...is a graphical text horror-adventure by Chunsoft, localized by Aksys and one of the very few DS titles with a "M" rating.

More info:

Quote:
'9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors' has players waking up on a ship with eight other kidnapped passengers forced by a mysterious man to play the "Nonary Game". They have nine hours to free themselves and uncover the mystery or they all die.

Nine Hours - You only have 9 hours before Junpei and the other 8 kidnapped drown. Numerology, music composition and logic puzzles are just a few of the 32 + obstacles that stand in the way of their freedom. You must use everything in your environment and personal experience to get out!

Nine Persons - Uncover the mystery surrounding the lives of the 9 captive characters and how their blurry pasts reveal a disturbing future. Help all the characters escape but beware! A wrong decision or careless mistake might put their lives in jeopardy. Experience all 6 + endings that are determined by the way you play!

Nine Doors - Each hostage is cursed with a digital watch that displays their special number. These numbers are the keys to unlocking the 9 doors. Explore your surrounding for clues to unlock the next door by picking up and examining objects in the different environments. Create new tools by combining like objects to get out of dangerous situations and deadly door puzzles.

In summary, it's pretty much like Heavy Rain + Saw + Hotel Dusk mechanics.
Release date is 16th November 2010. It's out, buy it!

For more infos, check out the website and/or try out the demo.

-------------------------------------------------

That game looks very promising! It reminds me of all those "room escape games" which you can find on several flash-online game websites. I really hope solving all these puzzles won't be too hard....
Anyway, looking forward to it! What about you guys?

Looks interesting... It could be good, but it could also be really horrible and cliche >_> (Rabbit Doubt, anyone?)

The game has got my attention, however, traditionally I've not had the stomach for horror games. Even FPS don't sit well with me. So I'll be waiting on reviews from you guys.

I tried part of the demo, and it also reminds me of the 'room escape games'. Unfortunately, I got stuck on the demo. :bellboy: But it does look pretty cool.

As soon as I see the name "Junpei" I immediately think of Persona 3.

Game sounds like an interesting concept.
Let us dye the world in despair, and bring a dismal end to this fairy tale.

Dragged my toes and bothered to play the Demo.

I like it. I'm a bit cautious, but I like it. Although, Junpei's girlfriend needs her head examined.

Spoiler:
I mean, they're examining a bed, while trapped in a room, that's rapidly filling with water, they don't know why they're there, and she wants to get into Jumpi's pants?

Lemme say that I don't think I'll have much to leave to the imagination when it's time to lower the life boats and she's no where to be found.

Considering [Zero]'s the likely kidnapper in my hypothetical situation...

... Ow ow ow, my brain is hemorrhaging. Gimme some brain bleach STAT!

Other then that, I like the puzzles. A little Professor Layton mixed with Hotel Dusk. I think this will be the strong point of the game.

The graphics are a bit of AA mixed with some typical PC grade Adventure games. Not original, but not bad at all.

Tutorials are... quite wordy. Probably won't mind them in the actual game, but it's a hassle in the flash version.

The game has my attention, may just pick it up. For Christmas if nothing else.

Ok so i tried the demo, it was ok nothing special stood out for me except the almost quirky animation. There was lots of boring searching and the fact that it is hard to tell where you should check really annoyed me. Seriously the only reason i passed the demo was because i searched absolutely everything and that was the only challenge. The demo makes the game seem like the emphasis is on searching not working puzzles. Even if the emphasis is also on the story i don't feel the demo expressed this. The unlocking of the suitcases seemed like childsplay :larry: in my honest opinion and this is a M rated game... even professor laytons early puzzles required more thinking. I feel because of the M rating they should try and make the puzzles slightly challenging for the people in that age group. However i am being harsh considering that this is only a demo but hey, demos are meant to entice not dissapoint.

Don't forget, the demo is of the first 10 minutes or so of the game. It's not supposed to be difficult. They gotta save the brain benders for later.

true but that is why i compared it to the first puzzles in the Professor Layton series... on second it may in fact require more thinking than the Layton series but you already work out the answer before you get the puzzle (well at least in my case)

did that make sense?

It made sense, yes. However, don't you think it's a bit unfair to judge the whole game based on solving only the first puzzle? :/

Oh and it would've been kind of stupid if they made the first puzzle too hard as well. They start off with an easier one in order to get the player slowly into the game's story and mechanics. It's supposed to be a little tutorial and tutorial levels are never too difficult to finish.

By the way, if you want to solve overcomplicated difficult puzzles, I recommend you to play a few Japanese room-escape games. These are usually horribly hard to figure out and include no tutorial (but engrish!). The Submachine series is quite "puzzling" as well.... okay that was a horrible pun.

Yes i won't judge the whole game based on the first puzzle, it is unfair to the game... just a little.

I'm not saying i won't buy this game. I'll keep an eye on it and check the reviews, i believe it has the potential to be very successful unless it rips off ideas from saw and hotel dusk.

Thanks for the reccomendation i will read some reviews and see if i can get my hands on a copy :jake:

Also, the beginning of the real game might be more difficult/involved than the demo. (The Gyakuten Kenji demo did have some parts from the full game taken out, so why can't this demo also have that?)

Okay, so today is the US release date.

Anyone know if GameStop will have it in stock today, of if the street date is tomorrow?

Okay, I checked with my local GameStop, they don't expect to have it in stock until Friday, or maybe tomorrow. Considering I'm not going that way again until Monday or so, it looks like I'll be late in joining the party.

Destructoid gave it a freaking 10! :beef:

And this from a guy who supposedly hated games suffering from "story bloat."

Based on his review alone, my interest just skyrocketed!

Whoa, same with me! I thought it would be a mediocre escape/visual novel tbh, but if it's getting 9's and 10's... wow...

(Also, a bit off-topic, but I looked around Destructoid a bit, and lmao at the Flower, Sun, and Rain review. I love how he gave it 3/10, but went into a giant analysis of FSR as art xD)

Also curious, the d-roid review mentioned that there were never any time limits despite the game being a big room escape game. That was one of my apprehensions with the game.

On the other hand, he offered no hints on what gave the game the M rating.

Also, Flower Sun and Rain, I think deserved a low review like that, for the dialog sound effects alone. That was just ear splitting. I cannot imagine how the devs let that through.

...and what about that part of the review?

Quote:
For example, twice do the captives discover a corpse that had been blown apart by a stomach bomb. The narration goes into great detail describing the carnage, right down to the colors and consistencies of the various bodily fluids running down the walls. The still images never show the bodies directly, but these descriptions were enough to make me feel queasy and uncomfortable. And I'm not the kind of person who is bothered by special effects gore in film!

Sorry BP, wish I could help out (since I've wanted this for a long time), but every freaking store around here has not stocked it yet. The guy at my local EB keeps sending me in circles too - he said last week that it would be in Monday or Tuesday, and today he said it would be in Wednesday or Thursday.

Well, this game has been discussed quite a bit since these forums went down and came back up. If you want to check it out, go here.

Also, I don't know if this was already posted, but there is a highly informative fan Q&A with the developer (under "answers") at the game's Aksys website. (MEGA SPOILERS!)

On that note, the possibility of a sequel is very definite. The developer mentions that he might introduce new characters and mix in some old characters. So, then, which characters would you like to see return?

I get the feeling Junpei probably wouldn't be the protagonist again, so if I could bring back some characters, Snake, Seven, and Lotus would definitely be my top 3. What about you?

Yeah, the true ending does set up the game for a sequel, maybe something to do with All-Ice?

And for returning characters, maybe Seven, and Clover... Seven does need a little more backstory, I guess. I mean, we didn't get to learn his name. D:>

This is a bit slim, but I would kind of like to see Ace make a return in the sequel, even though that might not be possible.
