Ah, yes...sweet Musical Melodrama - your name is Ace Attorney!

We all know that the PW games have some of the most interesting musical numbers - for those just realising this, where have you all been? :godot:

However, as a fan of the musical tracks...I must ask this out of curiosity - barring all MAJOR spoilers involved, which of the Reminiscence/Recollection themes interested you the most, if at all.

At what point did the theme really seem appropriate, and did it heighten your involvement in the case/moment at hand.

And, for that matter, upon first hearing it...what was your impression?

ALL AA games are acceptable - so GS 3/4 players, input is accepted but obviously remember that certain moments are not currently for OPEN discussion. Spoiler tags, however, can be used so that you guys can really have that in-depth conversation should it be needed - and the REALLY curious/unfazed-by-spoiler types can read should they so wish.

I also wanna add an extra spin on this: Should a Reminiscence Re-interpreted CD be released, and how would you like to have that produced if it were? Jazz...Orchastra...Bongo Drums...whatever.
If you can dream it, do your best to explain it. :phoenix:

Reminiscence ~ True Evening of Grief

I loved this piece. The melody was swell, and the interesting music types used really did the piece. However, the music piece was very short and too loopy, and the quickly-changing up-downs areas seemed kind of strange now, listening to it as a stand-alone music piece. Anyway, it was sad and exciting, and it really was pretty sweet. Kind of remember it, really. 7/10.

Reminiscence ~ Light and Shadow at the Film Studio

I am more mediocred to this one. While the music piece is pretty well done, it just isn't Reminiscensic to me. Too much 'beat' and a tad too fast. Seems more like a suspence theme to me. It doesn't really excite me, I'd have to say. While I remember the crazy title, the song is quite unknown to me. 4/10.

Reminiscence ~ The DL-6 Case

Very well made. Not only does it have a lenghth to it, it changes paces and it has the appropriate Reminiscence feel to it. It really is a very well made melody used. Maybe there is a bit too much change between the main theme, and the faster ending part, but that may just be me. Not a song one remembers. 8/10

Reminiscence ~ Classroom Trial

Like LaSatFS, this seemed off. Just went up and down in intensity, and repeated infinitely. Too little melody to actually do anything. Forgot all about this one, as a matter of fact. 2/10.

Reminiscence ~ SL9 Incident

A VERY sweet music piece. The slowness and the mysteric tunes of it really worked well. Even if it is kind of short in length, I like it alot, and you cannot NOT remember this song. 8/10

Reminiscence ~ The Fire Carves Scars

Best. Reminiscence theme. Ever. Everything about it is so AWESOME. The main theme goes VERY well, and the pipes back it up expertly. It has the 'but don't give up!' part, that some of the earlier parts lack. This is the only song I can ever imagine being SUNG by anyone. I wrote some lyrics for it a while back, but can't find it. Anyways, most memorable PW:JFA track, and ones of the best overall. 10/10

Reminiscece ~ True Pain

A very interesting song. Much diffrent than the earliers, but still of high quality. The only problem is that the deeper song didn't treat well with the light main song. Diffrent, but still very great. 9/10

Reminiscence ~ Steel Samurai's Ballad

A slowed down Steel Samurai - but what a slowed down piece! it completely changed the music. Very peaceful. Like a 'Game Over' theme. Slightly sad and tear-inducing. Very nice. Very, very nice. 10/10

Godot - The fragrance of dark coffee

Basically a Reminiscence in the way it's used, this theme is really breath taking. I'm not a jazzy person, but this song is very close to perfection. I can't tell you why. Oh, and it gets on your mind. 10/10

Reminiscence ~ What the Others have Seen

Very beutiful and dark music piece. It works quite well with it's instruments, but it has a few places where the song kind of... breaks. That really lowered it. But overall, very nice piece. I don't remember this piece the slightest. 6/10.

Reminiscence ~ Shadow on the Bridge

For such a moment in the game, this felt out of place. The song is disasterious at places, too much frontal music, rather confusing. The main theme ideas are great, but the song itself felt lacking and boring. I'll need to wait for the DS-remake to see if a better quality clears it up. 2/10.


Reminiscence ~ Bitter Taste of Truth

Very powerful theme. As powerful as G-RoDC. Maybe a little to tic-tacy at parts, but the powerfulnes really covers it. 9/10.

Reminiscence ~ A Hurt Kitsune

I like it, but seems a bit too un-powerful compared to the character that it's supposed to cover. The 'singing' could be used more smoothly, and less tic-tacy. The music flows excelent. 7/10.

Reminiscence ~ A Fate Smeared by Tricks and Gadgets

Waaay too dark for my liking. Although the bit that begins at 0:30 saves it. But way too dark for me. If it was a bit lighter, it might feel more Reminiscensic. 5/10.

Reminiscence ~ Forgotten Legend

I didn't really like the WhoooWaaaahWhooh, but the later light parts was pretty swell. The music flowed, but it lacked melody. 4/10.


For some inspiration to reminiscence, I can name Alundra - Kline's Dream, which is sheer wonderful. Also Alundra - The Shrine of the Lake is of similar awsomeness, and still in the theme of reminiscence. And some of the themes in Trauma Center might also be of interest?

As for how I want to see a remake, please no jazz or bongo. If you want a specific theme, then I'd say Ocestral, or perhaps even Requiremish. I can't see any other type of music suitable for the tracks.

@Mikker: Why dont you like 1-3s reminiscience? (Well, never mind...you just explained). I personally thought it was more remeniscient (god i hate that word) then almost all the others. It just has that "irrevertable tradgedy" ring to it. Like something horrible happened and its echoing in everyones memory...nobody could stop it, though it affected all who were involved.

First of all, as I wrote, I felt it more as a Suspense theme than a Reminiscence. It was an okay song, but I thought it was too up-beat compared to the others. It is true that the song has a very nice melody, but the way it is used is for me as far from Reminiscence as it can be. Drums are, for me, banned from being used in Reminiscence. It has it, and it ruins the feel. It seems unemotional to me. Not weak, by no means, but not on an emotional level. Like, an Announcing the Truth theme.

I love the Reminiscence tracks. Taking a page out of Mikker's book...

Spoiler: GS1
True Evening of Grief - This one lacks impact in my mind. Listening to it right now, it's a suitably sad song, but no distinct moments come to mind when it was played. 4/10

Light and Shadow at the Film Studio - I love this track, I really thought it was perfect for the moments it was used. It's a lot lighter than a lot of the other Reminiscence tracks, but I feel that suits the case it was in. 7/10

DL6 Case - Just listening to this track gets me emotional. Of course, it's absolutely intertwined with my mental image of Edgeworth in this case--it's suitably tragic without descending into melodrama. 10/10

Classroom Trial - Another one that lacks impact for me. Whenever it comes up in my playlist, I didn't even remember it was from the classroom trial scene. Its sound isn't distinct enough from the others. 4/10

SL9 Incident - If the DL6 theme encapsulates my thoughts of Edgeworth, this song always makes me think of Lana, trying to protect her sister all alone. There's a sort of heaviness to it, like someone is shouldering a huge burden. 10/10


Spoiler: GS2
The Fire Carves Scars - My third favorite Reminiscence track, even though I don't really have a scene in mind when I hear it. It's just so melancholy and sad, reminding me of someone who's given up. 10/10

True Pain - This is a middle of the road track for me. Since I'm not wild about Acro as a character, it doesn't really evoke any emotion in me, and it seems too over the top. 3/10

Steel Samurai's Ballad - Actually quite a decent job of translating that upbeat tune into a suitably sad ballad, but whenever I listen to it, I can't help but think of the original, so it doesn't evoke much "sadness" in me. I love it as a track, though. 8/10

Godot - The Fragrance of Dark Coffee - If I'm in a certain frame of mind while listening to it, this song is so sad I nearly cry. It's like loneliness distilled into music. 11/10

What the Others Have Seen - While decent enough, this is another one that brings nothing particular to mind. I believe it plays after you break Urami's psyche-lock, but as much as I love her as a character, I don't feel like she was deep enough for me to mourn over. 7/10

Viewing the Hazy Bridge and Its Scenery - This song makes me cry. It makes me think of that scene from 3-4. It's just a weakness of mine. ^^;; 10/10

The Bitter Taste of Truth - This one is a good one, but I think it's about on par with "what the Others", meaning it's good, nicely put together, but it doesn't evoke that same feeling of anguish in me. 7/10


Spoiler: GS4
Overall, this game is really weak when it comes to Reminiscence tracks. It's a shame, because I actually like a lot of GS4's music.

A Hurt Kitsune - Since this one wasn't particularly sad, it's more of a simple flashback theme. While I think it works well as that, it doesn't have that mournful quality I get when I think of Reminiscence tracks. 3/10

A Fate Smeared by Tricks and Gadgets - Toooo heaaavy. It's too forboding for me, not especially sad or reflective. not a bad track, but again, just doesn't work for me as a Reminiscence track. 2/10

Forgotten Legend - This track only really works well in 4-1, because it's suitably mysterious and piques your curiosity. But there's not a lot of sadness behind it, just sort of a "creey mystery" feeling. And since I didn't feel like it lived up to its promise, this track has zero impact on me except as a nice tune. 2/10

I actually didn't realize it was a remix of the SS theme until someone pointed it out.

Steel Samurai Ballade > all.

It's the only Reminiscence theme I can actually listen to as an actual song without turning it off in like 20 seconds.

True Evening of Grief - It's not a bad song, but it's not that great. I mean, yeah, it fits, and yeah, it's sad, but it's not a song that really "strikes" me. 5/10.

Light and Shadow at the Film Studio - I love the music, but it's not sad at all. It actually reminds me of investigation music, only a bit sadder. So I like the track, just not as reminiscence music. 6/10.

DL6 Case - This was my favorite case, and I adore Edgeworth, but I really don't like this track. It repeats too much, and it's OK at first but it just really gets on my nerves after a while. 2/10.

Classroom Trial - I really like this track! It's sad, and it goes with the scene. I can just picture myself in a room with everyone glaring at at me and I just want to curl up into a little ball and disappear. 8/10.

SL9 Incident - I never liked Case 5, but the music is great. I absolutely LOVE Ema, Jake and Gant's music. But I dislike this track. I guess it goes with the incident, but like the DL-6 music it's just so repetitive and bores the hell outta me. 2/10.

The Fire Carves Scars - I love this song. JFA really has sone great music. This fits Ini's situation perfectly, it makes me think of hopelessness and sadness and makes me feel like crying. 10/10.

True Pain - It was sad, but I just don't like it. I dunno why. It just doesn't stick out in my mind at all. I guess it fits the scenes and the characters, though, so I shouldn't complain too much. 4/10.

Steel Samurai's Ballad - I LOVE THIS TRACK. It goes perfectly with the scenes, especially Celeste in my opinion. It was so sad that I had no idea it was the Steel Samurai son until I heard the track name. And it's perfect - it shows the sad, dark, less glamorous world of the Steel/Nickel Samurai and what goes on behind the scenes. 11/10.

Godot - The Fragrance of Dark Coffee - It's jazzy and nice. But it's only really sad if you're in the right mood, if you know what I mean. Like, I'm listening to it right now and I'm not sad so it just sounds like a jazz piece, still a bit sad. I'm not that crazy about it like most people are. =/ 8/10.

What the Others Have Seen - It's sad and fits Urami IMO, but not that memorable. But I do like it. One of those songs I wanna play on my flute and have fun with. 6/10.

I listen to music on finalturnabout.com, and they haven't got all the reminisence up. So I haven't heard it all.

Forgotten Legend - I really like this song. It's sad, and fits really well. It makes me want to sing. =] 7/10.

Evening of True Grief:
Definately needs to be used more. It seems less like a reminiscience to me, simply because its in two cases and dosent refer to an event shrouded in the past. It fits the "sad" part very well, though. I gave it the name "Mayas Lament" before I knew it was a reminiscience. (I gave all of them my own names, to be honest. Call me wierd.) 8/10

Light and Shadow at the Film Studio (or "Five Years Ago", as I named it 8P)
I love this track. My full opinion is up a few posts. To me, in short, it ultimately symbolizes in music the word "tradgedy". 9/10

DL-6 (Dl-6...well thats all there is to call it really)
I like this one. Its very...sad, twisted, and mysterious. It fits the misty-lake-at-night setting very well. It is also sort of complex, in its own way...just like the two cases. They both have a darker side, and it is this song that represents that to me. (Whoa Im really getting into this...I am such a geek) 7/10

Class Trial
This also suits the setting. Repetitive. Not too deep. But then again, although the true culprit in this case got off for fifteen years, the case itself is obviously rather shallow. It works. 7/10

SL-9
I love this one. It seems...hm, well "dusty" to me. Just the way the sounds are used. Very slow and not sad, but ...bitter. Again, it fits the situation very well. Its dark and...I dunno. These songs are charged with emotion to me. 9/10


Spoiler: Justice for All
The Fire carves Scars (The Accident, on my playlist)
The best reminiscience as of yet. So very deep that I cant describe it better then the others have. 10/10.

True Pain (Pepper-Scented Scars)
Very sad. (Cant count how many times Ive typed that. But it makes sense, obviously. These events arent happy little walks in the meadow. Anyway...) Very striking. It also seems to remind me of the circus track, somehow. I think my mind is subconsciously playing tricks on me. 8/10

Ballad of the Steel Samurai (Rivalry, Dependancy, Suicide)
It works, I spose. Not very good for a last case of an AA game. Its sad, but thats all it is. Also bitter. I didnt realize it was the SS music until my brother pointed it out to me. 6/10

Sad song, fits really great were ever it plays, but it does only play like, twice 7/10

Light and Shadow at the Film Studio
Not a bad tune in it self, my favorite part of case 3 is Vasquez's flashback, so I like it 7/10

DL-6
One of my favorite ones, whenever it plays in
game, I always feel like I have to sit and listen to it 10/10

Classroom Trial
Unlike some people, I like this one. It really shows what Phoenix felt while he was being accused wrongly 9/10

SL-9
I don't really like this one. It was a bigger case than DL-6, but didn't have the music to show for it. 5/10

Perfectly describes the whole case really. To bad I don't really care about the person this plays for because it was all her fault 9/10

True Pain
I like this one, because it go's with Acro's pain so well, and I actually like Acro... 9/10

The Steel Samurai's Ballad
Perfect song for Adrian's sad sad past, makes you wanna cry :(. 10/10

Brokenhearted Mayoi
A great piece in itself and fit the atmosphere of the detention center well in Turnabout Sisters. Seeing Maya so depressed like no one was on her side only made this stick out more. It has that ominous, echoing tone that makes you feel that all is lost and there's no one on your side. 8/10

The Light and Dark Side of the Film Studio
Dark and mysterious. Just how I like my music. As a Reminiscence it captures the unavoidable, unanticipated tragedy that fell upon the Global Studios five years ago. I know it repeats itself rather quickly but the impact of tragedy it leaves behind is nothing to scoff at. 8/10

DL-6 Incident
My favorite Reminiscence track in this game. It captures the unforseen mystery and tragedy revolving around the DL-6 Incident and moves along at a nice rythmic pace. Not too fast and not too slow but just right so that you don't feel over or underwhelmed. In fact, I dare says it's soothing to hear. 10/10

Grade School Trial
I used to love this track if only because of the high-pitched melancholy music. Then I realized how often the track would repeat itself and disliked it a lot. As a Reminiscence track it stands well on it's own but it's very irritating to hear the same notes every five seconds. 4/10

SL-9 Incident
Very dark and ominous, like it's foreshadowing inevitable doom. It's more like a "revelation" tune unraveling a long overdue confession and mystery. It's not too great as a Reminiscence track but it's tolerable none the less. It's just so dark that it adds a sense of realism to the Phoenix Wright series. 7/10


Spoiler: Justice For All
The Fire Carves Scars
A beautiful piece. It sets the tone for "accident caused tragedy" incredibly well that my breath was taken away when I first heard it after Mimi finally confessed to her guily. I just couldn't help but feel sorry for her and the music only added to that lament. 9/10

True Pain
An astounding blend of tragedy, comedy, and guily all in one. It has that uplifting "circus" feel to it while displaying a tragedy caused by innocence and one man's reckless actions which finally brought him about to his downfall. Masterfully composed and with the right balance of light-heartedness combined with tragedy and error. 10/10

The Steel Samurai's Ballad
A top-notch piece with that melancholy sound of emptiness, guilt, regret, revenge, and truths too deep and ugly to be handled. It has that "echoing feel" of several other Reminiscence tracks and stands on it's own incredibly well while the sound of tragedy it plays echoes through the player's mind as everything comes to fruition. The best JFA Reminiscence track. 10/10

Evening of True Grief:
Not a bad piece of music, but its a bit to generic. I mean, I can't associate it to a case just by listening to it. 5/10.

Light and Shadow at the Film Studio :
I actually like this one quite a lot. It fits well whit the case. The only downside, realy, is that its not memorable and too short. 6/10.

DL-6:
THE most played reminiscence trough the first two games. Lucky its not a bad theme. Very memorable and seams to fit Edgeworth's history, too. 8/10.

Class Trial:
Too short and somewhat similar to DL-6. 4/10.

SL-9:
One of the best reminiscence yet. Fits the case very well, and even tought you hear it over and over again you don't get bored of it. 9/10.

The Fire carves Scars:
Probably the saddest reminiscence in the first two games. Very sad and goes well whit the story. 10/10.

True Pain:
Another great reminiscence. Again goes well whit the story, and you can just imagine Acro's pain when you hear this song. 8/10.

Ballad of the Steel Samurai: My favourite reminiscence. Its not the saddest team (The craves Scars and True Pain are much sadder), but I just love it. Its Jazz remix is also quite good.

I find it kind of funny that GS1 has generally better music that GS2, but that GS2 has better reminiscence themes...

I actually like this one quite a lot. It fits well whit the case. The only downside, realy, is that its not memorable and too short. 6/10.

DL-6:
THE most played reminiscence trough the first two games. Lucky its not a bad theme. Very memorable and seams to fit Edgeworth's history, too. 8/10.

Class Trial:
Too short and somewhat similar to DL-6. 4/10.

SL-9:
One of the best reminiscence yet. Fits the case very well, and even tought you hear it over and over again you don't get bored of it. 9/10.

It's the same thing with GS4. Somehow, it's remniscence tracks are the worst of the bunch, while the REST of the music is part of the BEST of the bunch :gant:

Good, but not the most memorable one.
7/10

Light and Shadow at the Film Studio
Awesome! I even felt sympathy with Dee when it was played.
9/10

DL6 Case
It's repetitive and such, but it gives the claustrophobic feel that you are stuck into a small, dark place. It's sure not the tune I'll listen to, but fits the scene.
8/10

Classroom Trial
Same as at True Evening of Grief.
7/10

SL9 Incident
I listened to it twice, but nothing came into my mind to write. Not bad, but very repetitive.

GS4 is really a mixed bag when it comes to music. I thought the pursuit theme was weakest of the games, but oh man, cannot stop listening to the Arumajiki theme, and Minuki's theme. And Lamiroir's is one of my all time favorite character themes.
