Yeah, whatever.

I hope we get PL4 next year. And it better get rid of some recurring themes in the series.

I just PL3!

It seems quite nice, even if I did fail on two puzzles already.

Finished the main story last night, just got the very last two puzzles (#167 and #168) left to do... I hate those sliding block things! But everyone has their speciality, don't they? I probably found some of the puzzles piss easy compared to some of you, and had to think more on others. Full picarats to boot, just like the previous two games mind you heh...

The start of the chapter 13... WTF?! :P

As for the ending, I'm not afraid to admit that I almost cried. Twice. Now that's how you round out a narrative story line. Odd thing is, the general plot of the game (about lost love, time travel and redemption) echoes very similar to a short story I wrote a couple of years ago... even more spooky given the main protagonist in UF has the same surname as me...

I've thought of something about Layton 3.

Spoiler: Endgame spoilers
Wouldn't it have been better if Clive took Luke as hostage in stead of Flora? I mean, Flora was kidnapped in Diabolical Box and it felt so repetitive... I want to see her in action.

PL3 Thoughts so Far:
Spoiler:
I'm up to the part in Scotland Yard.
I must admit that I'm having trouble getting into the story, maybe because I'm so obsessed with getting the max amount of picarats this time 'round to prevent what happened with PL2. :payne:
But yeah the story seems to be quite interesting I guess.
One thing I LOVE about PL3 is the graphics/sprites. They've obviously been given a HUUUUGE step up over the previous games. Also the voice acting is brilliant.

So yeah.

This. There are some I just glance at and I have the answer, whereas there are some that take me forever and yet have very simple answers. :edgeworth:

Oh, and for those who are interested I named my parrot Takara, after the Japanese word for treasure. I think it's quite fitting.

I mean, wouldn't it be epic if Anton actually was a vampire? At least it would have made more sense than hallucination gas. Besides, vampires are not necessarily "magical" creatures. And time travel is technically not "magical" either.

Personally, I preferred 2D sprites....During puzzles I'm fine with 3D, but during conversations, no.

If that actually happened, that would be the best ever. Besides..

THEY made a town UNDERGROUND. Honestly, that was hard to believe. I'm sure time travel or having a vampire isn't more hectic.

Th-
This is exactly why I said "wow".

Though the 3D examining does look awesome. And the animated cutscenes look better done than ever.

But the models... Well, they do seem to be well animated, but... they're just... not Layton. Part of the series' charm is its beautiful art style, which includes excellent character design. How can they translate all this to 3D models? As far as we've seen, they haven't managed to do so.

And regarding plot twists, I was OK with all of them. The Layton series don't need to be realistic. They've had those twists from the very first game, so it's part of its essence.

Spoiler: Pretty much every Layton game
Though Diabolical Box's hallucinogenicmagical gas was just too much. I could bear an entire town made of robots and an underground city (specially the latter, since it was part of an evil mastermind's scheme, I guess). But an entire town that was generated in people's minds by some gas... was too much.

Specter's Flute is set in a new village, I heard, so... there's still room for this kind of twists. And apparently the same will happen with Mask of Miracles.

BTW, today I just wanted to debate localized titles. What do you think Specter's Flute and Mask of Miracles will actually be called? The only clues to go by so far are that all titles follow the format "Professor Layton and the (adjective) (noun)". Following this, PL4 could be "Professor Layton and the Phantom Flute", and PL5, "Professor Layton and the Miraculous Mask" / "and the Miracle Mask". Keep in mind that localized titles weren't literally localized ("The Strange Town" became "The Curious Village", "The Devil's Box" became "The Diabolical Box", and "The Last Time Travel" became "The Unwound Future").

PL2 was also "Professor Layton and Pandora's Box" in Europe. Just sayin'.

Spoiler: Also...
I'm not complaining about how the games should be more realistic, I just find the "everything makes sense because TECHNOLOGY" tradition is getting old. Okay, I can understand why magic would be wrong since this is a series about logic, and magic literary appears out of nowhere, but... C'mon, what's wrong with supernatural stuff? Time travel, ghosts... It worked in AA.

The 3DS trailer looks impressive... I still have my phat DS from the original US launch back in 2004, so would be nice to consider finally "upgrading". I just hope that normal DS games aren't region locked on it.

Professor Layton and Majora's Mask Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle (no S)
Say, that reminds me of a puzzle! Have you ever heard this one, Luke?

There's not too much in it that isn't in the 3DS general trailer, but still nice.

Ooh, very nice! The animation is beautiful as always , even though the 3D sprites look a bit... bleugh. I wonder how the more stylized characters will transform into 3D?

And that clown is reappearing in my nightmares, I'm sure of it.

I cannot wait to play it....... in 2012.

The 3D however looks quite nice and reminds me of Ni no Kuni's conversion from DS to PS3 with puzzles not being the regular "Do something and put in a number".

I can't wait however for Level-5's conference where they'll show a full trailer.

Anywho, back on topic, the new puzzle layout for the 3DS looks ve~ery pretty. Although if they have the image on the top non-touch screen, I can't really see how it'd work with less 'practical' puzzles like logic or slot puzzles. Or maybe they're changing the style of puzzles altogether.

Oh, and I have an idea for a future PL trilogy that I think is pretty cool.

Spoiler: Spoilers for pretty much every game
- I'd say Layton has gotten all the backstory and character development a gentleman needs, so I'd like a new main character. Possibly older!Luke (not Clive of course) from... 15 years in the future?
- In my head-canon, the PL games take place in an an alternate 1940s where technology has developed in a different way so if this is 15 years after that, then maybe it could be somewhat film noir-like.
- The first trilogy had Don Paolo and the second has Jean DeScole, but what about the villain of the third trilogy? I'd say Bill Hawks is a good candidate. The man is disgusting, and would make a good "corrupt politician" kind of baddie. Besides, he wasn't caught at the end of PL3...
- ...which brings us to another character that should reappear: Chelmey. He seemed to hate Hawks. 15 years later, he's climbed higher up in the police office ladder and he's secretly trying to take down Hawks. Maybe he could fill a similar role as Badd in AAI or Frank Raver in Last Window.
- Other characters that I'd like to see: Flora, Luke's parents from PL4, Layton with a monocle, Barton, Remi, possibly a few other characters from the prequel trilogy depending on how it ends.

What do you think? :3
