That's right; the "sequel" to last year's hyped-up-to-be-game-of-the-year-that-ended-up-being-not-that-good DS title was just announced by Nintendo Power. Enter Super Scribblenauts!

According to this and this GoNintendo articles, Super Scribblenauts (DS only, developed by 5TH Cell, of course) will feature 10,000 brand new words, 120 brand new levels ("deeper in content"), a better level editor, better physics, a better camera (doesn't move back into Maxwell automatically after some seconds), a new "Hint" system, the removal of Par in levels, more merits, and what we all wanted in Scribblenauts: D-Pad controls for Maxwell (there's also something about "better stylus control") and adjectives, which will play an important role in this sequel. So much, that the aforementioned 10,000 new words are adjectives! That, and there are some new words added, too.
The article also denotes that this more-promising-than-the-first sequel is coming this Fall, just like Scribblenauts.

Official press release here. (According to this one, the first game reached 1.1 million units sold, which is a great number! No wonder they're releasing a sequel.)

Hype / discuss below.

Wouldn't removing the par make the levels less challenging?

I thought that too, but since they said they would revamp all levels, I thought they would come up with a solution. Like imposing other conditions for the level to be completed.
I just hope that they don't take the "creativity is what matters" approach too seriously...

Oh, so now they're actually going to take the time to finish Scribblenauts, a game that was quite obviously rushed for release and was lacking in interactions between items.
This game would be amazing if they took the time to create a lot of interactions between items. Which they probably won't as it would take years to do that.

...crap.
Say, that reminds me of a puzzle! Have you ever heard this one, Luke?

My brain read this as "Psychonauts 2" for a second and (in a brief period of insanity) I was actually excited.

Then I realized what it really said.

The only problem I had with the first Scribblenauts is the lack of a story. If they were to somehow explain why Maxwell gets to make things magically appear at will by writing them down and maybe put in some sort of plot, even a weak one, the games would be much, much better.

I actually agree with you. I wanted there to be a semi-plot. I mean, just like the games are, but following a story.

Still, I'm looking forward to this one. Maybe some day there'll be some sort of "Max and the Magic Marker""Scribblenauts Chronicles" with actual story... Yeah, as if.

Aaaah, that's awesome! Scribblenauts was fun.
I'd like a story in this game as well.

Me too!

WHAT'S WITH ALL THESE PEOPLE HAVING PLAYED PSYCHONAUTS IT'S MEANT TO BE OBSCURE GUYS

OT, Scribblenauts was pretty cute but like many others here I probably won't get number 2 unless there's some kinda story. I mean, all I can think of that's potentially in here is more puzzles and more things in the dictionary, so it probably won't contribute much.

Personally, if it's controllable (d-pad yuss) and levels are good enough, I'm playing it. Plus, 10.000 adjectives, guys. You can only appreciate the greatness of that number in words: Ten thousand adjectives.

My friends say scribblenauts was better than Professor Layton. NO.

H-how can you befriend somebody who can think that!?

Just... just kick him really hard in the nuts and spit in his face. Do that every single time you see him, yelling "This one's for Layton" with the kick and "This one's for Luke" with the spit.

Actually, the kicking alone is alright.

YES! POSSIBILITIES!
"item"
"working item"
Y'know, maybe things in Scribblenauts 2 will actually work if you wrote "working" before them!!!

I've never played Layton and thus cannot say whether or not is is better than Scribblenauts.

All I know is that Scribblenauts was fun enough and that I'm so getting this sequel as soon as possible!

And the first thing I'm typing is "Dead Vegan"

"Starite" = Toy Starite (except in level editor)
"Actual Starite" = Easiest game ever?

And Yaragorm... Believe me, it's not. There's no comparison between Layton and Scribblenauts, just that they came out the same day in Europe. That's it. They are absolutely different games. They are in absolutely different levels. It's like comparing Cooking Mama to Ace Attorney.

Trust me, I almost did. and he's a she.
All my other friends were like 'OMG U FAIL! LAYTON IZ WAYYYY BETTER' and i agreed and said it too, of course. She takes it back now. DAMN RIGHT SHE SHOULD.

anyway, adjectives? wow. that's weird.
so I guess you could put 'Friendly' grim reaper to get one that is happy and works for you?
thats made this game 100X easier already, even though I used the cupid bow alot to get what i wanted

I liked Scribblenauts, I thought it was a fun little timewaster, but it did leave a lot to be desired.

Still, I'm looking forward to this.

I didn't like the controls in scribblenauts. And like Alpha, it left much to be desired. Plus in the end it wasn't really that great. More like a novelty.

After some not so great experiences with their DS games, I've resolved never to buy a 5th Cell game again. For at least 3 years. They've got a few things to learn. Their ideas are innovative, but they tend to be a bit too difficult to fully pull off. Although it seems that they are slowly getting better with every game they release.

Oh my God, yes.

Also,
- Camera no longer snaps back
- Improved item weight
- Attach ropes to any part of an object
- Post-level merits
- Cleaned up level editor
- 120 levels

O_O Really want this now.

Personally, I like the fact that there's no real storyline, I can pick it up and replay whenever, without having to recall a bunch of stuff about the characters and plot. Since I got Scribblenauts, it kinda replaced Tetris for me, something I can play real quick to pass time, but it's a lot more interesting.

I'm glad they'll be fixing the controls. God, they were so damn SLIPPERY. It reminded me of those old school educational computer games I used to play as a kid.
It's a great basis for a game, and I must admit, finding some of the internet memes (Rickroll, longcat, all your base are belong to us) and the really crazy items (teleporter was my favorite) was fun for a while, but I really haven't touched it since a week after I bought it.
I think the second one will only be worth it if you haven't played the first one, and I'm not really sure if that'll be worth it at all.
Can you handle us? So cool, baby, scandalous.

Now called Super Scribblenauts, confirmed for a Fall release.

http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=123856

With this title and with the lack of significant feature updates, at least in my opinion, this "sequel" sounds more like an expansion cartridge. But that doesn't mean I'm not going to play it!

Anyone got it yet? I'm interested to see if all the improvements they promised are actually there and if it's worth getting.

I bought a copy today after school. I haven't had much time to play it yet but I can say that right away there are a few improvements that stand out. It is a lot less annoying now that you can use the D-Pad to move. Also, I can only imagine how many more creative choices there are, since adjectives have also been introduced! :redd: Overall- much, MUCH better than the first. Go buy it!
