Well, what do you guys think of this?
I am really happy, and my sister, who's a huge fan of Avatar: The Legend of Aang, was estatic.

It seems fantastic, and it's by M. Night Shyamalan. My mum said he's great.

Woah, I thought it was gonna suck... But that trailer seems extremely loyal to the series!

Damn you Mina, now I can't wait for this movie to come out.

I love ATLA!! At first, I was really upset with the casting choices, but after seeing the teaser on tv, I'm really excited for it. It looks pretty awesome!

The effects look fantastic. I'm reserving judgment on the actors until I actually see them, you know, act - but I definitely want to see this. I adored the cartoon.

I don't understand the hype the trailer's recieving. The teaser alone didn't seem that special ot me, although I did find it interesting that M. Night Shymalan (sp?) is behind it. Ignoring the teaser though, I did enjoy the show and it'll be interesting to see how well the movie brings the shopw to the big screen, but...Did anybody find that the actor playing Aang is a little young? I dunno about you guys, but in comparison to Aang form the TV series, the kid playing him seems pretty small.

When I saw the trailer in...I forget which movie but, I yelled out loud, WHAT A TWIST!!!

I was almost kicked out because of that. How can he direct it?.....I guess I'll have to see to find out.

I look forward to this film, I really liked the series. Though I am kinda disappointed that Aang is white.

WHY CAN'T THEY HAVE AN ASIAN ACTOR LIKE THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO?!?

Well it's a bit late to be complaining about it.

Just be grateful that they switched out Jesse McCartney for Dev Patel as Zuko.

I haven't been that impressed with anything Shyamalan's done since the The Sixth Sense, but I'm so in love with the Avatar series that I'll be in line for this movie opening night. I'm really curious to find out just how much of the story he'll be telling in the movie...it seems like he could at least get a trilogy out of it. Does anyone know if that's the plan? That would make me feel better about the apparent lack of Toph.

The special effects look amazing, IMO. All the fire and water and the earthbending... wow. #

I wonder if he's going to create a whole new spinoff story or just recreate the series.

They're probably doing "The Last Airbender", "The Burning Earth" and "Into The Inferno", one for each book. Of course, that's if the first one does well. But I'm pretty sure I read that M. Night said he would write the second film while preparing to shoot the first one. If that's true, it should be already finished by now, since shooting already ended.

Also, I know the series has heavy asian influences, but why the hell do you care if the actors are white or black or asian or whatever? Race should be the least of your worries: They are hired to act, not represent an ethnic community. If they can do the character appropriately, then they are good for the role.
Needless to say, I saw it pretty hard for Jesse McCartney to adapt Zuko. I know Zuko was white, but... I just can't see him as Jesse McCartney. Race shouldn't be a problem when hiring an actor, but physical likeness should. At least the smallest physical likeness is enough, make-up can do the rest.
Now Dev Patel... I don't care for his looks or whatever, he's a terrific actor, and I'm sure he will do an epic Zuko.

Well, Aang is implied to be asian. it just seems a little more fitting to me, but in the end, it doesn't really matter.

Oh my fucking God I'm in love with Shyamalan.
Seriously. That trailer just made me shiver. In the good way.

This seems like an impressively loyal adaptation so far. I swear to God I've seen one of the scenes in the trailer in the cartoon. I'll search screenshots, but I can remember it: Aang blowing away two Fire Nation soldiers through a hallway, after the Blue Spirit rescues him.

EDIT: Apparently, after watching the episode again, I noticed that isn't the scene. I don't recall if the scene I'm thinking about is exactly like oin the trailer, but that part of the trialer is extremely familiar to me.

[sigh]

I've watched the trailers and they look cool... but every time I hear about "The Last Airbender", only one thing comes to mind...

Shyamalan.

I don't know whether to trust this guy with one of my most beloved series of the last decade. I've heard bad, bad things of The Happening and I couldn't even watch Lady in the Water completely because I got bored silly at the 20-minute mark. I don't even wanna talk about the casting choices, or the special effects (which are nice, but I felt the bending styles moved a tad too slow)... just the fact that Shyamalan is directing it makes me hold back on the hype machine. Oh, I'll watch it, but I am not hopeful for it.

(but who knows, maybe I'll end up pleasantly surprised. Michael and Bryan are on board, and they're not just gonna let their baby get disfigured like that... I hope.)

The problem with Shyamalan these days is that he's become incredibly arrogant (or at least, comes across that way!) Lady In the Water and The Happening both made that painfully apparent in his directing style. Which isn't to say that the movie will be bad...but I wouldn't have much faith in his adaptation being accurate. If he's gotten it into his head that this is *his* movie I wouldn't put it past him to go nuts.

Just when I thought he was getting better...

Finally figured out what seemed off to me. Aang is too young! It might just be nitpicking, but in the cartoon Aang looked like he was about 14 or so, in here he looks like he's 10. He's just way too young, especially in comparison to katara or whatever her name is.

Okay, that hero-hero-villain picture is hilarious.

I read that Shyamalan wanted to make this movie because his kids were big fans of the cartoon. For that reason, I'm not that worried that he's going to make it into a "Shyamalan" style movie--he's not making for himself, he's making for children he knows who are actual fans of the source material. Imagine if he screwed it up big time and his kids were pissed at him for it. :redd:

I disagree with this. Cartoon Aang always came across to me as teeny-tiny. I got the sense that he was small for his age, in a compact Asian monk kind of way. The Aang/Katara stuff always sort of creeped me out because of that--personality and size wise she seemed a lot more grown up.

^Yeah, Aang did start out as a happy-go-lucky 12 year old boy, but if you compare the Aang from the first few episodes to the last few, there are major differences. Sure he still had his immature moments, but so did Katara. I don't really see what's so creepy about Aang and Katara being together at the end. It's only a two year difference.

It's probably because I'm shallow, and I know that at fourteen I never would have gone for a twelve-year-old that was shorter than me. Think of her as an eighth grader for a minute. That doesn't seem weird?

I guess that's true if you think about it today. I know I probably wouldn't have either. But when you think of it today, yeah, an 8th grader dating a 6th grader is kind of weird, but that's not the setting of this show. It's not supposed to be our world. But just as I mentioned before, it seemed like he really aged quickly throughout the series as he realized the seriousness of his responsibility, so I never really thought, "ew he's a 12 year old!!" whenever they had moments together or whatever. Age shouldn't matter in love, as long as the feeling is mutual :] Also, I liked it because it was different than most movies and shows, where the older, taller guy gets the usually younger girl.

Oh, HELLS no! Is it just me, or does that Appa have a man-face? He did not look like that on the cartoon. Can it really be that bad for CGI to emulate what a 2D drawing captures so well? PLEASE let that amazon reviewer be right, and that this is not Appa's final movie design.

And you know what else had a man-face?

Hold up, Aang and Katara aren't the same age?!?! (o_0)

I always thought they were both around 12 and that Sokka was 14-15... Oh well, I still like Aang/Katara though.

And that Appa looks accurate enough, why does everyone seem to be so mad over it?
