Exactly what it says on the tin.

Are you gonna get this? I know I am!
And I for one, want it to have a good story. Rosalina only comes near earth every 100 yrs, right? so surely she can't be involved again...? Unless she decided to come more often.
If they manage to best SMG, we're talking BEST GAME EVER here people.

Well, discuss.

Probably I will get it too :D
My theory about the story: Bowser decides to kidnap Rosalina. During the kidnapping, a Luma was able to escape. This Luma goes to the Mushroom Kingdom, tells Mario what happened, transform into a shooting star, and Mario goes to explore the galaxy again.
And there will be Yoshi and the game will be harder... Maybe it can be better than the first one... maybe...

I'm really looking forward to this game! Hmm... Kidnapping Rosalina could develop a good plot... Hopefully.
But anyway, the playability is great, and let's face the truth, we can't expect very good plot with Mario... Maybe the best Mario plot I saw was in Super Paper Mario, but it was still quite lame.

Sounds a lot like Paper Mario to me.

I'm just hoping that this is not a map expansion pack.

Frankly, that's exactly what I think it will be, with some minor additions like Yoshi, that screw item, etc.

I know Galaxy 2 is supposed to be harder than the first one, but I'll believe that only when I play it. The original was not very difficult in the first place, and I'm highly skeptical that, given the fundamental gameplay system the sequel shares with the original, they can make the sequel much harder.

Just to be clear, I really did not like Mario Galaxy. If you want to know where I'm coming from, feel free to take a look at this: http://gamesforjames.blogspot.com/2009/09/case-against-super-mario-galaxy.html

Not trying to sound trollish, I'm just not feeling particularly hopeful about this game (but of course I'll still buy it anyway just to make SURE it's actually no good).

Well shit.

If Galaxy hadn't had it's beautifully playful physics, it would still have been one of the most beautiful games on Wii, first for it's outstanding music, and then for it's narrative. Giving some story to Mario games isn't bad, Shiggy. It actually helps a lot, if done appropiately and moderately.

As long as Galaxy 2's story has a unique plot like Galaxy had, and doesn't stay too close to the Mario Pattern (Bowser kidnaps Peach, Mario goes through levels, Mario defeats Bowser, Mario rescues Peach, repeat), it'll be a good game, though not as deep as Galaxy. Really a downer, since deepness was a big part of Galaxy's charm.

What. The. Hell.

Why can't a mario game have a good story? I understand that it should just be bright and cheery-like, but Galaxy managed to have a great, unique storyline (compared to other mario games) and still feel like a mario game, not just a zelda game with mario instead of Link.
I really liked Rosalinas background, it gave something to think about other than just saving peach. (AGAIN)

Well, thats made my opinion of SMG2 go down quite a bit.
Lets just hope if theyr'e not going to concentrate on the story, they at least put THREE TIMES moar effort into visuals and music

I thought it was fine, actually. I have to admit I didn't "love" a lot of the music, and much of it doesn't really "feel" like it should be in a Mario game, but that didn't stop me from enjoying at least some of it! My absolute favorite has to be Buoy Base, followed by Battlerock, Peaceful Stars, and Gusty Garden.

Now if you're thinking something along the lines of "Oh wow, 4 songs you really liked," I'd say that Galaxy's music was just not a big concern of mine, because the gameplay was a much huger problem (to me).

On a slightly different note, I do think it would be really nice if they brought Koji Kondo back as a full composer. I'm thoroughly sick of him making a few contributions here and there while leaving the bulk of the work to someone else. All those wonderfully memorable Mario soundtracks we love (particularly Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and Super Mario 64)? Totally composed by him, and no one else!

Just imagine what we could be listening to if he would take the reins once more...:larry2:

Seriously, it was one of the most brilliant and beautiful scores I've heard. And believe me, a lot of people agree.

I'm very excited for this game, the first one is one of the most fun games I have ever played, and best on the Wii. But of course, a Mario game being the best on the Wii? who would of guessed! Besides that, anyone hear that rumor that Sonic might be in the game? that makes me even more excited for this game! I can't wait!

It's just that: a rumor, and nothing else. I can guarantee you 100% that Sonic isn't in the game. Well, not 100%, more like 99.9999999%.

Now this is truly fixed. Gameplay, plot and nothing else. Visuals and music do not matter as much, and even if they did, the original had the best graphics on Wii and an excellent musical score.

Anyway, I am very excited for this game. I'm just disappointed that Shiggy was stupid enough to think that Mario games don't need plots. They do. DESPERATELY. It's the same thing every time!

-Bowser kidnaps Princess
-Mario goes through levels
-Mario defeats Bowser; rescues Princess
-They celebrate
-Mamma Mia! Here we go again! Again! Again!
(repeat)
(repeat)
(repeat)
etc.

Great. I just hope they make some good new levels that aren't extremely similar to the original's levels, make some good new powerups, and put Yoshi to good use.
Say, that reminds me of a puzzle! Have you ever heard this one, Luke?

Also, playable demos and trailers of SMG2, Other M and a lot other games being played RIGHT NOW by journalists and analysts. Embargo lifts 9 PM EST. Then the Internet will explode with Trailers and Hand-Ons of amazing games.

Apparently, Galaxy 2 has parts where it morphs into a freaking 2D platformer.

Now, if the plot isn't as dull as Shiggy wants it to be, this game will be definitely one of the best Wii games of the year. Maybe not just Wii.

Also, great to know the orchestral music is back. It wouldn't be SMG without the orchestral music.

Actually, it's 9 PM PST, which would be midnight EST. The embargo is to make sure no one breaks the trailers before Nintendo can, though gametrailers apparently decided to do so already, anyway.

That was featured briefly in the E3 09 trailer, too. There's a section where Mario has to use the Bee suit on a 2D plane, and the camera switches as he reaches a corner to continue that perspective.

Anyway, the game does look impressive just from the new trailer and screens. The bit with the giant worm/dragon thing is awesome.

Gametrailers leaked the trailer from the summit, though now they're also leaking footage from the game, as can be seen here. Glad to see them using the athletic theme from Super Mario World for Yoshi.

Nintendo has a media summit every year in February. They use it to announce their life-to-date sales data and what to expect in the coming months leading to E3, though I believe this is the first time it's been quite so full of new releases.

Ironic they would mention that, as at the end of their own liveblog a Nintendo rep told them that the soundtrack for the final game will be orchestrated.

Nintendo told him that the orchestrated song that played in the trailer would be in the game. They never said that the entire game would be orchestrated.

UPDATE: All the different colored Yoshis are one and the same, it changes color when it eats different fruit. "Blimp Berries" and "Dash Peppers" are the names of two of these fruits.
Blimp Berries: Turn Yoshi blue and allow him to blimp up and float around
Dash Peppers: Turn Yoshi orange and give him a GIGANTIC speed boost

The entire soundtrack is orchestrated, they just haven't finished it yet.

CONFIRMED NAMES OF THE GALAXIES IN THE DEMO:
Sky Station Galaxy
Spin-Dig Galaxy
Hightail Falls Galaxy
Tall Trunk Galaxy
Upside Dizzy Galaxy
Bowser Jr's Fiery Flotilla
Supermassive Galaxy (aka Giant Land)

God damn it they go and make comments like that about the story and make me want to swear that I don't want to support it by getting this game and I'll only be annoyed like by the utter nonsense that was Mario Galaxy 1's "plot".

And then they show that trailer and instantly my brain clicks into "OOOH COLORS THAT LOOKS LIKE FUN" mode. And so of course I'll be getting it like everyone else.

But I will hate myself on the inside. :yogi:

I'm guessing this is the box art.

In the flip-swap galaxy, rather than the tiles flipping around at certain times, they apparently flip whenever you spin.

Image
Spoiler: Dragon's name and minor boss details
The dragon's name is Gobblegut and he is trying to destroy that planet.

The levels are apparently larger, with bigger planets.

Comet coins- there's one in every level, and they "unlock a special part of a level".
