Gematsu has put up some new screens for the English release of Dual Destinies, showing off case 2 and bringing with it a slew of character name:

Ban Gouzou is now Bobby Fulbright.
Yumemi Tenma is now Jinxie Tenma.
Kumabee Zeniarai is now Phineas Filch.
Kyuubi Village is now Nine-Tails Vale.

(Thanks to FluxWaveZ of NeoGAF for the heads up!)

So much for operation "hide-easten-mythology-from-people" when they stick the most obvious part in the name of the village.

Ugh. Trucy. She's as unlikable as ever. Why can't we just have a game without Apollo's cast of fail.

I think it's the dialogue recap tab.

Also, I just noticed Nick's Papa hat hanging up in the Agency.

By the dialogue recap tab is what can only be a memo function, as it is an image of a pen writing on paper.

Localization is looking good as ever. Wonder of that bit about Trucy being an "up and coming lawyer" was an error by the article's author or if she's being peer-pressured into a career change.
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. I could've been more specific. :sillytrucy:

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Trucy decided to become a lawyer too, but this is the first I've heard about it. Maybe they just mixed her up with Athena.

Hold up a minute.

In this screenshot, Filch has a bracelet not unlike Apollo's. But the picture of him in this group of screenshots shows his arms are bare.

Given his last name is synonymous with steal, I think it's safe to assume this dude steals Polly's bracelet at one point, preventing you from perceiving.

So Trucy's an up-and-coming attorney now?

I'm starting to believe the only real jobs that exist in that world are either somehow connected with the legal system or you just have to take really odd, temporary jobs to get by - like Larry and Maggey.

Ah yes. I generally don't click on the links.
I don't blame her for wanting to become an attorney, I myself am looking at getting training into the Legal Profession, especially with her adoptive father being an attorney again. But I don't see why anyone would want to become an attorney in the AA-verse, given... well, I've spoken a few times how dumb I think the whole law there is.

True. Still confirms that Filch and Apollo aren't related like some people theorized they were when they saw him with the bracelet.

My princess Trucy remains flawless, I'm loving Jinxie already and they line is probably a typo but I'm hoping it isn't because I've always thought she would end up becoming an attorney.

Also, Apollo remains demonic! Yay!

At least they bothered to change Fulbright's ID.

And interesting to see that Tenma Tarou is now just "Tenma Taro" and that the manor is named "Kyubi Manor". Not that they could disguise the fact the obviously Japanese setting with English names.

They've never hidden eastern mythology in the localizations because there hadn't been a case that involved Japanese mythology before... at least, not in-game. The ancient Chinese fable of the creation of the word "contradiction" is something else altogether.

Besides, just because they're in a Japanese-like village doesn't mean it HAS to be Japan, ya know...

Lusankya wrote:

Is that supposed to be pronounced "jinx-y" or "jin-shie", like in Chinese? I hope it's the former, because blending Chinese and Japanese names is like trying to mix oil and water. They sound so odd together.

Regarding this "Trucy is an up and coming attorney", the author of the Gematsu article responded to me, with the quote from Capcom's press release-esque thing...

I don't think so since a Kuyubi is a nine tailed fox so it could just as easily be that they came up with the most obvious English equivalent nine tails. The Wikipedia article for this also uses Nine-tailed fox strongly indicating that this is the common English usage for Kyuubi. In short I see this as nothing more than a Coincidence.

First of all, the Nine-Tailed fox is just a mythological creature that appears in many stories in east Asia, particularly Japan, China and Korea. Naruto is just another story with a Nine-Tailed fox, although it's most likely a very different version (I'll admit Asian mythology is not my strong suit.)

Secondly, the Ace Attorney franchise should not make a Naruto reference. Ever.

Edit: @ Irishmarcoos - Wow, really? I mean, it sure looks like it's true.

It's less a Naruto reference, more... common translated thing? Ugh no good with words today.

And yeah, it would be interesting if it turns out this is true, however, wouldn't we have already heard about this fact via the Japanese trailers/site/info? Pretty weird.

Oh yeah, they definitely didn't try that with the previous GS games. You know, with the obvious kotatsu in the boatshop shed. And all that talk that about noodles made west from the rockies!

I agree, a Kyuubi is common in Japanese folklore and it is certainly plausible enough that two people trying to come up with an English name for a mythical nine tailed fox could have independently come up with Nine Tails. Also, one of the bosses of Oakmi was called Nine tails as well. To be clear, I see no connection to Naruto outside using the same mythology creature.

I'd say pretty impossible, given how involved Eshiro is in the localization of the game. There wouldn't be a point to hiding it anyway.

Nonetheless, I do see this world as one dominated by the judicial system. It's a world where LAWYERS are treated as celebrities. Where in real life would you hear about the same lawyer hitting the news for more than one story?

Seeing how Kyuubi literally translates to "nine tails", I don't see why anyone would translate it differently. Not many mythological creatures have nine tails, and Kyuubi has always referred to the mythical fox in eastern myth.

Amen. Not hating on Naruto, but I've long stopped reading it. It stopped making sense and turned to fanservice ever since Shippuden.

To be fair, if every single real life case one certain individual got were as whacky as those Phoenix Wright accepts, that someone would probably get famous very quickly.

True, but there are a lot of lawyers in this world that get really famous without the zany cases that Nick takes. Then again, someone being able to win all his cases in a 40-year career would probably become world-famous too.

So would the guy who manages to take down that world-famous prosecutor, but for some reason, Nick didn't receive that much attention after that case. It all piled onto Edgey instead.

Japan.

Teaches you that if you're angsty and good-looking, everything will sort itself out.

But yeah, I must admit I'm not aware of many famous lawyers. I just happen to know that some of them earn more in one year than I will in an entire lifetime *grumble grumble*

Edit: and I messed up the quoting. I'm too tired to fix that now.

Quick Update RE: Mag-ttorney gate, Brett (Elston) got in touch and has said that it is true, HOWEVER, he has said he is not the "Ace Attorney Expert" of the bunch and has to go with what the release said.

Food for thought, this isn't the first DD press release that's had (potential) errors, example being "Cykes/Sykes" saga from the initial press release. So yeah... think what you will, for now.
