"I see two paths before us. Both ways lie madness, yet one is correct..." Keri said vaguely, staring at Jack.

"In one, Mitzi, dishevelled and already with a broken IV stand, stows away on a whale, escapes, and then simply... lies there, until Jack finds her and she immediately attacks. Jack backs away, closes his eyes and holds up electrical wires, only to hear... nothing. Not even the sound of electrocution, Mitzi screaming, nothing at all. And when he opens his eyes again, Mitzi is lying away from him, electrocuted. He is a murderer, and the world is... strange."

"In the other, Mitzi is already dead. Her IV stand is bent as a result of a fight, she is dishevelled after being carried around and having her body hidden in a whale. Jack finds her, dead, and hallucinates her getting up and attacking him, just as she did when she killed Abby. He backs away from the illusion, holds up wires and closes his eyes, and in doing so the illusion ceases to exist. When he opens his eyes again, Mitzi is lying where he first found her, still dead, but he is afraid he killed her. But he did not, and the murderer... is someone else. This is, I believe, the true path."

A proud smirk crept over her face as she confidently folded her arms. "Hmph, and you guys thought I was dumb for suggesting it..."

"One thing comes to mind, Mitzi did not leave the whale until after 10:30. She did not get on the whale until around 10:15 to 10:20 at the very latest, as that is when Florian and Irene set off. Therefore she was inside for at least 10 minutes. However, she cannot survive without her IV fluid: just 5 minutes without it and she would perish. I think it would be difficult to set up her IV in such a position, the best she could do would be to fold the stand in half and keep the top half vertical such that the IV bag remains elevated. But that strikes me as very risky... all for an escape that does not even seem necessary."

"We have said before that there did not seem to be much time for everything to have happened... so maybe the killer simply hid her there, waited for everyone to leave, and then set up everything afterwards. It would be then that they used Mitzi's IV stand to block the door the right sauna."

"I mean, what would've happened if one of them was a killer and they didn't sink the whale? Maybe they were hoping the flood would carry her away from the whale and to a completely different area. But keeping the corpse in there while riding to some destination safely would make everyone know the murder happened at the sauna."

"Okay, fine. Maybe my alibi isn't the best. But here's the thing."
Suddenly, he reaches into the sound hole of his lute. When his hand comes out, he's brandishing a steak knife. The blank stare of his mask coupled with the knife make for quite the image.
"I had a knife. Why would I go through all this trouble, including gambling on Val's memory being wiped by water damage, if I could just stab Mitzi?"
His hand begins to shake. He quickly puts the knife back where he took it out from.

"Now that I think about it..." Urumi tapped her cheek. "Keri bringing up the IV stand reminded me of something. We've been thinking that mark on the sauna door was from that holding the door shut, but if someone pushed against the door, would the stand really make scratches like that? It was four lines fanning outward, right? Shouldn't the scratches have all gone in the same direction if that was the case?"

V.A.L. had been silent for a long time, but finally the robot spoke up.

"Bzzt, if I wasn't facing the window when Brennan came into the washroom, I would not have seen him, bzzt. Perhaps in coming in, he accidentally knocked me over, causing the electrocution that killed Mitzi? Bzzt. He would have then sought to get the body as far from the crime scene as possible, bzzt, thus wrapping her in the curtain and stowing her in the floatie, bzzt."

"Mr. Marlowe!" He shouts, "How dare you! You know very well that pouring water on V.A.L. would seriously damage it! There's even a chance he would lose his memories! Indeed, it isn't a certainty, but there's at least a chance!"

He hovers over to Jack, glaring at him. "Quite frankly, I am apalled by your behavior during this trial, what with eating glass vials, attempting to call a vote early, encouraging others to do drugs, and now trying to get one of your fellow passengers seriously injured! I have half a mind to kick you out of this blimp if you survive this trial! Consider yourself warned!"

With that over with, V.A.L. returns to the podium.
