Well the second case begins with:"It was this fateful day, two days ago." Apart from the fact, that this sentence is hilarious it also tells you, that case 2 is playing in the past and case 3 takes place immediately after case 2.

I got that case 2 was taking place in the past, but that in no way automatically meant that case 3 was as well. I suppose I was meant to infer that since case 2 took place two days ago, then the case immediately following (that being case 3) took place the next day. Sure wish they'd been more clear about it, but maybe I'm the only one who had a problem with it...
