve his immediate friends while Apollo is thrilled for the chance to actually practice his profession and help people (even strangers).

Hey! By the end of the first game, Phoenix was taking on demon prosecutors, the chief of police, the mob...he ain' no rookie, playa'!

Don't worry, though...my consensus, at least, is that Apollo will feel like a bit more of a star once Phoenix starts leaving him to his own business.

The thing that got me was that you didn't really know why Apollo became a lawyer. Although i do like the game it has an interesting plot and i don't mind Apollo being the main character.

Hey, quite a lot was revealed in the first game, even if we don't learn why he's a lawyer. But the general reason is that he wants to serve the law in every way. When Phoenix told him the Ace was forged, he kinda freaked out.
