So I got Live Messenger. Actually, my dad got it for me because he had the admin account at the time. Loved it for a while, with the name-changing, display pics, timestamps, and the general cool look and being able to use different colors and even backgrounds. But then one day, it wouldn't let me sign in because it wanted me to update. Well, I'd just read a bunch of horror stories about people being nagged and forced to update AIM and getting really pissed off about that (since apparently the newest version was unnecessarily hard to work with and had lots of problems), and I seriously do not like the idea of having to go through that kind of crap, plus the fact that it was just tedious having to get my dad to install every single little thing like that. So I went back to Windows Messenger for a while.
That gave me a really restricted feeling for a while; as I said before, this thing barely lets you do anything. But I got used to it, and then it didn't bug me so much... then it would occasionally freeze, by which I mean it would disconnect me, but I'd have no way of knowing I was disconnected until I tried to IM someone and get the "unable to send" message several minutes later, or the same people who were on earlier still showed up as online at some unnatural time for at least one of them, or no one appeared to sign in for several hours. Okay, a little annoying, but I could just sign out and then back in, and it would be back to normal. So I decide to be (unnaturally) patient and go with it; that's apparently just what it does, but I'm not sure it should be doing it nearly as much as it was later. Like, about every few hours at the most, it seems like. It got more and more infuriating.
So just recently, Dad finally gave me the admin account after I'd gotten frustrated about having to wait until he got home from work just to do the extremely simple task of updating Flash. I did that, and while I was at it, also reinstalled Live Messenger, and WOW! The amazingness nearly exploded me! It's like when I got my glasses and could suddenly see details and outlines on far-away stuff! How the heck could I stand that other thing?

I love MSN, and I use it, but it sometimes logs my friends on and off for me, or I can't even log on. I still use it because all my friends on the interwebz uses it, but if I need to talk to my school friends, I can just use iChat (Either Bonjour or AIM)

Ah, tabs... hadn't thought about them for MSN, even though I abuse the heck out of them in Firefox. XD
Now, the background... I'm not sure about yours, since it does look kinda different from mine, but you should be able to find the menu with Tools. Go to Tools > Backgrounds, and go from there. The one I'm using is one that I made. :D

The program doesn't deliver all of my posts and has some other issues too. Sometimes my name my real name (due to my hotmail account) and sometimes I appear offline to other people while I'm really online. Can someone suggest any better program which works with MSN friends?

Only down side is it's the basic version for MAC. So I can't have backgrounds and add my own smilies. XP

I'm currently using err... used Windows Live Messenger set to a nice brown coloring (like here on CR) with a PW background but since my labtop died on me, I can't share a picture of it. I'm using a family member's labtop, so I can't modify it at the moment.

- I suggested Yahoo Messenger. Install the latest one, it is the best I ever used on Windows. But now that am using Linux, Pidgin Internet Messenger is the best (it combines all Messengers including the ones that I have never known of).
