Morally, letting Light off the hook would've been bad no matter what country you're from. I didn't feel sorry for Ryuzaki simply because he kept hesitating when he shouldn't have. When Misa found out his name that was his best chance to take down both of them at the same time but he settled for Misa. The only reason he survived that was knowing the safest place for him was being very close to Light XD
Near's a prick as far as I'm concerned. He spends a crapload of time talking about how he could've solved everything from the get-go yet he waits until Light/Kira picks up a fairly stong group of followers to act. At least Ryuzaki knew Light was Kira from the begining =D
I didn't use spoiler tags simply because the viewer knows from the get-go Light is Kira and vice versa.

I wouldn't say the BEST suspense/thriller/cat-and-mouse story, but in anime and manga, then yes.
If they really wanted to build up suspense, the identity of Kira shouldn't have been revealed until
and clues would be dropped towards a bunch of people, making the viewers draw their own conclusions as to who Kira is.

That's what happened with me but I watched after Near took over the investigation. I'm not watching the reruns to see how it was he ended up leading the Kira Case.

Put simply, Kira, or at least, the concept of Kira, is justified and benevolent. The true evil, however, is Light Yagami. While he may be acting out what are in some way good deeds, he's doing them for all the wrong reasons. He kills for personal glory, to feed his messiah complex. A good way to put this in context is with Lelouch vi Britannia of Code Geass. He genuinely doesn't like to kill, he does it for the goal. And he truly believes in the goal, as

As for L, I really have nothing to comment on. He's just as manipulative as Kira, just with a different background. You could sum him up in one sentence: He likes puzzles and games. I'm a fan of him, yes, but he's too upfront and simple for me to say anything. Watari, however, is strange. I can't really describe his personality;

Agreed.
Both movies were on, so DN1 was before Last Name. I think that's what got me into it. And yes, Ryuk is the best character, next to L and Light.

I've NEVER read the manga but the cover arts from what I've seen look AWESOME & I'm planning on picking up the 2 DN novels soon, epecially L: Change The World since the movie it was based plus the other 2 LA Death Note movies look like shit in comparison).
I really liked Light AS A VILLAIN NOT AN ANTI-HERO YA FANBOYS & L & Near were possibly my 2 favorite characters throughout the whole story.

My first proper anime besides yu gi oh when i was little.
Light my Fave Character followed by L and Mikami. I found Mikami really funny in the anime when thy played the classical music to his "Delete"
I Love Matt. One of the best death scene! The anime final was AMAZING, the did it perfectly. The Manga ending left it on a good conclusion and a cliff hanger. THAT GIRL WAS NOT MISA!

Yes "Mu" or "nothingness"
Mia didn't apper in the Final chapter. Obata the guy who made it said that he wante it to fiinish on 108 chapters. Therefore couldn't fit Misa in.
Also Death note is awesome. My first anime and always willbe my favorite. The only thing i don't like in the Anime is the footmassage and how they got the ending wrong.
The anime ending was really well done though desipite the massive plot hole it was just awesome and made me cry
