Finally! A case maker that is easy to use, powerful, exists, and is open source! :udgy: Phoenix Wright: Customizable Attorney (PWCA for short) is the best case maker around, and has many features that even version 2.1 of MechaBowser's case doesn't have! You can get it here:

http://www.freewebs.com/softwarethings/PWCA.zip (4.3 MB)

Be sure to check out the demo case and the help file. Have fun! :gant:
Here is a feature comparison list between MechaBowser's Case Maker (version 2.1) and this one:

Key:
X - It has that feature
~ - Can be emulated with other features

You = God

Now that I've seen it, heres a few coments:

1) Still early in development, I see. No matter.

2) I don't completely agree with your rating system there :P

3) There is alot of room for improvement for the screen shaking.

4) Do find out how to make the choice boxes a little closer to the real game. Have you seen all the rips and animation sequences I posted?

5) Would be better to have the textbox-sayer function. Being able to disable if the character on-screen is saying the lines. It appears this is missing from your (lovely, by the way) test case.

6) Seperate the character animation from the text. The animations loop using two predefined animations: still (and usually blinking, or doing stuff), and talking (along with the occational blink). These animations does not depend on the scrolling speed of the text. Would be best to keep them seperated? Just have the image load - and it should be easily possible to have a gif animation for each frame. Quite simple.

7) I do like your case-setup system in a simple textbox. I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes.

8) You might run into trouble with investigation - where you need to click on an object on the screen.

9) As I said, if you need some graphical resources, feel free to ask. I'm sure everything should be arround somewhere.

10) The mouse dissapears when you click something.

11) Court Record -sorting, removing, adding evidence, profiles, etc.

12) It should be easy enough to add animating .gifs to imitate certain features in the game, if I look at this right.

13) I think compilable .exes with preloaded stuff (right now it seems a bit wacky during animations) is something that needs to be focused on early :)

14) I really like this so far. Has possibilities. Kudos for beeing opensource.

15) Like how you handle sounds.

16) The starting screensize compresses the image slightly.

Hmm...... I'll have to look into this. Sounds interesting. I wonder how easy the interface is.
Although it seems kind of odd something like this just comes out of the blue.

Feedback:
Well, it doesn't feel like te real Phoenix Wright Games. When I tried this demo I found some things.
- The shaking is all wrong.
- The Testimony/cross-examination is all wrong. Wrong layout, etc.
- Why does it always display the court witness stand? and not scroll to Phoenix, or to the Judge? The programmer got lazy with this part.
- Still no profile section (was lacking in MechaBowsers 2.1 too.)
- The arrow button on the bottom screen has no moving animation.
- Last note.... HOW AM I SUPPOSE TO CUSTOMIZE SOMETHING I CAN NOT CUSTOMMIZE? WHERE IS THE CASE MAKER INTERFACE?
Wait........ Does this thing have no interface, but only customizeable text files? Me thinks some programming knowledge is required for this. Unlike Mecha's case maker where its simple to program a case. :sal:

I think I'll pass on this one. I'll wait and see if/what Mecha (or Shaun) can some up with anything better than this. :phoenix:

For you 'newbies' that want to say "ZOMG, The link doesn't work for some reason, pz help, kthxbye, lol."

Another case maker! I guess I really should get a new section up :B *puts it on list*

By the way, Mikker! I know you made a zip a while back of a bunch of animated game graphics. By chance do you remember what you labeled it? I'm sure I saved it, but now I can't figure out where it is XD;;

Am I the ONLY person this runs god-awful slow for? Otherwise this seems to be like Mecha's 1.3 maker.

Yeah..I tried it..It REALLY needs some work...

Get ALL the real sound from final-turnabout.com

get real sprites and such..

fix the talking, movements..and such..

Not to be harsh but you should work on this a little bit more before coming out with another version.

Yeah, I know. At the moment, it needs a lot of work. Unfortunately, I noticed some very annoying glitches in the program, like it running at a really low frame rate, the text takes forever to display, and the shaking lasts foreevvverrrr.... Don't worry, it's not that your computer is extremely slow, it's my fault really. :sadshoe: For the low frame rate, open up verge.cfg and put a # in front of "gamerate 100" so it says "#gamerate 100". As for the text and shaking, here's my explanation for why it goes so slow on some people's computers. You see, most of the program is driven by loops with variables incrementing by 1. The problem is, loops move at different speeds on different computers! On my really fast computer, the shaking only lasts for about 1/2 of a second, and it looks fine. But when I tried it on a slower computer, the shaking lasted for about 4 seconds! :ack: Don't worry, I'm trying to fix this problem, but don't expect any updates for the animation and etc. etc. until I fix this problem.

Also, the program I'm using to make PWCA does not have support for GIF files! (You can't expect evryone to use MMF, can you? :nick: ) It's called VERGE, and it was designed to make RPGs, but it's so darn cool and flexible I wanted to use it for this! Go here for more info: http://www.verge-rpg.com . As for animation... yes I know animation is limited in this version to say the least (Only having two frames for talking is no fun! :edgeworth: ), but right now, until I fix the glitches in the first paragraph nothings gonna happen about it. Besides, have any of you even tried making a case with PWscript? Come on, try it! It's much easier and faster then MechaBowser's case maker, even though it lacks a visual editor! :phoenix:

Lastly, I don't want to release one version and then have one big "god" release that's supposed to come out in like three years or something like MechaBowser's. It ticks people off when you take longer to code it then you said earlier, and it means much more work for you. Besides, it is open source, so if I just leave the forum for some mysterious reason or start acting like a jerk, the project will not be dead. Also, I can torture people with feature suggestion lists by saying "If you think that feature so easy to put in, then why don't you put it in!" :karma:

That fixed nothing at all I am afraid, my machine is powerful enough to run Command and Conquer 3 (Windows XP, Vista sucks ass. we all know it) so its not the strength of my machine thats the issue here. I did try this suggestion and like I said, nothing different.

I'm sorry, but I tried the program a bit and was trying to fiddle around with it, but it was just driving me NUTS!!!
I like the look, but i'm going to pass on it myself.
It does look very good for using Verge though (I know how annoying Verge can be sometimes).

DDRKhat: The framerate was still bad? Make sure you DID NOT maximize the window or resize. A lot of people have this annoying tendency to want to make everything full screen. :butz: If you have a 2 Ghz processor, the text and shaking should move at the right speed. (2 Ghz is the speed of my computer)

The Big Yoshi: You tried PWscript? What do you think could be improved?

Come ON!! That's the LEAST of my priorities! Get a grip! Also, I want to make a visual editor, but PWscript is so simple anyone could easily make one in Visual Basic 6.... or even Visual Basic 1 for DOS!!

Don't expect an update to the program for a while, I've just discovered ROM hacking GS3 with Comeback Courtroom! Although, at least you'll feel better knowing that I'm doing something PW related. Also, don't expect a character setup like MechaBowser's. It's too complicated, and besides, the PW games don't even use a character system! :phoenix:

I am not like most, if a game runs itself in window, I leave it in window, screw fullscreen, I'm a windowed guy as I have other things running in the background which I need to keep up-to-date with, only time I go full-screen is when I'm playing a rpg with friends such as Shadowflare

The key word is tried. I often have a patience (I can't even concentrate 100% on how to spell) that leaves something to be desired. I couldn't help you at all. Sorry. Maybe i'll try it out again sometme soon and see if I can help a bit.

I think your PRIORITY for fixing this up a bit should be the graphics though. Just my thoughts. You fix that up a bit, and it will knock up the quality of this quite a few notches.

AH!!! Before I forget, I have one more thing. I was trying out some .gif's in the game and it seemed to work pretty good actually (although, that may be something different).
Nevermind that.

I'm asuming that you don't mind if I peek around in the source code of your Case Maker for help in mine. Animation helpers are a bit of a pain :p

Of course I don't mind! :edgy:

The "animation" code is inside the textbox function, but it's not that good. It only supports two frames, one for the closed mouth and one for the opened mouth. Not even any blinking! :payne:

The gui and script code is pretty good though.

and, a rating system out of 15? Most people use 5 or 10.

If someone could fix the animation, add profiles, and add a courtroom scroll, we might be in business.
