I thought about the pun of バロック・バンジークス(Barokku Banjîkusu / Barock van Siegs) in Japanese.

万事休す(Banjikyûsu), it means "All is over."

万事休す : Banjikyûsu
バンジークス : Banjîkusu

Do you think these are similar...?

I already commented on this, but I think this is a fairly likely theory to the origins of the name, especially considering Takumi himself said how difficult it was coming up with the name.

Also, I just realized the proposed spelling of "Baroque Vamzyx" goes quite well with this idea: ZYX (or XYZ) are the last letters of the alphabet and there is nothing after those letters, invoking the same idea of 'all is over'. The anime/manga City Hunter for example also used the code "XYZ", where it was a desperate sign that showed that the writer had no place left to turn to, having used all other options.

Anyway, back to the real topic. Anyone care to say what would be this new prosecutor's name?

I will call him Edgeworth II till his name is revealed, too. And also, if this does not localize, that means another fan translation is going to occur which brings me thinking that what would DGS's English Name would be... :maya-thought:

You guys are definitely on to something here. It seems calling him "Prosecutor Vampy" was the right thing to do.

I guess we could always localize him as "Prosecutor Alucard" if nothing else. He just needs a whip...

Get real. The staff of DGS won't bother naming someone Vampy. I only liked the Alucard name, but the chance of using them is basically 0%.

It is only time until "Prosecutor Vampy" becomes a household name. You shall seeeee...

But seriously, if they're going to localize him, they'll probably go for a more English sounding name. But the puns with "vampire" are all but a given.

For some reason now, I can picture Vampy here shouting random English phrases whenever he takes damage. And Ryu and Susato giggle over them for some other reason.

" Impossible!"

Frankly, he looks so cold and confident, I'm curious what his reaction to the first loss will be.

Nah, I was thinking more along the lines of "BAKANAAA!" which would look really stupid to an English speaker, but is a joke the Japanese audience can get.

Either that, or it's the word "impossible" as katakana, but written over the Japanese translation, as if there's supposed to be a point to writing it like that.

Woah dat is echt ziek. But seriously, I really hope the new prosecutor is Dutch (although I'm 99.9% sure he's of German heritage or at least has links to Germany) because of the "van" which basically all Dutch last names start with. (Okay not all, but mine does, so hey.)

Of course he's from Germany! He's clearly the origination of the Von Karma school of thought (and probably bloodline).

Alternatively maybe "Van Ziek" is "Sick" in reference to his terrible pallor and complexion.

Maybe he has a terminal illness? He keeps talking about his "sacrifice" and all.

...Oh, my. If both this game's Edgeworth clones are kaputing it, it will truly be a sad state of affairs.

We don't know that for sure, Although Kazuma's a given. He's the Mia of the game.
Does he say anything about this "sacrifice"? Maybe he gave up something (Or someone?) To become a prosecutor, and regrets it? I don't want Vampy to die in the 1st DGS game though, I think he'll be the cliche "Turn into a good prosecutor who helps Ryu"

Dunno, it doesn't say more. I don't really expect him to go either, but he definitely has a victimized vibe about him, especially given that he's been missing for 5 whole years. Maybe a lost love or family member? Or a bat No, wait, this ain't Legal High

It could even be as simple as his dignity, but I'd say there would have to be a really empathetic reason for this. I can't really picture it as this anyway.

Oh, come on. I wasn't even thinking about that when I posted it. Not even whether or not he's ever mooned the judge, jurists, or defense before.

Okay, don't mind that example. Perhaps he didn't wish to convict someone he knew was innocent, or even worse, didn't want to convict someone who was guilty. Maybe he was pressured by someone into some case that he felt he shouldn't have touched. Things like that.

Then again, for someone who's epithet is essentially "Death", he probably has quite the bad rep, prosecutor or not. I wonder if he's even socially ostracized.

I like this one a lot better. "Bangieks" sounds strange as a name, needless to say as an English surname. I DON'T CARE ANYMORE. HE WILL ALWAYS BE PROSECUTOR VAMPY TO ME.

Edit: Taking a closer look, the newspapers now say "Guilty or Not Guilty" instead of "no guilty". It seems to me that this may actually be the more "correct" spelling if they were to decide on one.

It's also the most recent use of the name, so I'm going to guess that this is the correct, official spelling for Barok. Until they change his name again.
