Eternal Diva is an animated Professor Layton movie they're making. I'm pretty sure it's set in the past. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9qn56teC2o

If Wikipedia's right (and following the trailers, it's probably not), it's set in the past, after Specter's Flute.

That reminds me, what translated title, out of the three that appeared, do you think will resemble the official one the most? By the three that appeared, I mean The Devil's Flute, The Specter's Flute, and The Flute of Malevolent Destiny.
I like Devil's Flute, but they changed "Devil's Box" to "Diabolical Box", so they can't turn this into "Diabolical Flute".
The Specter's Flute seems more likely. If they choose this one, they'll probably change it to "Phantom's Flute" or "Ghost's Flute".
And The Flute of Malevolent Destiny is... too long, I guess. "The Flute of Destiny", maybe?

I doubt it will be Flute of Malevolent Destiny, and I hope it's not Ghost's Flute or Diabolical Flute. I'm hoping for Specter's Flute.

Y'know, I actually don't mind the Phantom's Flute. Maybe it's the Ph and F sounds that get me.

Professor Layton and the Cookie Jar of Malevolent Destiny
Uh... Guess I'd go with Spectre or Phantom. I remember hearing somewhere that they wanted a name that suggested spiritual but not evil, so that would rule out Devil for me.

I don't know what the heck happened with that. But, once I read that the live-action movie would be called "The Eternal Diva", then they announced the animated film would use that name. Since then I started doubting of the live-action movie's existance.

After watching a Specter/Phantom/Whatever's Flute Japanese trailer, I'm starting to find Jean de Squall as an awesome antagonist.

I TOTALLY agree with this. Also I ADORE the new Puzzle themes for Last Time Travel and Specter's Flute. I had no idea they had changed it!

It kind of makes me sad Diabolical Box didn't get its own Puzzle theme :(

Jean de Squall is the serious bad guy the Layton series needed. Don Paolo isn't even a menace, and Anton, I have yet to see, but I do know he appears in just one game.

Baron, Jean de Squall appears in Mask of Miracles, but not in Eternal Diva. The antagonist in Eternal Diva is Ozro Vislar, a pianist. He's the one who appears in the trailers saying "The game for eternal life will now begin" and such.

The guy in the Eternal Diva trailer sure looks like Juan de Squall. They all have the same mask anyhow...
Don Paolo is the Team Rocket of PL.
Uhm, isn't it "Juan"? Just rewatched the trailer...

I don't know, some name it "Juan de Squall", some "Jean de Squall", some "Jean de Scole", so I have no idea. I like Jean de Squall the most, since it fits with a French feel. Juan de Squall feels like a mixture betwen Spanish and French.

Just realized that the music in the trailer is an orchestrated version of the music in the first game. Don't I feel stupid.

But still, EPIC.

She does have an American accent in the 2nd game, but in the first game she also sounded American - but she did seem to be "suppressing" her accent more. I played the US version of the first game but, at least according to the Layton Wikia, she was voiced by the same woman in both games - in fact, only Luke's VA seems to change between versions.

...Well, after a few rewatches of the movies in the first game, I suppose Flora could've been American in the first game, but I can't tell; she just sounds really different somehow between the two games. Then again, she only had, like, two lines in Curious Village aside from gasping and so on. I just remember meeting Flora in Diabolical Box with her "I'm sorry! I just didn't wanna be all alone again!" and my reaction was just "What the hell HAPPENED to you?"

I can't believe not a single person posted here in ten days. I know that most people are losing interest because PL3 is taking too long to come out, but...it's still surprising. If this reaches one month...

!? Are you insane? The most fun part of the sliding puzzles are the obnoxiously unhelpful hints!

Wait, that's not true. Shuffling around pieces randomly in The Ultimate Escape (or Diabolical Box for those of you in the US) to see if I could reach 10000 moves was kinda fun as well.

Personally, I prefer the Knight's Tour out of all of the most tedious types of puzzles. At least it's fun to watch that little knight bounce around the chessboard as it inevitably gets stuck time after time after time...

Where have I been all this time. This is where I belong.

Yeah I'm a big PL fan. Finished the first two games in English. The first one's my favorite. Favorite puzzles are the slidey ones. I love Don Paolo <3

Well guys, I managed to snag the Eternal Diva soundtrack! Despite the fact that its lacking a lot of the familiar themes and Nishiura flair, its very wonderful. A lot of vocal tracks :3

Wow. So I got both English Layton games for myself to ease the suffering of waiting for AAI...but I beat them both over the course of the last 5 days. I'm obsessed. Now I'll need something to ease the pain of waiting for Last Time Travel. (And it really doesn't even have a release date yet?! :beef:)

Since you folks have been in the know longer than I, perhaps you could direct me to the favored resource for Layton fans. The first google result for layton fan sites seems to not really have much up yet, and the forum mentioned a few pages back hasn't seen much activity since October. Is this very thread the only place on the internet where people are talking about the good professor?

I like them until they get up into the 60+ picarat range, and then they're torment. That freaking trash puzzle in Diabolical Box haunted my very soul. I finally banned myself from hitting the 'restart' button and solved it...with like 500 moves.

I hate it so much when I struggle for half an hour with a puzzle, and Luke goes, "har har that was ollmost too easy!" Shut up, kid.

They probably don't want CR to get TOO off-topic... I mean, WHAT A!? is for CiNG in general, really. Personally, I think Professor Layton's fanbase is way too big. Not to mention WHAT A!? is the only Hotel Dusk fansite in existence...

The game style of Professor Layton and Ace Attorney aren't even that related. We could have a Final Fantasy, Pokemon and Megaman fansite as well.

Wait, that's not such a bad idea...

My thoughts exactly. Also they break flow (If puzzles can break flow in a puzzle game XD) because I often get stuck on them for days and the hints are no help at all. It doesn't really matter earlier on, and I think PL1 got it right by not putting any really hard sliding puzzles in the Tower, but that sliding key one at the end of PL2 really broke flow and took away from the atmosphere.
