Famitsu has an article on the AA5 show that took place today - you can see it by copying and pasting (not just clicking on) the link below.

I'm afraid I don't have time to translate at the moment, but you can see some pretty cool stuff, including 3D investigations!

The new investiagtion style looks awesome!

The investigation, "point to a section of the screen" part of the games is what always gets a little tiresome. But adding depth and the ability to look around you is great!
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

That looks amazing. I wonder what that dog (?) themed room is all about...

Is this real 3D? Looks like hand drawn backgrounds to me and you can look around only in predetermined angles.

Hmm, now that you mention that, it's obvious that the trailer was not rendered on a 3DS or a 3DS emulator (for developers). It was rendered on a computer in HD with antialiasing and all. Pretty smart... otherwise showing that animation in full screen would look pretty horrible.

I think the fact it's rendered in HD with antialiasing makes it look like the backgrounds are 2D rather than 3D rendered.

Which leads me to wonder: will we see an AA5 HD down the road? Unless the trailer is completely proof of concept (which would be lame), it looks like the game is designed to be readily ported to a different console (or iOS) release. ...Or maybe this trailer is just output from the development tool(s) rather than a game engine.

It's just like the HD sprites we see in the TGS Court Event videos. They use higher quality then possible on the system for internal use, and then compress for the game.

As for iOS port, Rhythm Thief is being demoed on iOS at TGS, and the game was only released on the 3DS this year if memory serves. Granted this is Sega, not Capcom. But it is curious to say the least.

Hmm are those anime-cutscene screenshots down the bottom?

Also do you think that shot of Yellow Lady at the Desk indicates that she'll be a playable character? It's the Camera angle they use for the attorney and prosecutor rather than the aide after all.

Yeah, hence my backpedaling and wondering if the trailer is just output from the development/internal tools and not output from the game engine running on a PC.

It does seem that a lot of developers nowadays like quickly deploying stuff to iPads and iPhones for quick testing though... Then again, none of the developers I've seen doing this are ones that make 3DS games...

I don't know, look at this picture and this video and tell me the background isn't in 2D. :yuusaku:

No she stands on the side of the aide. However in the two new games the side kicks always stand on Phoenix' left side, so the camera angle doesn't suggest they would stand on the side of the prosecution like it did in the old games.

Well, ok. I suppose rooms always seen from a static angle like that one could have 2D backgrounds. But it's clear that the courtroom is 3D, since the camera pans and rotates.

The 2D backgrounds should be projected onto some sort of geometry though, otherwise the 3D effect would be weird, especially when those officers are standing near the wall like that. But that's simple and cheap to do.

However, the difference between 2D and 3D backgrounds would be very obvious since the 3DS has no antialiasing capabilities... I wonder how well that'll mix if they do it this way.

I know the cout room is clearly in 3D, but I can't confirm this for every location. But the screens from the investigation, especially with these two arrows on each side, left the impression to me that we'll only have static viewpoints in each room.

What does the text next to the dpad and the sliding pad say in this screen? Image

Wild guess:
Use the left and right dpad to rotate the camera, use the thumbstick to move the cursor.

The 3D investigations scheme looks awesome =D Though I was hoping for something more like AAI where you get to actually walk around the setting (and inspect every nook and cranny) instead of looking at the scenes.

Maybe we'll sort of be able to walk around the 3D space, just seeing everything from Nick's point of view. Kind of like a first person shooter or something. Although, the controls at the bottom don't seem to imply that...

Actually… you may get to see investigation sooner then you thought. I thought my screen capture of the live stream failed, but it turned out it exists. It's the shoddiest recording ever, but hey, it's all we got. Uploading now.
