From Cheat Code Central:

Quote:
Today, a teaser site labeled in the URL as a “newrpg” was launched by SEGA Japan.

Web surfers who click over to the site are greeted by a black screen, anime-like silhouettes, and a large white helm used for steering a boat – or possibly an airship.

That’s what fans of the Skies of Arcadia franchise are hoping anyway. Certainly from the teased images on the site it seems as though Skies of Arcadia 2 may in fact be a real possibility. We will find out for sure when August 20th rolls around, as the site pinpoints that date for the reveal.

Stay tuned for confirmation.

This had better be Skies of Arcadia 2!!!!!

Oh. If it's SoA2, that'll give me incentive to buy SoA.

...And by the time I finish it, I'll probably be able to get SoA2 for 5 bucks :3

I really hope it's the sequel to SoA too...

It would be awesome if it was the sequel to SoA, but I'm not going to get my hopes up. We're promised a sequel every few years and it never happens. That little teaser in the link looks intriguing, but I don't know. Unless I see some hard evidence (god I'm too obsessed with PW) that a sequel to SoA is going to be made, I won't believe it But my god if it is the sequel, I will climb on my roof and scream with elation

And yes, Bad Player, you should buy SoA for the reason Ping' listed. Plus, it's one of the best/most creative RPGs ever, IMHO.

Oh, I'm going to get it eventually. I just have a bunch of other games I actually have that I need to finish. So I'll spend my money on it when I'm actually going to use it >_>

Yea-no. Glittery perfect scores of "one of the most memorable _________s EVER" etc. don't hold up too well. That's generally been a turnoff for me because the games that have this recommendation generally suck (see Chrono Trigger). I'd watch some gameplay videos before you even consider renting it, much less buying it.

Valkyria Chronicles is one of the best JRPGs this gen and is a sega game.

You have no taste. If you think CT is bad I want to see what you consider a good jrpg. I'm not saying it's wrong to dislike it, just that It's a very high quality rpg, considered one of the best ever made, and you say it sucks. I want to see some reasoning behind this. (Not to mention I'm a fanboy and you just insulted my favorite game)

Also, your sig is incorrect. It's "dumber", or "more stupid" not stupider. Stupider makes you sound, well, stupid.

And checking an actual dictionary, there is no mention of "Stupider" as a derivative of Stupid. From -

http://en.allexperts.com/q/General-Writ ... upider.htm

Quote:
The preferred way of expressing this idea is "more stupid."

"The Heath Handbook" has a list of the preferred comparative and superlative forms of adjectives and adverbs. The handbook's rule of thumb is that, if a word is one syllable, use "er" and "est," as in "tall, taller, and tallest."

But . . . "Many adjectives of two syllables and all longer adjectives form the comparative and superlative by adding "more" and "most."

Examples: alert more alert most alert
ambitious more ambitious most ambitious

I suppose your friend would choose "alerter" and "alertest," but he would be in a "peculiar" minority.

Have him try to pronounce "ambitiouser" and "ambitiousest."

You are permitted to chuckle as he struggles.

Just because its been used so much that its become a part of the English language, that doesn't stop the fact you sound like an uneducated hick when saying "stupider" as opposed to the proper terms.

Also, you have yet to answer me concerning what you think a good JRPG is if you think CT sucks, and why you would say such a highly praised and revered game is bad. I want to hear an explanation here.

You know, I'm sure it was good when it was first released on the SNES. But it doesn't translate to the holy relic that most reviewers make it out to be. I just found that it'd been done before and after, and better in some cases. I mean I understand you can only do so much after some 19 years of JRPGs with relations to story, so I didn't find it to be ludicrously innovative.

A good JRPG? Hmm... depends on what you want from me, if were talking classics I would FF7 (shocker there) or Breath of Fire 3. The latter's major issue being it can become fairly easy around a certain level of your character. I personally like the gameplay mechanics that BoF3 implemented, the Dragon Gene system is pretty interesting.

Another great one was Legend of Mana, probably one of the more open ended games I've played, the story progression system was completely non-linear. It had a fairly good replayability value, and it had New Game Plus, a must have in my opinion for RPGs. The partner system wasn't unique, but the battle system strayed from Turn Based Combat. Plus the graphics are not bad for a PSX game despite being 2-D.

If were talking more modern I'd recommend the gem that is Dark Cloud 2 (Dark Chronicle in Japan). It was kind of a sleeper game, and never really got much coverage (I stumbled on it perchance while looking at Sim City 4 on Gamespot), but it really is great. The story and mechanics are great, and the music and graphics are beautiful. Interesting tidbit, Time Travel plays a part in this game too. Plus it's by Level 5, the people responsible for games like Layton.

So there. I just don't see why people foam at the mouth for CT. But those are just a few excellent games off the top of my head.

And you posted rpgs that I don't understand/agree with why they're so highly praised. FFVII is essentially FFVI in 3D, with a bland villain and some mediocre characters. It was in no way revolutionary, and yet it's praised as the best game of all time next to OoT. I personally find it hilariously overrated as I don't think its even the best game in its series, much less the best rpg ever. I also find Seiken Densetsu 3 superior to legend of mana within that series. :butzthumbs: on BoF III though.

To each their own I guess. And before anyone jumps at me for saying something like that about the "holy grail" of FFVII, I'll post what I think some of the best rpgs of all time are.

Spoiler: RPGs I consider superior to VII
Planescape: Torment
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
Final Fantasy Tactics
Chrono Trigger
Dragon Quest V
Baldur's Gate 2
Mother 3
Fallout 2
Star Wars: Knights of the old Republic

I avoided double-dipping in any series, although I could have particularly in the case of DQ,FF, and MegaTen.

If we want to continue this much longer perhaps a new thread would work well.

I just personally like it because it was one of my early forays into the RPG world, (and hey when your like 9 what does it matter?). Personally it's not the greatest game ever but it's still pretty good. As with OoT, I honestly think Twilight Princess, and VERY MUCH Majora's Mask are two better installments into the series, despite the fact that both could've been twice as long.

I didn't play it till afters its prime (Same with CT actually) and thoroughly enjoyed it, but went back to play it again after becoming more acquainted with the RPG genre and came back a bit dissapointed (Although I still enjoy it, it just doesn't seem as great to me anymore). My first forays into the RPG genre were SaGa 2, Final Fantasy IV, And pokemon :will:

Want me to make a thread anyways? "Popular games you think are overrated" or something like that?

Just a warning, but these kinds of topics (we've had a few in the past) always get locked due to them usually degenerating into flame wars. So no, I wouldn't bother making it if I were you.

So...nothing to see here folks, move along.

Spoiler:
For those interested, the site hasn't revealed what the new rpg is yet, but the silhouettes on the site completely match the characters seen in the new scans of psp2.
