Anissa briefly returned to her room to make sure she hadn't left anything there. Just before leaving, she noticed the magazine lying on the floor, which she hadn't seen until now for some reason.

She curiously picked it up, but upon discovering the nature of its contents, she shouted, "Wh- What the hell? What is th- this doing here?!"

She immediately threw it into the hallway and hurried back to the elevator, not bothering to close the door behind her.

"Finally." Shirly rubs her arm. "Ursino island huh. I don't like the sound of this place, but then again, I didn't expect to."

She heard Anissa discover the magazine.

"Turn to page 27," Shirly called. "None of the other pages have anything good on them."

Sachiko went back to her room. Taking a good look around, she packed up as many of her plants as she could carry. She bit her lip; it wasn't enough for a long stay but it'd do for now. She walked back out with the box, and had a parasol covering them to protect them from the sun.

"Ursino Island....great, we'll be staying on a bear pun...." She sighed, but shifted the heavy box in her hands and relaxed.

"Oh that?" Shirly laughed to Anissa. "I was wondering where that went to. Well, if you saw two cute girls who would make an even cuter couple, wouldn't you want to draw them together? I saw you two at the breakfast table both reaching for a muffin. And then your hands touched. It was a perfect moment I just had to get down."

She turns to Sachiko.

"So is that what 'Ursino' means? Huh, that bear is really full of himself."

Seeing some of the others returning to their rooms, Kagayaki decided she should do the same; it would probably be a good idea to change after the trial, anyway. Between washing, putting on a fresh outfit, and packing her soiled garments in a cloth bag, it was nearly an hour before she emerged, bag in tow, and headed back to the deck to rejoin the others.

Akio nervously stumbled towards the others, seeming incredibly off. He didn't have a need to return to his room with nothing to take with him. His typical rude demeanor was nearly absent.

Casey staggers out onto the sand, bat in hand, flecks of blood on her worn jeans. She makes it decently far out, and stretches out her arms, and flops over with a soft thud.

"Holy cow this is so much sand... And so much damn water."

She frowned. "They're not drugs....I don't know why everyone calls them drugs, they're simply plants and they're all natural and--" she took a moment to take a breather.

"If you're not gonna take it now I'll just keep holding onto it til you're ready to take it back again. If you want, I can also give you a medicine to calm you down some. I can tell you're rather.....for lack of a better term, traumatized. Just a bit. Rightfully so."

"We can't win them all, trust me. It's best not to fret over it, cause we're gonna need to put all our focus and concentration into getting outta here, on top of keeping each other from dying. Let's show those people who hate us, Yeah? Show em we can overcome anything. I believe in us!" She smiled hopefully, then sighed.
"I'm not the best at motivation, sorry. And I can't exactly give you a hug with these...." She looks down to the plant box.

"Hey are you kids okay?!"

Casey gets up and jogs across the shore with her bat.

"Akio, is Sachi bothering you about something?"

"C'mon man! Don't be calling nobody traumatized. We just had a chance to think about ourselves, you know? People are gonna be a little different, and there's nothing wrong with that. Fire's a tool that we don't gotta talk about right now."

"Hell yeah Akio! It's good that you're looking inside yourself! I don't think nobody could be upset with you if they met you now!"

Not having anything to grab from his room, because he didn't have one in the first place, S addresses his classmates.

"If anyone wants some help carrying anything from their rooms, feel free to let me know. I don't mind lending a hand if anyone wants it. I'll be on the beach if anyone needs me."

He then disembarks from the boat, and heads on to dry land.

Akio shuffled towards Sachiko.

"No, she's not bothering me..." Akio sighed. "...But that's right. Fire is stupid! I don't have to involve myself with stupid fire anymore! I-I'll find a new talent! I'm sure I can do something else right!"

Akio proudly puffed his chest. "Fire...what has fire done for me? B-Besides giving me a purpose...but that's aside the point! I bet I can be a bodyguard! Judging by Dale, it doesn't seem that hard!"

"Yeah man! You would make a sick bodyguard I bet! I don't know what we'll be needing on this island, but, uh... I definitely think we'll need someone to protect us like you. But yeah man there's lots you could do, just try it out and see if it fits you. I didn't figure out I was a good pool player until like fourteenish anyway, and that was only because I was kicked outta the house. This is like the ultimate opportunity to find something new."

"N-no, please don't become a Barista," said Shirly to Akio. "The pay is low, and you need to suss out every penny in tips... like, by using loads of makeup or shortening your skirt as much as your manager allows you to..."

Shirly fidgeted a bit, her classmates looked at her funny.

"A-and other baristas kinda hate you for doing this... I almost think the money isn't worth it, but I really need it..."

"Aw, gross, Shirly. That sounds like kinda an awful gig. I mean, I ain't happy or nothing really with the amount of money I make either, but in the end at least other people aren't making me... y'know... dress some way for their 'personal' interests."

Casey shifts in place and shudders.

"Man, Akio, I bet Dale will teach you if you ask enough. I dunno, he's not as big a man of action as I thought he'd be, but as long as you explain yourself well enough, I bet he'd do it. We'll be able to get him to..."

She laughs, cracking her knuckles.

Wordlessly, Claudius ran madly to his room. Shortly after, he returned with a small box tucked under his arm.

Lyla heads to her room immediately after exiting onto the deck, changing her clothes and washing.

She comes out around an hour later, carrying an almost full bag behind her. Her clothes seem to be light purple versions of the same clothes, but without the hoodie.

Secretly relieved that he had made it to the second chapter for the first time, Sir Cardor gave a resounding laugh. "At last! Land! This is rather relieving. I need a breath of fresh sea air." He turned around and opened his helmet to take a deep breath. "Ah, that's incredibly. The atmosphere…perhaps my true calling was a sailor this whole time!" He smirked and closed his helmet to make sure the others didn't see his face, and then went back to his room to retrieve his goods.

"Anyway, Mr. Monokuma?!" He called out, hoping to see him. "I, er, have a few questions." But as he spoke he tripped and fell, making his possessions fall over the place. While he grumbled incoherently trying to pick everything back up, he accidentally ran into Claudius. "Ah, Sir Conqueror! How goes the day? Is that a box I see underneath your arm? I didn't quite take you to be a 'boxer', as it were. I've never really practised, of course, I'm more of a swordsman.", he commented.

Like some of the others, it seemed Dale didn't have anything to get from his room, other than spare clothes which could wait until the last moment. Instead of returning to his room, he used the time to return to the boat's trial grounds for what was probably to be the last time. Getting in the elevator alone, he descended and braced himself for what he was about to see.

Spoiler: Chapter 2: Ghost of a Chance
Hope’s Peak Academy...

It brings in top students from every field imaginable. A government-funded school of privilege. They say that if you come here and manage to graduate, you’ll be set for life. It was built to raise hope in the nation’s future.

There are two things you need to be attending this school. One, you have to already be attending high school. Two, you have to be the very best at what you do. No ordinary student can enroll here. The only way in is if you’re scouted by the school itself. And standing there at the gate of the ultimate school filled with ultimate students, was me, the most ultimate of them all.

“Before we go any farther, I guess I should introduce myself. My name’s John Bramwell, the Ultimate Hypnotist.

“I suppose I have to admit I’m not really here by choice. I got kicked out of high school for hypnotizing my teachers to get me A’s and well...word spreads, as you might imagine. My parents pretty much forced me to go here as it was the only place that would take me for my talent.

“I can’t say I’m too upset. It’s not like I hate school. In fact, meeting all these other Ultimate Students...well, it almost sounds like fun.”

The ship is flanked by auto-tugboats that help it into port. A large bay extends forward, and connects with a similar, covered gangway that extends from the ship.

You can see in the distance, a path that leads to several buildings off in the distance, one much larger than the rest.

“Follow me!” said Monokuma. “Except for the hockey puck-- it can stay behind or… jump overboard or whatever.”

“I HAVE BASIC SELF-PRESERVATION FUNCTIONALITY” MonoRoomba replied, opting to follow along instead.

The rest of the class followed uncertainly.

Spoiler: The Monokuma Ursino
[The Monokuma Ursino]
A large, gaudy, multi-story casino with a comically large neon light with the casino’s name and a rough portrait of Monokuma’s eye as a logo. Outside is a gas-powered air compressor that can be mounted on a trolley to be moved.

[First Floor]

[Casino floor]
Your senses are assaulted immediately by the sounds of dozens upon dozens of slot machines. The most eye-catching thing is a truly absurdly large roulette wheel-- it had to be over 50 meters in diameter. Surely such a contraption couldn’t actually move.

“Such japes and jests!” Claudius said, laughing. “This opulence is not to my taste, but I recognize a palace when I see one!”

“Uh… pretty sure it’s just a casino or… something?” Lyla said, somewhat less impressed.

[Poker room]
A bunch of felt covered tables designed for card games-- mostly poker and blackjack. In one corner of the room, there is a small supply cabinet with new decks of cards, and others that have had holes punched in them. The theme of this room seems to be Asian-inspired, but it looks to have been decorated in the tackiest way possible. Several asian inspired bladed weapons are adorned on the walls, including kunai, and swords and staffs from all across East Asia. In addition, art pieces adorn space on the wall- including Noh masks, and traditional watercolor paintings. The edges of the doors opposite their hinges are padded, in order to block out sound that might come into the room from outside, creating a very quiet atmosphere considering there is only one wall separating it from the Casino floor room.

[Craps room]
The craps room is centered upon several heavy wooden tables with soft felt tops depressed into the table. The room itself is in an over-the-top “exploring the Congo” theme, with a mounted blunderbuss, a display case with several ceremonial spears, and placard featuring two hollowed-out bamboo chutes.

[Events Supply Room]
Tanks of helium, balloons, high-density rubber tubing, as well as birthday supplies. Streamers.

[Buffet and Cafe]
The Cafe has a working top-of-the-line cappuccino-style coffee maker, complete with milk frother and built-in thermometer. There is a small refrigerator with milks and creams, as well as a sandwich press.

[The Kitchen… But, like another one]
This Kitchen is somewhat smaller than the one on the ship, but it is no less impressive. This kitchen has an incredible variety of pots, pans, woks and other panwear. Several stovetops, as well as dual ovens, both conventional and convection ovens. In addition, there’s a walk-in freezer with various meats and frozen sundries, as well as a walk-in crisper refrigerator, with several seemingly fresh fruits and vegetables. There is a first-aid kit for emergencies here.

[Animatronic Show Floor]
A small, creepy show plays here with several different black and white bears, all singing the same creepy song.

“...A stage, for mechanical actors?!?” Sir Terrence said, looking with disgust. “Forsook! I cannot brook such absurdity!”

“...Sir Terrence, I believe that this sort of show is quite common.” said S. “Just… not usually in this kind of establishment…”

[Animatronic Repair Shop]
A broken-down black and white bear with a straw hat and a piece of wheat in its “teeth” has its head separated from its body.

“This… is… clucking creepy.” Dale said, looking at the decapitated bear. “I would not want to spend five nights here.”

[Second Floor]

As the class gets on the elevator, they notice that there are multiple floors whose labels seem to be messed up-- like someone had scratched them off.

“Looks like… we’ve either got the 2nd floor, or whatever the ‘Game Floor’ is…” said Silas.

"Oh, uh..." Monokuma said. "Sorry-- I didn't do that one yet. No sense in filing off the label if you've already seen it."

There was a keyhole underneath the elevator buttons. However, none of the floor buttons seemed to work, except for the second floor.

[Hotel rooms]

There are 16 rooms, open to be registered by anyone with the student handbooks. Since S lacks a student handbook, he takes a room, but can’t lock his door.

Unlike the ship, though, each room is much better put-together compared to the ship. The mattresses are somewhat bigger, and has multiple pillows. The sheets are still on the cheap end, but each bed also has a nice down comforter. Also, there is a bath/shower combo with variety of scented soaps and even some bubble-bath mixture.

Each hotel room has a small fridge and a desk with rolly chair as well.

[Plaza]
This is a nice, open area with a fountain and several small shrubs. It would have been nice to stop a while, but it was overshadowed by what was adjacent to it. “I-is that a… a…” Anissa stuttered.

[Pool]
Not olympic-sized, but more than enough to house all of the remaining students. There’s a nearby hot tub with jets, and a variety of bathing suits for both young men and women, as well as a changing room.

Spoiler: Ancillary buildings
[Garden]
Rows upon rows of edible plants, from herbs, to fleshy vegetables, planted in this fertile and peaceful soil. There are some implements as well: hoes, rakes, shovels, as well as pots, and a small shed with a washing station.

“Herbs!! I love it!” said Sachiko “I’m going to take a quick look around, see what seeds I can add to my collection.”

“Quite…. not the garden I would have liked, but it is… moderately peaceful. And I can see its charms.” said Kagayaki serenely. “Still, this would not be sustainable without… ah, there it is-- something to generate fertile soil.”

[Compost Pile]
Food scraps are placed in a large plastic bin. Near the bottom, there is a hole from with nutrient-rich soil can be extracted for use in the garden. Next to the pile is a pile of chopped wood, some treated, some not.

[Trash disposal furnace]
A simple, small metal furnace, leading to a an incinerator. Meant for disposing of waste, both organic and nonorganic.

“Take care! This place looks dangerous!” said Monokuma, knowingly.

Spoiler: Motive
“Did ya guys miss me?” Monokuma and his fellow roomba headed towards the class.

“Ugh, let’s not even bother listening to them.” Sachiko suggested. “It’s not like any of us are going to kill now that the mastermind’s dead.”

“.......I’M GOING TO EXPEDITE THIS CONVERSATION.” The roomba decided. “YOU GUYS WILL VOW TO NEVER KILL FOR SOME TIME. MAYBE SOME WILL EVEN POINT OUT THE BLOOD ON SIX PAIRS OF HANDS ALREADY. MONOKUMA WILL ASK ‘ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT?’”

“Hrrrrrmmmm!” Monokuma huffed. “The part where they insist they’re staying together and living in harmony only to find out that they didn’t know each other quite as well as they thought is the best paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaart… Anyway, here’s your motive!”

“T-That’s-!” Kagayaki’s mouth was agape as Monokuma pulled out an old leather book.

“The Necronomicon of legends…” She studied the book, tracing her finger along it.

The story was surprisingly familiar to a lot of people in the group. Very recently, some archaeologists had discovered an ancient book with contained specific instructions for how to revive a life. The exact details are vague, but one rule was clear: you must take a life to get a life.

The book’s powers were surprisingly proven. It had caused mass panic in the country it was discovered, and lots of religious and humanistic protests concerning the revived people’s place in the world.

The book was recently stolen, and never found again.

“T-That’s not….that’s not seriously the flippin’ Necronomicon, right?” Dale stammered.

“O-Of course not.” Shirly didn’t waste a breath.

“It is.” Terrence spoke up. He nodded seriously at everyone. “This is the Necronomicon. Trust me, I have no doubt.”

“I’ll just leave this lying around in a special place.” Monokuma decided. “You’ll all find it soon enough, and you’re free to revive as many dead relatives as you please! Hell, this thing’s a great backup option sick people too! You never know when you’ll need a second life!”

Spoiler: Updated FTE Rules
Do you have an expired FTE with someone? If you or the other person in that FTE request the other person again, the FTE is revived and becomes permanent. So essentially, two FTEs make up one permanent FTE.

If you were trial MVP in the previous trial your FTE this chapter can be:
-Permanent
-A Ouija Board (FTE a dead person, lasts one chapter. Costs 2 FTEs if not MVP)
-Love Suite (play as someone’s ideal fantasy, lasts one chapter. Costs 2 FTEs if not MVP)

"Huh? Bring back the dead? That's ridiculous! What the hell?! Everyone knows you can't mess with that black magic crap!"

Casey turns and goes to mess around in the Casino, clearly interested in the poker room.

"This is so wicked sweet! High rollers' table, BABY!"

Sir Cardor looked around semi-interestedly. "Hmm, this seems to be quite the interesting island. However, gambling is hardly my strong suit of armour, as a noble defender. We never had such things back in Zeriphia." He sighed nostalgically. "But anyhow, that book of the dead poses deadly problems to us. Perhaps we should keep it under lock and key, or burn it entirely", he suggested. "We must not kill again anyway now that the malevolent mastermind has finally been dealt with." He then went to the plaza to relax.

"That's exactly why you should be gambling, Terry! Nothing like the thrill of having no idea what's going on!"

Casey cackles.

"Also no way that burning the Necronomicon isn't going to unleash extremely sinister-ass magics, dude."

"That sounds quite adventurous, but I'm afraid I'll have to decline." Sir Cardor shook his head, "A man of my caliber shouldn't go down to the level of a mere gambl- Hmm, actually…" Thinking it over for a second, he nodded. "Why not?" He joined Casey over at the poker room.

"Very well, then. How do we start?", he asked her.

Akio nervously glanced at the mysterious book. He seemed to go into a brief state of thinking beforr shaking his head and denying the unthinkable.

"That's just stupid..."

Akio sighs and skips over to Dale, accidentally ramming him in the chest.

"Dale! We're friends, right? Of course we are! I need advice...see, fire isn't the life for me anymore. So I was thinking I needed to find a new talent...and you make bodyguarding look so easy!"

"Haha! Poker night with the boys! Hell yeah!"

"Hopefully more people people will come over to play, but basically poker is like a game of guile and wit and stuff. You gotta understand how your opponents think, and like try to get them too do what you want... Well maybe it'd just be better to give you this..."

Casey pushes a lot of chips over to Terry, and begins to play a couple of hands. Casey constantly bets all the way to the betting cap, and is genuinely pretty horrible at the game, giving herself more chips as she goes along.

Sir Cardor played along with Casey, though it was apparent that he had absolutely no idea what he was doing. "Er, these are chips, correct? Then why can't you eat them?" He asked while playing. "Is that why you're collecting them so much, Lady Casey? Seems rather confusing to me, really. Er…can I bet now? Or do I flush the toilet, or buy a full house with a wife and children?" If Casey was playing horribly, he was doing just as bad.

"What the..." Momo muttered. "N-necronomicon? Uh...how is that a motive again...? What's it going to do, create some kind of creepy cult that'll split the class in two? That's like, kinda dumb.."

"Dude of course not! Don't eat nothing! They're just fake money! If this Casino was... like legitimate and I wasn't just taking chips from behind the counter, they'd be a highly regulated treasure among the players! Though maybe I've ruined the economy with all these... We can fix that if more people play."

Casey laughs and keeps making crazy betting choices.
