I've been spriting for... years and years, but there are plenty of things that I'm bad at. To improve in these areas,
I've decided to start working with Phoenix Wright sprites. I hope to improve my anti-aliasing, efficient use of color palettes, and texture design (especially hair and cloth).

Lenard Daniels, Leroy Daniels, and Russell Weike, members of the Eagles basketball team for Tap's game Justice's Memoirs. Since Weike is such a minor character, I've decided to post several of his animations.

Very nice. It's clean and well done. I can't see anything to crit :)

I'm looking forward to your next sprites.

Like they say.
To me it doesn't look that young at all,
but then again, the child Larry in 1-4 was allmost too adult like too.
So no complains here, then.

New one in the group, eh?
After seeing that one it would be fun to see more works.

Two others I'm playing with... Mainly just for spriting practice.

Image

A lot of PW1 sprites don't look fantastic, so their bodies need some touching up... but I'm more concerned with the hair. On the left we obviously have palette swapped Franziska, and the one on the right probably needs bigger hair to compensate for the small head. I've always been terrible with hair, so I'm considering baldcapping them both and drawing it from scratch, for practice. Unfortunately... I'm also terrible at coming up with hairstyles.

edit: Larry's static sprite was getting on my nerves, so I gave him a talking animation.

This is still far from being finished, but I was wondering if you guys
could tell me how old you think the younger Maggey looks?

The lack of a tie is kind of odd, but the hair is perfect. That's definitely what her hair looked like as a kid. And it got paste in it and got caught in things.

Yes.

Hello there. :3 Your sprites are very good; Larry looks awesome, I'd say he looks about 14-15.

Chesu wrote:

Personally, I wouldn't change hair on this one. It looks perfectly fine as is. :butzthumbs: I'd rather work on the other one - the eyes look slightly too dark in comparison to the rest of the sprite, and the mouth is a bit too far to the right to look natural.

Like I said, it's not finished yet. I haven't done any shading on the blazer, or touched up the outlines. I actually haven't decided whether she'll wear a necktie, a bow or something else... This is a school uniform, mind you.

Hrm, you're right about the eyes, I'll fix that if I ever touch the sprite again. The mouth is supposed to be that far to the side though, she's smirking. :odoroki:

Whoa, really good sprites. I liked the Larry and the use of Franziska's hair. About the young maggey, it's weird the detail of the tie, but still it's really good... awesome hair BTW. She looks like 11 or something like that...
Thanks. It was, is and always will be a pleasure.

Fine, fine, here's a version with the necktie (and my recent revisions).

...I'm surprised everyone likes the hair though, it's just her normal hair lowered and flood-filled. I haven't even started shading or detailing it yet... :yuusaku:

What, as a kid? I guess I could, but I'm spriting Larry and Maggey as they would appear in 2008...
If I ever do Gumshoe, it'll probably be as a twenty-two-year-old officer.

edit: Maggey's done! Well, for now, anyway. I wasn't sure which piece of neckwear I wanted, or if she should have a hair ribbon, but I eventually decided to go double-bow, as seen in the animation.

I like the one with the bow better :) it seems more fitting for a young girl's school uniform. If you decide to go with the tie, I'd suggest you work a little more on it. It looks fairly uneven, try to make it slightly wider and rounder in shape.

EDIT: You ninja'ed me xD Still, good decision ;3 Double bow fits her nicely.

I'm not sure the necktie was ever really an option... They're a lot more common than bows in Japanese school uniforms, but so many characters in this series wear them that with a blazer, she looks like a small lawyer. I could have left her with just the jacket and shirt, but that wouldn't have been very visually interesting. That's why I removed the tie in the first image of her I posted, but didn't draw the buttons or anything else on.

....

Oy. I still haven't added them, her shirt is plain white below the bow. I knew there would be small details that I forgot. :maggey-sad:

Sad Young Maggey is done!

Image

I added the buttons to her shirt, and fixed a minor color issue with the bow.
I guess I'll apply these changes to the normal pose, then animate the sad one.

edit: How does everyone feel about Emote Bow? The mouth on Moe's hat did something similar.

Thanks! This is my commission for Auraion, in the form of a compressed sprite sheet. It doesn't show
how the sprite is supposed to be animated, but is more secure from theft, and takes up less space.

I'm prone to making mistakes while spriting, so I always make a copy of the last major revision to my sprite.
Thanks to this, by the time I'm done I have a long line showing the progress of the sprite... and can do this!

These are really great. Do you use paint to make them? 'Cause they're real good. And how did you give Maggey the long hair? I know you used the bottom of her short hair and moved it down, but how?

I wonder what a young Diego would look like?....

Yes, I use MS Paint. For Maggey's hair... Yeah, that's pretty much all I did.I moved the ends of her hair down, drew in connecting outlines, then flood filled the base color in that area. While finishing up, I gave it a bit more shading... which doesn't look too great., since I'm bad at that kind of thing.

Well I'm not going to pretend that the hair is good, just because the flaws are only clear up close. It's only the second PW-style sprite I've ever made... and learning to sprite hair is one of the reasons I'm doing this to begin with. :yogi:
