Due to this change, some of the characters are going to have to be taken away - this case will focus more on canon characters, although some new characters will be in it.
I hope none of you takes this badly, and I want you to know that this will be my last major change.
Also, any help in the case would be appreciated. Now, I'm off to re-update the main page. Again.

The logo does look cool (I’ve noticed some stray pixels, but it can be easily fixed).

Don’t feel offended – it is nothing wrong. I am thinking of making my own AA-fangame and trust me, dozens of different versions of storyline are constantly rumbling over my head. But I don’t want to announce anything officially until I’m ready – until it’s polished.
Your game can turn to a brilliant project. The point is, don’t disheart yourself.
Don’t be surprised or offended, when your project is getting criticism.
Making a game is an enormous project that requires a lot of hard work and determination.
Most of fandom members are old stagers who’ve played every Ace Attorney game and they’re expecting a good mystery. Remember - being a fan game doesn't make a game enjoyable or fun, it makes it a fan game.
There are many reasons why your project could fail, but as far as fangames go the major one is lack of time and motivation. If you start something, but then realize you no longer have time to complete it, it becomes a burden, and since you're not getting paid to work, you must have an internal passion to enjoy what you do. We all are on your side.
Try to keep in mind the principal rule - fleshing out your original characters, giving it substance by creating someone who reflects a three dimensional person is a fundamental factor.
Not every character needs to be likable, but needs to be interesting. For example, Blackrune from Ace Attorney Online had created Peter Burg. Oh my God, I personally hate that guy (Burg, not Blackrune :D), cross-examining him is a pain in the (_!_). But I love him as a well-thought character with his own unique quirks and habits.
That particularly applies to the main prosecutor. Without a good main opponent for the protagonist, the whole game is a dump.
Secondly, I don’t really understand your aversion to using original music. Music is copyrighted, but the truth is that fan games, translations, and the like have always been in the gray area when it comes to copyright issues. Characters, graphics, backgrounds – they aren’t our property. Even the title “Ace Attorney” is a registered and copyrighted material (of course, you can always try to be legit and make a simple clone game, but it is not the point ;)).
Try to understand me - I have nothing against adding new music (like, for example, new cross-examination, pursuit or investigation theme) or remixes. You may compose it on your own or delegate that task to a qualified author. But please, don’t use MIDI-versions of the old ones. For cryin’ out loud, it ruins everything.
I am eager to help you with this project, could I sign in for a beta-testing?

That was one long post.
I'll try to answer some questions, uh, as well as I can.
1) I am not going to be using MIDIs, I am instead using remixes found on, for example, Newgrounds or OCRemix.
2) I changed so quickly because I was hoping just about nobody would really notice it, and it's better to do it sooner than later, yeah?
3) I haven't actually started scripting yet, but I'll be doing that soon. I just need to watch those four episodes of The X Files first.
I guess you can be a beta-tester when I'm finished with the first part, though, but it may take a while.

Still, I have worked a bit on the game - I've come up with a basic plot, and I've scripted about 5 "scenes". I've also got a defendant and a victim.

Just a headsup: What I'm doing now is trying to work out the story, so I won't be doing any actual scripting or spriting until that happens.
So far, I've managed to get a victim, a defendant, the basic plot, and I'm in the midst of the first trial, which will, incidentally, be a flashback-trial where you play as Phoenix.
This whole case will "reveal" more about Apollo's past, and why exactly Phoenix and Apollo met in the first case.
Also, if someone wants to help in character spriting, that'd be great help, aswell, because that's the only thing I need help with.

I'm trying as hard as I can with this, but I have several problems.
a) I don't want to spend all my time at the computer.
b) I have schoolwork to do, even if I'm just a ninth-grader.
What I can do is coming up with a plot, scripting and coding. What I can't do, however, is sprite adequately. I just can't do everything by myself. I'm not Cardiovore.
TL;DR: Unless I find someone who can sprite for the case, it will be put indefenitely on hold.

The writing should speak for itself. You should rely on your characters' actions and dialogue to develop their personalities, and only use the sprites as a sort of icing on the cake. If a writer needed to use visuals to develop his characters, then nobody would ever read books.
I say go for it. It's pretty clear that you want to make a fancase, so you shouldn't let something like spriting keep you from doing that.

Uhh... that's stupid at this point... It's like Ropfa said, if you want to make a fangame, don't let sprites drag you down. I still don't see what's wrong with using actual sprites... :/ It may feel wrong but it's a move for the better in your case.

I have to disagree. Personally, I don't like placeholders either, but the truth is that it is not the custom sprite what makes your character unique, the writing does.
For example, take a look on Gilligan Teeschlegelsteinhausenberdorf from
New Year's Turnabout on Ace Attorney Online [his name may sound stupid, but trust me, he is a cool character].
Despite using Kristoph Gavin's sprites, he became one of the most popular and well-recognized OCs in AAO community.
And if you make a fancase that only has old characters in it, that also means that someone from canon characters has to be the culprit. Did you think about it?
If you want, I can try to help you with spriting, even though I'm a beginner.
