Nothing's ready except the media files!

Haha, just kidding. No, I'm just trying to solve a few problems right now.

So, just wondering, is this gonna take some days? Just wanna know :)

I HAVE to release it by tomorrow since I'm entering this as my entry into an NDS homebrew competition. So you can probably see this coming out by tomorrow. I'll post links here, won't be first thing in the morning since I probably will have to go somewhere anyways.

Hope you don't mind B12Core.

Found this googling "B12Core", Ace Attorney DS: http://www.neoflash.com/forum/index.php ... 557.0.html

Quote:

Installation: Explained in the thread
Description: Anime Image Game Engine
============================================================================

Ace Attorney DS

DESCRIPTION

This application is an "Anime Image Game Engine". It is used to create and manipulate scenes to form a script in which the player can delve into. I have added extra support with this application, to support the emulation of the game "Phoenix Wright : Ace Attorney". This genre of game involves a protagonist Defense Attorney whom helps defend his clients through finding out information during interrogation, examining crime scenes, moving from location to location, presenting evidence to suspects and witnesses and proving testimony in court as false.

Ace Attorney DS reads from .ini files which fill in variables needed for the case to run. This engine, or in other words "Casemaker", comes with 113 profile sprites, 280 evidence sprites, 99 maps and 941 animations (pre-scripted for you, from Phoenix Wright : Ace Attorney and Phoenix Wright : Justice For All). Using these resources and the knowledge of the .ini functions, you can basically re-create a Phoenix Wright game, with your own custom plot, characters, evidence/profiles, maps/collision maps, and music. Don't feel limited to only being able to make Phoenix Wright games, this is an Anime Image Game Engine with unlimited possibilities if you have ideas. A fanfiction can be played out, for instance, through this application with the necessary sprites and script. Simply put, Ace Attorney DS is a game-maker.

I also realize that many of you may or may not be familiar of Phoenix Wright games and their genre. That is why I have included several tutorials on how to use this application to its fullest capabilities and learn how to create your own games or visual novels using the engine. It can take a long time to go through every single tutorial, so I'm asking if it's possible that you guys may not judge the book by its cover and flip through the tutorials, learning how the application works. Thank you very much!

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

1. Simply place Ace Attorney DS.nds and the AADS folder into the root of your flash card.
2. Boot the ROM from whatever firmware you may be using and enjoy!

HOW TO USE

In the separate folder on the root of your flash card, named AADS, there are several folders inside. Navigate to AADS/cases/caseselection.ini and you will be able to see the case selection list used to determine the amount of cases and the folders the ROM should look for to start the cases. If you move further in, at AADS/cases/ini, there are several folders containing .ini files that the ROM reads. These .ini files are the basis of cases, and are used to define variables required by the casemaker to run. If you start the ROM up on hardware, you can begin take the tutorials (there are 30) to learn how to use the functions that are readable by the .ini files. Have fun!

MISC.

The application has DSMotion support. If you're wondering how, you can browse through the court record by tilting the DS in several directions. Also, you can press Start to save the game and suspend play.
I'm also asking if it's possible that my GUI not be ripped since I made most of the entire GUI used in the ROM.

EXAMPLES OF USAGE
+ Fanfictions
+ Ace Attorney-based games
+ Visual thriller novels (such as Hotel Dusk)
+ Plot-based video games

Peter

AIGE means Anime Image Game Engine, and it is a Visual Novel Engine (one of its sections). There's no such thing as Anime Image Game Engine. He is deliberately stealing the name to try to get more users searching for "Anime Image Game Engine".

Be honest.

I'm sorry, but this is big. I wouldn't be posting here if it wasn't important. This isn't even related to casemaking, this is above this line. He did it, I we can't hide what ever it is.

I didn't know you made AIGE, I thought it was just a plugin used for the playing of PWLib. I'm sorry KSA, was a small mistake. I know you take things like this very seriously. I can simply just rename it for Visual Novel Engine or something around the lines.

I just needed something more generic than 'casemaker'.

EDIT: Changed it to "Visual Novel Engine". Also added the wiki link, great example on how it can be used as a DS app, thanks KSA.

ALSO: Some screenshots.

Yeah I don't mind. You actually saved me the trouble for me to have to post it myself :p

That's the FAT DS version though. It will not work on computers. I'll release a fully organized EFS version by Monday (I spent all March break coding this, so I need to review my studies before I can get back to coding).

B12Core, I know you're lying about what you just posted, mostly because we discussed many things about AIGE implementations here in this topic. I don't want to really enter the reality here of such facts, but what you did as deliberately a miss of ethics and honor, greatly enhanced by the fact you're denying it now so bluntly.

Not even Mecha did such things, so I think that you must really rethink your actions and respect other developers' work properly when it comes to naming. I never really expected you to go so low, but I think I was wrong. So please, try to be honest with yourself at first.

So, if you hate me for what ever reasons, keep it to yourself. I don't want to have to come here and find out that you got that, copied the name X or any other low tactics. I decided to not have any care for AADS or you just to avoid issues, so don't try to make me resume my wrong old ways. I was wrong, now I changed.

Let's keep CR now peaceful and in top of all, an honest place.

And Peter:

No matter what someone provides you, if it is amazing at your eyes, you must see what is there and respect basing on it too.

Alright.

And just a clarification. I honestly did not know AIGE was made by you. I don't really read/remember posts that much, but I don't remember reading a lot, if anything, about AIGE in this thread. Even your signature says "for Anime Image Game Engine". I thought it was an external engine used with PWLib.

But yeah, problem solved.

Just putted the Ace Attorney DS directory on my M3 simply card and it runs but when it comes up with the settings at the start it doesn't respond to clicking on the play button nor does it respond to the buttons on the DS? I can run it in no$gba and get past it though but after that I can't run a "case"... :/

Don't use no$gba since it doesn't have FAT support.

What probably happened is because M3 Simply does not have auto-DLDI. You'll need to manually patch the ROM yourself, or I'll repost a new ROM for you.

EDIT :

That's M3 Simply's v1.06 firmware which should auto-DLDI patch the ROM.

Hmm gets even stranger, with that options.sav in AADS/cases/sav it boots without asking to create a save file but I still get the setting option and still can't pass it :S I never had any trouble with the test demo's you released.

Just unrarred it again, put the OPTIONS.SAV in AADS/cases/sav and put it on my M3 Simply with the firmware you gave, but unfortunatly I still have the same problem. Didn't do anything wrong for sure. Maybe you could rar the one that works for you, if it's not too much of a hassle? If that doesn't work it's clearly something else that's causing it.

CycloDS is a very advanced card. I have a very basic R4TF, yet I am able to run every tutorial perfectly fine. I have never crashed before while using AADS. I don't understand why CycloDS would ever have this issue, but I'm going to ask if you can continue trying to work with it. I still don't understand why it could possibly be glitching.

When I first tried it, I had exactly the same problem as Ceres.

Then I formatted my card to FAT (instead of FAT32), re-copied the files to the card, and now it works :)

This is very promising, good job B12Core ;)
The lower screen is just a little buggy (there's a black line that appears for half a second everytime you go to the next line of dialog, but that's no big deal).

So thanks for your hard work, and if you ever feel like releasing a FAT32 compatible version, that would be great :)

EDIT : I also corrected the french ini, I'm French and some things didn't sound right.
Here is mine, if anyone wants it :

My card is already FAT but I will try formatting it again and see if it works.

Questions:

1) Why is the UI the GK UI? Is there an option to switch it to the GS UI?
2) Why is the namebox red? It should be blue -_-U
3) I have a not-clone R4DS, and a FAT32 formatted MicroSD card. Will this work on my DS?
4) If not, will it at least work in No$GBA (2.6a)?
5) If not, how can I at least run this?

Also, what's the actual "AADS Download Link", because there are too many links around, and I don't know where to click.

I am able to use it. So are several other testers (I have confirmed).

DeMatador, I have this working with my R4TF. The reason why Peter and GolfDude probably don't have it working is because their cards don't auto-DLDI patch the ROM so when they run it, it does not or is functioning horrible with libFAT.

I will show a video later on it working on my R4, it works perfectly fine. I wouldn't have released this if it was glitchy.

1. I'll make an option for that later.
2. To fit the GK skin.
3. I have an R4TF (same thing as R4DS), so it SHOULD work.
4. It will not work on no$gba, I'm working on an EFS version for it.
5. It will eventually work on no$gba, I have it working on there already.

DeMatador, the official download link is:
http://www.mediafire.com/?invnoymml4z

1. Place the .7z file onto your flash drive.
2. Extract.
3. You should be able to play it.

Please tell me whether or not you get it working. However, it should, considering I have the same card as you.

ALSO: Peter and GolfDude, this is how my flash drive is set up:

E:\Ace Attorney DS.nds
E:\AADS

PLEASE TELL ME WHETHER OR NOT YOU HEAR MUSIC WHEN IT STARTS UP. THE MUSIC PLAYING DETERMINES WHETHER OR NOT LIBFAT HAS BEEN INITIATED.

If libFAT has not been initiated, you NEED to patch the ROM with the DLDI file allocated by your flashcard's firmware.

Download DLDIrc and patch it using CycloDS.dldi and M3Simply.dldi

Okay. I set it up exactly as you said. J:\AADS and J:\AADS.nds. My cyclo opens it and I hear a nice remix of Maya's theme. I am able to slide the sliders around, and if I hit the |> button, nothing happens for several seconds, and then it goes to the game/museum/option settings. If I click on option, I cannot get back out, but I can adjust the sliders. It freezes, but the music keeps on playing. If I hit museum, nothing happens at all.If I click game, I get a black screen, and my entire cyclo freezes (I can't do a soft reset). :zennybw: Wonder what is going wrong...

Awesome, it works! Formatted it back to FAT, put the files in the root and patched it. Now it works :) Sorry for being stupid ;) I think putting the files in the root made it work tbh, cause it should be auto-patched anyways. Thanks B12Core, gonna check it out now!

Actually, though I can access the menu, all the cases/tutorials, and hear the music, the game tends to crash, a lot.
It's always at a different moment, so it can't be because of a particular file, I guess it's just not stable on my card yet (M3DS Real, though I also tried launching it on M3Sakura with DSOrganize).

Haven't crashed here once on my M3 Simply with 2GB Micro SD card which is FAT formatted. I have a DS Lite btw.

It really looks awesome B12Core, can't believe you actually created this and it works on the Nintendo DS :D I really hope people will make cases for it :)

Few notes though:

- When you want to play a case/tutorial you have to click start. Why not on the namebox itself?
- When asked if you want to read a tutorial again and you click yes/no the boxes don't flicker
- The sound when someone is talking, it sounds different to me than in the original games. Just a bit, it sounds.. louder? Harsher maybe? Have the same with the menu click sound of the gavel. That one is the same for sure but it sounds louder/harsher.
- When you click the play button for the next dialog it shows a black line for a second

That's all so far, don't take it the wrong way it's just some points to improve this. I'm really enthusiastic about this project :) Do you tend to continue working on this and create updated versions?
