Okay, you know the Barber Paradox? From Wikipedia:

Suppose there is a town with just one male barber; and that every man in the town keeps himself clean-shaven: some by shaving themselves, some by attending the barber. It seems reasonable to imagine that the barber obeys the following rule: He shaves all and only those men who do not shave themselves.

Under this scenario, we can ask the following question: Does the barber shave himself?

Asking this, however, we discover that the situation presented is in fact impossible:

* If the barber does not shave himself, he must abide by the rule and shave himself.
* If he does shave himself, according to the rule he will not shave himself.

Well, I know the solution to this: the bartender is bald.

Actually, the real solution to the Barber Paradox is to understand the quintessential fact that language (as opposed to mathmatics) is flawed as a logical symbol set, and that the only paradox inherent in the scenario stems from a faulty logical deduction.

In essence, the statement that the barber MUST shave everyone who does not shave themselves, and thus, cannot shave himself, is logically flawed. It's a de facto reductio ad absurdum sort of conclusion.

Kinda like a syllogism.

No.

Just poofed from the forums for reasons of suckage. AA3 being US released brought me back.

As far as word logic gotchas, they're easily fixable if you bother to fix the wording. Without their inexplicably restrictive non-sensical wording, they lose all their power.

Let us behold the fantastic answer that Holy copypasta'd from a mildly obscure forum devoted to solving this one paradox.

Dude, how did you know about the Barbershop Paradox Forums?! We've been found out.

Although, seriously, I wish there more threads like this. Picking on everyone is getting boring.
