"I threw away the key, Private!" Mao shouted out. "And before you accuse me of lying, really think about what I would do in this situation."

He pulled Mei closer to him, hugging her tightly. There was no reason to panic, he still had this ace up his sleeve. "You remember learning about mutually assured destruction, Private? Then keep your same distance away from the watchtower--we can still talk about this like men. I don't want this to get ugly any more than you do."

Consider it a tactical retreat if you have to but please! Think of Suyin! Don't you want to see her again!" she tried to shout but it came out more of a whimper.

The route to the entrance gate is a long, open field with no cover in sight. The group realizes that attempting to cross it would be a dangerous decision.

“We can’t safely get to the entrance like this,” Mao explains, “Our only option is to head up.”

He points to the Guard Tower nearby. A spiral staircase leads to the top, enclosed in rotting wooden panels. Other than some windows, the room at the top appears to be safe. Without time to argue, the group heads for the stairs.

As they enter, they spot a large safe sitting on the floor. An eight-letter combination is needed to open it. Amandi gets the feeling that there’s something hidden inside, but the group will have to be very vigilant if they want to claim it.

Juanli also ran away to the Guard Tower when she ran, so it works. Also the hammer got shot out of her hands or something idk.

The group quickly climbs the stairs and reaches the top of the building. They find themselves in a small security station, containing a desk with two computers, two large cabinets, and the hatch they just entered from. One wall of the tower is covered in scaffolding, as the building was clearly in the process of being repaired. Two wide windows on opposing sides look out into the courtyard.

As the group is looking around, two bullets zoom through the window and bury themselves in the wall. Mao immediately hits the deck, dragging Mei with him. Amandi, Juanli, and Fujisaki do the same.

“We should cover up those windows in order to look around,” Amandi suggests, “Can we move those large cabinets in front of them?”

“Doesn’t look like it,” Juanli replies, “The wheels have locks on them. One has a blue lock and the other has a green lock, and it looks like they both need an alphabetical code.”

Amandi spots a puzzle on the ceiling.

“Perhaps that’s where we should begin our search,” he says, “It’s time to…”

The Guard Tower:

Outside the building, Taikong begins charging his special move. The group will have to hurry, or they may end up suffering the embarrassment of a Bad End!

"The rat has only fooled the ox once... never again." Mao mumbled to himself.

He then turned to Juanli. "I'm going to explain it very carefully--the soldier over there is Cat, or at least working with him. How else did he find those guns? And what do you think he's going to do once we give him the one thing he wants? He already set up a death game, he'll have no concern with killing us all once there's no risk."

He shook his head. "Right now this girl is our only leverage. So we can release her--after he destroys the guns... assuming we don't find anything for our fight in here."

Mao peeks his head very briefly up to get a view of the courtyard through the windows.

Mao doesn't see anything of note in the courtyard unfortunately, that would have been cool if I'd thought to do that. However, the Palace of the Sun looks pretty cool even with the numerous scars in its roof. Taikong looks like a little goober all the way down there, but he's a dangerous goober with his guns and also he has bombs and grenades now apparently.

Mao ducks back down after Taikong shoots at him.

Juanli rolled her eyes, Mao's rapid changing of story had cost him what last shred of credibility he had in her eyes. "It's no wonder the War is in the state it's in. Out of the way!" She pushes the aging General aside to finish the sudoku.

Mao rolled his eyes at Mei's statement, rubbing the top of his hair sadly. "Either you're Cat and you told him where the guns are or he is--I don't care about the difference at this point. All I do know is that these handcuffs have given this group the only leverage we have right now--so get used to my esteemed company."

Mao kicks the hatch closed in case there's something on the top, and begins considering the puzzle.

The wheel locks come off. Pushing the cabinets from the ground, the group manages to push them in front of both windows so they can effectively take cover behind them.

Everyone stands up, now able to examine the rest of the room.

Wuh-oh! Looks like both of the cabinets are locked! One has a simple keyhole, but the other requires a five-number code.

The group also notices that the boards near one of the cabinets are particularly flimsy, though they'd need a strong weapon to break them. They appear to lead to metal scaffolding outside.

A lot have happened due to Dr. Uwem's player being asleep at the time, so there wasn't much he could do in the meantime.

"Seriously, Mao. I don't believe Mei is Cat! And now Taikong is trying to kill us! What the hell are you thinking, Mao?!" Dr. Uwem shouted at Mao. Though, his life was now on the line...

The doctor looks at the flimsy boards. "I doubt my cane is strong enough to break down the boards here..." He whacked the boards with his cane to prove the point.

Sadly, Fujisaki doesn't find anything on the floor except for the hatch they left from.

Amandi types the code into the cabinet and it opens. Inside, he discovers a large steel hammer with a white 2 on the front. It appears to be the sequel to the original hammer. There's also a bulletproof vest lying on the bottom of the cabinet.

Amandi is unable to pull the bullets out of the wall; however, he notices something strange. Carved into the end of the bullets are two letters—O and Y.

Meanwhile, Fujisaki slams the second hammer through the wall. Several wooden boards fly forth from the top of the tower. One heads straight for Taikong's head, but he spot-dodges it.

Destroying the wall reveals a path out to the scaffolding. Fujisaki can see a key hanging from a steel pole off to the right. However, grabbing it would mean stepping out into the open, right into Taikong's line of sight...

There's nothing behind the desk.

Fujisaki steps out onto the balcony and makes eye contact with Taikong. The key is off to his right, dangling over a large drop. There's no way he can grab it without taking his eyes off Taikong. The young soldier grips his gun tightly as the two stare each other down. Fujisaki needs to consider his next move carefully...

Sun Taikong kept his gun trained on Fujisaki as he walked out. Seeing as how it wasn't Mao, he was actually ready to leave him be, maybe fire a warning shot if he lingered... but then Fujisaki made to attack him. Quickly retaliating, he fired a barrage of bullets up at the scaffolding.

The metal pole hits the ground in front of Taikong, jamming uselessly into the ground. Taikong's barrage does a better job of hitting its mark, with Fujisaki taking two bullets—one in his abdomen and one in his leg. He stumbles down the scaffolding, reaching up blindly as he collapses backwards. He grabs the key with his hand and pulls it off, falling dramatically down the Guard Tower to his death.

BAD END

A strange look crosses Mei's face.

"Shit! Mao, we gotta move!"

She launches toward the scaffolding just as the bullets crash into Fujisaki and grabs his arm. She pulls him back onto the platform just as he grabs the key, then yanks him back into the Guard Tower.

Small amounts of blood pool on the floor beneath Fujisaki's chest, but it seems like he could recover with treatment. The key lies underneath his limp hands. Mei spots two letters written on a piece of white tape on its head—B and P.

"What the hell were you thinking, Fujisaki?!" Dr. Uwem shouted as he rushs to tend to the man's injury. "Uh, did anyone remembers to collect the medic bag? I'll need it to tends to the injury that this idiot sustained."

He take the key from Fujisaki's hands and held it out for someone to take. "In the meantime, why don't one of you open the cabinet with this key?"

Mei opens the cabinet. Inside, bulletproof vests are hung up on the mantle, along with a blunderbuss and a few grenades—though none of the weapons seem that useful against an armed Taikong.

“Well, with these weapons we might at least stand a chance against Taikong,” Mao says, “We should be able to head back downstairs.”

“Speaking of which...where is he?” Juanli asks.

The group notices that Taikong is no longer outside. Mao opens the hatch in the floor and peers over the railing. He spots Taikong laying C4 at the bottom of the tower.

“He’s going to blow this tower to the ground!” Mao shouts.

“Perhaps we just need to send you down to, err...reason with him,” Juanli suggests.

“Reason?” Fujisaki shouts, “He just shot me!”

“Exactly. There has to be another way out of here,” Mao mumbles.

He gazes solemnly out the window and notices another guard tower whose top has been obliterated by an explosion, resulting in a massive charred opening on the side facing the group. However, it’s spiral staircase is surrounded by steel on all sides, and thus more heavily defended. Additionally, a hatch over the desk seems to lead up to the roof.

But the distance across is great. Can they make it?

"Hold on, we should take a look at the grenades. One of the images on the safe is a grenade, so..." Dr. Uwem said, although he was still tending to Fujisaki's injury, so someone will have to take a look at the grenades the doctor mentioned.
