The first thing that came to mind when I heard about this (although after reading about the meiji period it was completely wrong), was that bizarre ace attorney inspired Dynasty Warriors game that came out a while ago.

That actually looks all kinds of awesome, shame I'll bet that was never localised.

Hey, what do you think the localised version of Ryuunosuke's name would be? I'm going to have to go with Roc Wright, because IMHO that's the best-sounding (and the most English-sounding) choice for a legendary bird-themed name, at least among those names of legendary birds I'm already acquainted with (yes, I've done some research :gregory: ).

Of course, I liked 'Perseus Wright' as soon as I heard it, so that would be my other guess.

I don't think the 'bird' part of Phoenix's name is the important aspect to keep. The Phoenix was chosen because it is reborn when it dies, it rises from the ashes, much like Phoenix does with his cases.

I googled for mythological creatures that are reborn, and found "The Bennu is an ancient Egyptian deity linked with the sun, creation, and rebirth. It may have been the inspiration for the phoenix in Greek mythology." Bird, rebirth, maybe the forefather of phoenix. Bennu Wright! And his nickname could be Ben. :maya:

Speaking of nicknames, I don't think Susato will be referring to Ryuu so casually. Even if she ends up becoming American too, it's a bit awkward for a refined, educated lady such as herself to treat him like he's her little cousin or something. Even if he looks like a teen, he's still a man. With a big sword. Wrapped up nicely with a ribbon.

Will Susato become an American? Probably not, but it doesn't hurt to shorten her name to, say, Susan. And on that subject, even if the setting will take place in Japan, it's still likely some names will change completely, rather than just be shortened or slightly altered. Not all the Japanese puns will be able to be translated, and we all know how Capcom loves its punny names.

It's too bad, since I'm hoping for some guy named Akano Tanin.

ORION. I did my homework; he's mythological and a die-and-reborn-person. Orion Wright. Admit it sounds pretty cool :basil:

Wikipedia's entry features stories that generally make him sound like such a douche, it's funny.

Orion's story has so many variations that most people can't really tell which one is most accurate, and I have no idea which version is the one that tells of him being revived. I've heard of the version where he's healed from blindness... thanks to the Sun <_< or something.

Well, I'm hoping that they still go for the dragon reference. They missed it with Nick, but since this guy is his ancestor, we could go for a name that has an even more "imperial" feeling to it... like a dragon. And this is Japan, so no evil European dragons around... unless there's a villain who's represented by one. East vs West, awesome.

We can call him Drake. Did you know that "drake" is also another name for a male duck

Well I looked at Wikipedia's page over myhological figures who die and are reborn ho hum

Somehow Drake seems the most plausible as things are now. Although Drake Wright feels pretty weird to say, I think.

It's no weirder than Phoenix Wright. We've just gotten used to saying that name around here. Or if you really want a Greek flavor to it, try Drakon Wright.

I meant that I think it feels weird, mostly because of the transition between the k-sound and the w-sound.

But we call the other guy Nick Wright a lot too! D:

...This conversation has seen better days. (Besides, if you add an n-sound in-between, it no longer sounds so dissonant.)

I've never called him Nick Wright. It's almost equally as hard for me, almost because it doesn't have the r-sounds in the beginning of both names. Anyway, that was my thoughts on the matter, let's call it a day with that. :phoenix:

Nick Wright is easy to pronounce (Maybe that's because English is my first language, and that those names are common. I know a Russel Wright haha.)
