Nice to see Phoenix in MvC3.

I'm just having some issues with Capcom recently. I really think this should have been a DLC instead of a new game.
I don't like the fact that there will be a 3rd version of SF4 out there.
Who knows how many MvC3 versions are to follow. So not sure if I will buy it (it has Phoenix though).

Oh and hello all. I have been a lurker on these forums for quite a while and finally registered now. :will:

I'll trade in my old copy of MVC3 for the new one and probably will leave it at that.
If they release other versions screw em.

Though does anyone know if the DLC characters will be included in UMVC3? Blazblue Continuum shift II added the DLC characters in and it is essentially just a revamp like UMVC3 is so kinda hoping the DLC ones will be in this.

More raeg that I didn't get out before shall now be vented.

The haters are really pissing me off. Some of them are just so damn stubborn...! It's unbelievable.

Examples: "Pheonix Write cant fight!" - To which I reply that Capcom wouldn't put in a character that would be useless, so his argument is incorrect.

He then retorts "Yeah whats he gonna do sue em or hit em with a book?"

Just pisses me off when someone is so stubborn like that. But what really annoys me is when they criticise Phoenix, but clearly have no knowledge of his source material, like the above quote.

My philosophy is that if you know nothing about someone/something, you have no right to take the piss or make fun of them/it.

Edit: What's even worse is that some of them are just complete hypocrites. Does it escape their minds that She-Hulk is a Lawyer? Apparently so. :nick:

End rant. :maggy:

It's extremely ridiculous with how they act. Nothing but a bunch of self-entitled whiny brats that bitch and bitch about how their favorite characters didn't get in solely because of Phoenix. Some even claim that he stole Venom and Gambit's slot which is just ludicrous since that would just leave Capcom down one character :eh?:

The same thing goes for Rocket Raccoon, he's a character that no one expected to be in a fighting game so they whine some more, but when people start researching his source material and find out that he'll most likely play a lot like Cable they soon reverse their position and they're all for him.

I understand where most of them are coming from since the people that complain are the one's who haven't touched the series and they don't know what to expect from him, but the way they express their feelings about a character in a video game is beyond pathetic :yuusaku:

Aww man I'd have exploded with AWESOME if Gambit had been in it.
Though just don't talk to those people, c'mon AA doesn't exactly have a.....logical fanbase look at our shipping community, we learn to ignore the crazies in it just need to do the same with Megaman folks. Understandably harder I imagine if you are a fan of both and have to put up with the crazy irrational fans on another Megaman site.

Besides they aren't taking some things into consideration...
Let's take another Capcom character for example: Frank West.

He's covered wars y'know? That means before his game his combat experience was a vague knowledge of firearms...something which any American could really have if interested considering how Guns are legal over there.

Phoenix...has plenty of experience with firearms in study and as evidence knowing various things about them, it's not too difficult to use one either.

Frank is a regular civilian who turned into a fighting machine but essentially just a regular guy the character designers even wanted him to appear average.

So why is Phoenix any different from him?
People will say "Oh but Frank's covered wars piledrived zombies!" but when he did this he's still just a regular joe like Phoenix.

Tis how I sees it m'yup

@Bignick
They have an ending movie in MVC3, might renovate some things to give intro movies for the characters...at a push.

Confirmed via Lupinko (the guy who leaked Nick in the first place):

What's being revealed at the Tokyo Game Show:
Spoiler:
- New build. The top tourney players we have working with us are just digging deep for hours a day.

- 4 characters. Phoenix Wright, Rocket Raccoon, Vergil, Iron Fist.

- 2 new stages. Danger Room (with X-Men cameos) and Outer Space (Space Battle)

- Most of the game's new modes will be revealed, with a heavy emphasis on Spectator Mode and its specifics.

- The remaining modes, characters, changes to single player, and MvC3 bonus are being revealed at New York Comic-con

Phoenix Wright specifics:
Spoiler:
He said in the last thread, he plays a lot of keepaway with bumbling and running around.

Very reminiscent of Norimaro from Marvel Super Heroes.

Wright's the most comical character in the game. He's a keepaway character where his animations are him stumbling or fumbling around.

And since you asked, his level 3 is a counter hyper much like Deadpool's. If you touch him while he strikes his signature pose, the canned objection animation plays and you take damage and lose a bar of meter.

His attacks are stronger than you'd expect, though.

A meter burning hyper is awesome. It makes Phoenix a (Marvel) Phoenix killer.

This does not please me. Even though the last part does sound really cool, are they trying to make him look like a joke or something with his animations?

Well they are highlighting his....non-combatant nature. Wouldn't be surprised if some of his opening quotes are like "I-I'll sue you for assault!" or "I'm used to battles in the courtroom...not this"

I'm actually not pleased about a counter hyper...I find they aren't especially useful in a pinch

And thus Galactus agrees on a cash settlement with the denizens of both Capcom and Marvel's universe for the assault on Earth.

Maybe they're trying to keep him in-character? He is funny even his own game. Well, sometimes. That, and he is the least serious character among them after all, so he became an easy choice for comic relief.

It's kinda reassuring though knowing that his attacks are strong. If done right, he can be both awesome and funny at the same time. :gregory:

Anyway, I just heard this minutes ago from a friend,
Spoiler: Take this with a grain of salt
it seems that the trailer doesn't show him at all.

Not to happy about the stumbling, but I like the rest of what you said. But this should totally be added:
You know when She-Hulk comes on and she throws that car to the side? WELL when she's going up against Wright, she just throws the whole car at him, and it looks like Nick's a goner.
But he rises from the ashes of death, and says with his cocky grin, "Oh, I only got a bruise, I can manage. Now TAKE THAT!"

Fuck. A level 3 counter hyper? In my experience I've found that counters are only good against the big and slow characters with huge hitboxes for them to work. This news does not please me one bit.

I don't see how it's possible for his own trailer to not show him. Or did this friend of yours mean the actual game trailer for UMVC3?

Now I'm confused, as well as annoyed that they've probably f**ked Phoenix up. :sadshoe:

Mmmhmm though sometimes they are fun.

Once my friend did Tatsumaki Senpuk-whatever with Ryu into Wesker's counter, then swapped in for Akuma and got hit by the same move XD

Though yeah a Level 3 counter....it's fitting but not what I'd hope for.

Though professor Yoshi I think this 'friend' looked at the fake trailer that a certain member here decided to include in their introductory topic.

It's not the counter that bugs me it's the fact that it's a level 3 counter which limits his ability to safely DHC off the field. Ehh whatever, hopefully that doesn't make Phoenix terribly terrible like Arthur,Hshien-Ko and Haggar...

Hey, Haggar won EVO. Sure it was because of his Double Lariat assist, but it's something.

We still don't know what his other two hypers will be. I'm rooting for a step-ladder rush ala Bionic Arm, but that's just because I love Bionic Arm.

I also want to see a Psyche-Lock stun like Magneto's Hyper Grav but I could go on about wishlists all day. We'll see for sure on Sept. 15th. That's when TGS is, right?

I've got no idea what counter hyper is so can't comment on that.

Don't know why everyone's whining about him being a "bumbling" character though. He was pretty dorky throughout PW1-3, to the point of being a butt-monkey at times. Which made it all the more awesome when he did finally lay the smackdown on the murderers.

Comedy character doesn't automatically mean sissy character.

What do you mean by DHC?

I was kinda expecting some unusual spiritual double Mia-objection beam as one of his attacks. Though if his big finale is an objection counter then I don't think that'd be in it.

Though you're right Mashowasho I wouldn't say he's used to fighting, if he appears to be a little unused to combat it's nothing special and a Hyper counter is a counterattack that consumes parts of the hyper gauge, essentially a special attack that does nothing if you miss Taskmaster and Wesker have them as well.

DHC'ing is executing a hyper combo, then doing another one to bring your other character in for a safe transition onto the field. You also forgot that Deadpool has one too.

Ah yes that's pretty fun.
I used Wesker's counter to go into Deadpool's "Bangbangbangbang" one into Dante's twosome time but the max gauge is 5 so it's perfectly possible to DHC with Phoenix's ultimate counter, just takes a bit more doesn't it?

Lupinko's description doesn't fit with the art they made for him. If he were a very un-serious character like Lupinko says he is, then his art wouldn't feature him with a serious face doing a serious lawery-finger point.

Besides, you people seriously sound like Phoenix is going to be the worst character in the roster. Always remember this: in pretty much every single fighting game, you can kick ass with every character if you are willing to master it.

Even if he turns out to be a comic relief character, I'll be pleased. Not like I'll be able to play the game anytime soon...

Yeah one to use for fun XD
Though I think he'll be fine, it's not like he doesn't know how to throw a punch but yeah the artwork was pretty serious and strong though I don't know if thats a basis for a defence. No doubt it'll be the pose he strikes in at least one attack

I don't know the first thing about MvC(I stick to DBZ, Smash Bros, and the occasional Street Fighter), but from what it sounds like, the Objection is pretty much balls.
Now, if I were making his moveset, this is how it would be (NOTE: this is generic attack styles. No barrier burst, no fancy-schmancy level 3 hyper-reproductive-ultra-mega-glandular reflectoid attack)
Spoiler: So that no one has to look at my stupidity NOTE #2 all stats are based on an average damage
Physical Attacks: generic looking punch combo. Kicking is shorter in range, weaker, but faster and longer combo.

"Special" attacks (ie SSB/M/B equal to B attacks): base "special": Objection!, sideways "special": throws evidence, saying Take That!, downwards "special": Psyche-Lock push (Psyche-Lock, all enemies around are pushed away, stunned for a second) upwards "special": pulls a stepladder out of nowhere, climbing it, and throwing it away when he's done (much like Sonic's)

Smash Attacks: side- swings briefcase, up- an uppercut (duh), down- Hold It!, pushes opponents back more.

More of a Smash Bros moveset, but that's all I really know.
Oh, and he's much more resistant to damage, due to a special training: going to court against Franziska for every case for a year.

Basically the reason why a level 3 counter is so unwanted is because it's highly situational, it's meant to punish attacks with long animation frames and other hyper combos that are physical attacks. If you end up getting UMVC for 360 you should definitely play with me and my friend, we really need more people to play with :sawit:

Oh, ok.
And my parents are planning on buying one anyways, so I'll try

So bad news guys, in regards to Phoenix getting some awesome alts I don't think that will happen. Costumes for several characters have been posted and it looks a little disappointing because I remember the developers talking about adding alts that are actually geometrically different and not just color swaps, but it looks like that only applies to the pre-order costumes packs that they're offering. Of course this just means we'll see Hobo Phoenix as DLC but that's Capcom for ya.

Honestly, unless it's to save someone like Maya, Phoenix has always been a big scaredy cat. He's terrified of Furio Tigre and hides under the desk when he roars, Viola's demeanor gives him chills, and when Desiree is recalling how she met Ron and that she was frightened when taken hostage Nick thought to himself he'd break down into tears if he was in that situation. Wright has been frightened a lot of other times, too. Look how he clings to Edgeworth when She-Hulk breaks the desk in her ending. Why are some of you expecting him to have the personality of a karate master? He has every reason to be stumbling around in fear.

To be fair I think many people would cling to one another if She Hulk went smashing.

What surprised me is that Edgeworth was clinging to Phoenix, too. Hmm...maybe it was such a shock it caused an earthquake? :edgeworth:

Or something similar to it.
He's dived under the table for things similar to Earthquakes.

Considering other things I'm not really bothered by the lack of serious alternate costumes gotta remember...PHOENIX WRIGHT THE LAWYER IS GOING TO BE PUNCHING GALACTUS IN HIS BIG SMUG FACE DURING A MOUTHFUL OF PLANET EARTH. We should be counting our blessings can do without the costumes so long as this happens.
