I know it's a huge stretch, but there may be a clue for how we all ended up in this mess."

Asher not-so-subtly glanced over at James with the most accusing look he could muster on his face.

"The only flaw in your logic, Bertram, is admittedly a shaky one," Zachary replied, scratching his chin, "But if these 'Witches' can kill four people with magic, then why would they have an independent killer who can go after a fifth person? Granted, it's possible Wyn killed the rest of them, but just couldn't touch you. It's also possible, like others have said, that you both are innocent and we're all just barking up the wrong tree . . . except for our culprit, who must be sitting here inwardly laughing to themselves watching us bicker towards nowhere."

"I don't believe there's an 'independent killer', so much as, whoever these villains are, they need to visit us in-person to work their villainy. I suppose that does rule out my earlier suggestion that they're poisoning people... but then, even I'm forced to concede that there's something strange about all this," Bertram said. "If Wyn can prove herself though then yes, I think you're right about the real culprits sitting back and laughing while we destroy ourselves. These are truly dark times."

"If I may speak, father, I feel as though I may know how many killers we are dealing with." Lucine politely raised her hand. "Grandmother always told me there were five witches of the golden land, one leader and four followers. I am not sure if the murderers we are dealing with are the real ones, but if they call themselves witches, they could be five just as the stories say."

"Mother did used to say that", Maurice mused. "I never believed her of course, since she sounded like a delusional old bat, but... I suppose it is worth considering", he conceded.

"Five of them... Much as I adored mother, I never took her wild stories about magic and witches very seriously. Now, though..." Bertram sighed, and looked out a window. "This storm does not seem natural to me. The cellar was full of strange things, not to mention, the bodies..." He turned back around to face the others. "If Lucine is right, this group, who- or whatever they are, have a leader who's personally responsible for targeting us. Going back to Zachary's point, this 'Golden Witch' likely visited all of the victims last night. I suppose that they are the one who I could, theoretically, find sneaking up to me, and who I could stop from killing me. Even then I doubt I'd realise what they were up to, though."

James laughed, "So you want to kill me for no reason? I think that's pretty suspicious, why are you so hellbent on killing someone? I think there are people who are far more suspicious than me. Would you back any random choice... even if it was Asher? I think the mere proposal of this idea is highly suspicious so I vote for Basil."

"Well, I always heard those stories that Auntie Gloria always tell us. I used to think that they're a bunch of nonsense and that there's no such thing as witches. But given what happened to Auntie Gloria and the others...." Vincent grimaced, thinking about the disturbing scene down in the cellar. "I'm more inclined to believe that those stories are true."

The musician then turns to Zach. "And, Zach, didn't you say something about Auntie Gloria's will, right?" Vincent commented as he got up from his seat. "If we can find Auntie Gloria's will, we might figure out exactly what we have gotten ourselves into..."

"It sounded like a bunch of nonsense at first, but... yeah. After all that happened, and the way their bodies were... were all there, in those positions... I'm sort of inclined to believe it as well," Asher elucidated.

"And I agree. Finding the will may help us out. Any idea where it would be?" he asked. Even though he was addressing everyone in the room, his narrowed eyes were fixed squarely on James.

“I want any of you assholes standing idly by to remember that any death that happens because you didn’t want to stain your conscience is on YOU!” Oh god, he was crying again. “Four people died today, don’t that mean anything? Don’t any of ya care? I really thought that horny butler and I had something—I could feel a connection, a kinship. And all of y’all don’t even give a fuck, you just want to find out how much money Meemah left you!”

He shook his head. “Nah. Fuck this ‘outta time’ bullshit. We’re voting while there’s a chance and I’m gonna do in the one person who still hasn’t answered me.” He said, glaring at Basil.

"We can't overlook the possibility that one of mother's own sons - one of my siblings - is a witch, I suppose," Bertram admitted sadly. "If there really are 5 of them, odds are that at least one is.

"Previously we used arguments like 'Zachary would never harm his wife' and 'Basil would never hurt Violet', but if the Golden Witch gets to make the call on who dies, then Basil or Zachary might well be a witch anyway, whose arguments against certain people dying were overruled by their leader. With that said, Basil's words and actions have made me uneasy for a good while now."

Basil looked incredulously at Bertram "Listen to yourself Bertram! Would you have been ANY different if little Lucine, or Jacqueline was down there smiling in the darkness!" He gestured wildly towards the ominous cellar door.

Basil straightened up and brushed down his suit. His voice calm once more "I won't deny I lost my temper earlier, but I think given the circumstances a little loss of composure is COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDABLE!"

“I wonder what Vi’s last thought before she died was.” Anyone who knew ‘Mickey’ since he was a child immediately recognized his smile as one to provoke a fight. “I’d be willing to bet it was about how she couldn’t recognize her family anymore. A lecherous father, and with him his new whore of a wife.”

"... You think I give a shit about the will or how much money she left us? I don't. I'm not James. It just may help in the investigation--"

Before he could go on another tangent, Basil spoke up... quite loudly, causing him to flinch. Asher's eye twitched just a bit at Mickey's words, but he managed to keep his composure for the most part. While he did agree with Mickey on some points, he felt he was taking it too far.

"... Father. The last thing you need to do is give into his taunting. So... don't," he simply stated to Basil, glancing between him and Mickey. "He's trying to goad you into it. Do yourself a favor and don't give in. ... It's the last thing we need right now."

Basil was livid "How DARE you!" He said placing an arm protectively around Wyn.

Then Asper spoke up from his side and Basil looked down at him and the rage in his eyes cooled. "Th-thank you son... I know...I'm sorry about before...I won't do that again."

He straightened up and turned back to Mickey "I don't know what's wrong with you that led you to be such a vile monster Mickey. I never had such a problem with you but this...this..." He shook with rage holding Wyns hand tightly to stop himself from lunging at Mickey.

"Are we voting simply based on crass taunts, then?" Maurice scoffed. "We need to keep our cool instead of accusing people as murderers and witches simply because of name-calling."

"...That being said, I can see why you were kicked out with that attitude", he addressed Mickey coldly.

"I would agree with sir Maurice here," Archer, who finally woke up- I mean, began speaking after being silent for a long period stepped forward.

"We're unsure what each of us are capable of, other than what Wyn and Master Bertram have told us. Choosing a target at random could shoot ourselves in the foot and cut off any chances we might have at fighting back against these... 'witches'.. And because of that, while I cannot agree with his actions, we must not let emotions control us."

"Would anyone like some tea to calm them down? Perhaps I should begin preparing dinner?" He looks over towards his master for approval.

Jacqueline took deep breaths to keep herself calm, getting lost into thought once more. People were retracting their vote for Bertram- she couldn't have been more relieved. But now people began to vote for Mickey. She felt so ill.

"Saying that Mickey is suspicious simply for interrupting the conversation is ridiculous. Look at me, I haven't said a word since you all have began to speak. Are you to just assume that I could possibly be innocent? I believe you all are getting quite . . . desperate. And I understand. I understand what this pressure must feel like. But don't. Don't you dare vote for my son."

She let out a shaky sigh, her tired eyes staring at the floor.

"I abstain."

Either killing or not killing was bad in their own ways, but Jacqueline couldn't do it. She couldn't feel responsible if the one she voted for were to die. She didn't want more bloodshed- but she had to face reality and realize that was inevitable.

Vincent turns to Archer once the butler mentioned dinner.

"Wait... Dinner? Christ, this discussion that we're engaged... It made us lose track of time, and we're still in our pajamas!" Vincent said, surprised by what time it is right now. "Maybe we should go change into our clothes before we can eat dinner? Auntie Gloria would want that, wouldn't she?"

"FUCKING CHRIST Bertram! I retracted my vote for you! You've got nothing on me and now that the heat is off you, you throw it back at me? You aren't even justifying it in anyway? How about you throw down some bloody reasoning first? At least I'm trying here!" Basil said incredulously

The Second Twilight

[THEME MUSIC]

The group agrees to eat dinner. As the dire bickering had gone on, most had ignored their need for food and such. It was time to take a much needed break.

Everyone decides to wait in the dining room for dinner. Rain beats against the massive stained glass window. A few people excuse themselves and go back to the rooms, leaving mostly in groups of two or three. James ignores any caution and leaves on his own. Asher does as well.

At some point Bertram and Wyn come back into the room, a stern look is on Bertram's face. He tells the others that he and Jackie went upstairs, but at some point she vanished, and he had already searched upstairs. Wyn can't find Basil either.

Asher and James still aren't back from their excursions either...

A little while later, James returns just as Archer is bringing out food for Dinner. James talks as though he hasn't seen anything in particular. Except that the outside door was open for some reason.

Zach suddenly points out of the window, out into the garden, under the garden gazebo, at the end of a connecting arcade...

[SCENE MUSIC]

Two people sit across from one another at a chess set. It's hard to tell through the stained glass, but it's Jackie and Asher. The young man and his aunt are eerily still.

"They're smiling."

Archer and Bertram begin walking to the garden door, through the library, when they spot someone else, seated in a large, leather chair.

There Basil is, his eyes distant and lifeless. The expression on his face an eerily stuck smile.

That makes three.

"Jackie . . . Asher . . . Basil . . . " Zachary muttered, his appetite completely destroyed after the discovery of the three new corpses.

"Yes, Bertram, I visited you again. You came back clean; you and Robin never visited each other, so you're not the killer at least," he explained, not wanting to beat around the bush.

"Z-Zilly?!" Wyn rushes towards the corpse of her husband. "This can't be happening...!" She cries out. "Asher too?!"

Vincent walked into the room, wearing his clothes. The musician was tying a part of his hair into a small ponytail.

"Yo, is dinner rea--" Vincent asked before he stopped midst-sentence as he noticed what was going on. "What the... Are you fucking kidding me?!"

He took a moment or two to register what have happened. "Asher... Jackie.... Even Cousin Basil!"

Archer lets out a deep breath.

"Forgive me, Master Bertram. I would love to offer you a drink right now, to help ease your mind... but I believe Milady Lucine takes priority."

Archer puts his hand in his pocket and takes out several little candies. He kneels over next to Lucine. "Shall we go back inside?" He asks in the softest voice he can manage.

"Not again... how could someone be this depraved?" James looked at the crime scene for a while and then decided to leave. In order to try and find evidence that could catch the killer, he decided to investigate the victims' rooms. The first room he investigated was Asher's then he went over to Basil's and then he concluded his investigation with Jacqueline's room.

Twilip is taken aback by the sight that greats her when she joins the growing crowd under the gazebo. She murmurs "Brother" as her gaze fixates on Basil's corpse while struggling to hold in the tears streaking across her face.

He looked at the others. "So I believe our fair lady is probably aligned with us now... not that that's a surprise, to any extent." He shook his head. "We should get looking for more clues. Did anybody else notice anything of value during all this?"
