"But even Val seemed surprised that the short circuit wiped its memory. There was no way to know whether or not it would lose its memories, and as such no one could possibly use it as a murder weapon. Mitzi must've been electrocuted by the power box."

Tipping over the washtub would cause quite the ruckus, so although I can see how Mitzi could catch Val off guard, there's no way for a third party to catch them both by surprise without Val ever noticing."
