I'm annoyed at the fact that we haven't gotten any news about Pandora's Box's international release. I'm pretty sure they're going to release it internationally (I mean, they wouldn't have put that thing about it in Curious Village if they weren't). I mean, we have almost no info (if not no info) about it's release, and The Last Time Travel is coming out in Japan soon! T_T

I just finished the game the other day and I've gotta say... WOW. O_O Twas amazing. I mean, I was like, "Is this a US game?" I seriously thought it wasn't from Japan because of the European-style music, graphics, and such. That is, until I started reading up on it myself. Being on Summer vacation, I haven't gotten the opportunity to think much (or it's more like I don't WANT to) but Professor Layton is such a fun game that even the mathematical ones had me brainstorming for a while, wanting to prove myself. :hobohodo: My favorite varieties of puzzles are the ones of arranging the queens on the chessboard (I still haven't beaten the one on Layton's Challenges though) and the measuring cup arranging (that one with the "8 liters in the 16 and 9-liter cups" made me feel smarticle when I solved it on paper without using hints =D).

And Professor Layton and Luke are both amazing characters. I have joined the legion of fangirls that worship him :3 I mean, he's such a gentleman. :edgy:

... ME WANT SEQUEL!

Thread Necromancy! Bwahaha.

Anyways, still no word on Professor Layton 2 in the West, but that doesn't mean Japan hasn't got Professor Layton 3 yet. Here's a link I found from A GoNintendo Article showing off some new screens.

I heard the Japanese version of 2 is "Professor Layton and the Devil's Box".
The storyline of 1 (well the ending twist anyway) seemed rather anime like to me
Spoiler:
(Astro Boy or Metropolis maybe?)

I hated those puzzles with the chessboard AAARGGGHH :(

Swordfighting? Wow, I didnt know that.
I didnt know of the title change, I always read it as Devil's Box on IGN, this could be an even darker game, I think the "mystery" aspect of Prof. Layton intrigued me more than the puzzles though, although I liked them, some made me tear my hair out :D

So, questions.

1. Does anything actually happen when you get a lot of picarats? I think the manual said something about "something good happening", but I didn't notice anything.

2. Is the last weekly puzzle the lightbulb wire one? I haven't been able to download any new ones since then.

You get it from the second game, which hasn't been released outside of Japan yet. Whether the game just gives it to you or you have to unlock it, I can't say, but I'm leaning towards the latter.

I would of thought theyd be going for a Christmas release for Professor Layton 2 but has a release date been announced yet?

It doesn't have spoilers fro PL2 & it hasn't actually been announced in english, but a lot of evidence sggests that it will.

Uh, what evidence is that? Honestly I'd love to hear anything that supports Professor Layton 2. I remember that the reviews were outstanding for Professor Layton when it was released in the US, but I don't remember anything about the sales. Level-5 has been very mum about Pandora's Box. Nothing's been said from any interviews I recall, then again, I don't recall anyone asking about Pandora's Box.

Also, I would take the material at the end of Curious Village with a Grain of salt. Remember, Professor Layton is a Japanese product first and foremost. What you've got there is a localization of the confirmation of a Japanese release of Pandora's Box.

Sufficed to say, we can rest assured that Japan got Pandora's Box and are well on their way to the Last Time Travel

Doing a little research, it seems Layton was the top selling game for the DS in the US in its first three weeks of sales.
Here and here.
I'm not sure if that entitles it for an English sequel, though... :/

Yea, Layton is apparently in a swordfight against a vampire. Epic! 0.0

The Hidden Door password is actually very interesting. See, you can't get in (besides hacking the game) unless you have a copy of Layton 2. It's specially encrypted so that the password is a mixed code of the game (layton 1) you have, and your DS. As for the instruction booklet, I believe it says "The instructions booklet in Layton 2 will tell you how to get the password. Not the password period. but I could be wrong about that last bit. >.>

Couldn't resist. :]

I went on a faving spree on dA for Luke fanart ... lol. Apparently older Luke is known as legal!Luke.

wtf, I know. :[ But I guess it's not surprising ... and hey, older Luke looks nice anyway ... lol.

I think I read some possible spoilers (well, actually it's fan speculation) but I kind of wonder .. hmm.

Anyway, can't afford to read more spoilers. :x We don't have Devil's Box/Pandora's Box yet .... lol.

Off topic: Gee, I'm glad Nintendo is porting Mario Tennis and Pikmin to the Wii. It's not like you can't just pick up the GameCube versions for $10-$20 or anything. Oh, wait...

All the good stuff is only announced for Japan thus far, of course.

On topic: Nobody answered either of my questions yet... :sadshoe:
