The point is, it was inferred that Edgey DID use false evidence, but not THEN. Or even if he didn't, he still made the witnesses withold evidence, which is pretty much the same thing.

It doesn't matter when it happened, the fact is, Edgeworth didn't know he used it, and Phoenix knew that he didn't mean to. I would think Edgeworth would know Phoenix well enough to realize that Phoenix wouldn't have intentionally used false evidence.

Also, making witnesses withhold information is apparently not illegal, since witnesses have a right not to testify and perjury doesn't seem to exist.

I always thought it was wierd, witnesses can lie over and over again but if you present a few incorrect/false evidences you get ****ed.

Also, anything you say on the witness stand is grounds to have you pronounced guilty for the crime being discussed. Taking the old "anything you say can be used against you in the court of law" and pushing it to the extreme, with this courtroom and at this exact moment. Even if the crime being discussed 20 years old and barely related to the case the defendant is accused of.

Not to mention, a single judge presides over just about every single case. And his verdict doesn't need to be based on reasonable doubt, or anything reasonable at all! If the Judge wasn't so lovably Santa-like, a single person with that kind of legal power would be terrifying.

Keep in mind though that Phoenix isn't just a witness, he's council. Edgeworth DID get in big trouble for presenting forged evidence, but dodged getting fired because he didn't know it was fake at the time.

Spoiler:
Phoenix was foolish enough to confess to the crime in open court. And not only was the evidence fake, it implicated an innocent man. Add that to the fact that he was judged by a group of his peers - other lawyers - it makes even more sense that he was thrown out. What lawyer, prosecutor and defense attorney alike, wouldn't want to get rid of the famous Phoenix Wright?
