We've FDL lights in my brother's room and on the landing. The energy bill was considerably lighter with em in instead of the regular bulbs.

If you use Blackle instead of Google, you'll save energy.

Quote:
Blackle saves energy because the screen is predominantly black. "Image displayed is primarily a function of the user's color settings and desktop graphics, as well as the color and size of open application windows; a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen." I've seen that before :D

99.999999% of the lights in our house are florescent. Yay :D

We turn of lights a lot.

We want a hybrid car when we get rid of the others.

My dad's work is only 5 minutes from our house, and occasionally he bikes to work.

I take public transportation to work instead of getting my parents to drive (this also applies to swimming)

We don't watch TV much.

Our washer and dryer are energy-star approved.

Our windows are insulated.

My bed is warm.

My iGoogle has a blackish background anyway.

And xfma_addict_x, that's all good, although:

You have MORE THAN ONE car? Who the hell needs that?
And why would you ever not cycle when it's only 5 minutes away (with err, any transportation device).

I would bike everywhere if I could (stupid bad knees ;_;). I do use the public transportation a lot. I'm already 19, but I still haven't gotten myself a driver's license and I don't even want one. I live in a city with pretty good public transportation. I can go anywhere I need to by bus, train, tram or metro and if I can't, I can always ask my mom to take me there (yeah I know, that's SO energy saving xD). We don't use our car that often though, so it's not that big deal.

@Holy Hell: I don't know. Maybe? :D

I own three cars, but I'm an enthusiast. Two of them don't even currently run anyways.

We have 2 cars. 2 parents, 2 cars.

And you sweat when you ride a bike, you know.

It's easier to get around.

And since one only holds 5 people (the size of my family), we have to have a minivan for when we need to carry more than one person.

But we don't drive much. Except when we go on 4 hour car rides to visit my family :D

Sorry about that.

That was... wrong XD

He can bike to work when the weather's good, and during the summer, when it's light out when he comes home.

It's easier to get around in 2 cars because sometimes we have to be in 2 places at once. Especially with 3 kids at 3 different schools and a lot of activities.

And both of my parents work. My mom is a substitute teacher, so she doesn't work all the time, just when she's needed. SO we need 2 cars.

I have two cars. I take transit to school 3 days a week and get a ride the other two days. Now that the weather's becoming a lot nicer, I've been walking home every day.

Using rollerblades to get around is better than using the bike. You need to make sure that the brakes are working, the tyres are not flat, etc.... or use the skateboard. But enough practice on the skateboard is necessary (rollerblading is easier).

And it takes 15 minutes by car to get there. Think of how long it takes to walk there.

Rollerblading is faster and less tiring than walking (watch CardCaptor Sakura).

Turning appliances off instead of leaving them on standby saves energy, as does washing your clothes at 30 degrees C instead of 40.

Buying a diesel car (or converting a petrol car to diesel) is also better for the environment (diesel cars are more fuel efficient).

Also, there are the usual ways of saving energy as well (loft insulation, low energy light bulbs, cavity wall insulation etc).

How do I save energy?

Turn off the lights when no ones in a room. (Duh)

theres an energy saving setting on the dryer and I always use it.

When I was in high school and acquired my driver's license I still walked to school.

If its really bright outside Id open the windows and doors and shut off the lights.

Using the hose in the sink instead of constantly having the water run when I do the dishes.

Thats all I can think of at this moment ^^

I don't think rollerblading is a better option than biking. You get more sweaty and if your workplace does not have a shower, you'll be smelling bad for the whole day and that's not nice for you or your co-workers and clients. Another thing is shoes... Where do you put those?

I love rollerblading, but I can't do it anymore because of my knees. :sadshoe:

I know, I'm surprised too O_o

I've always been a recycler, and its always been a challenge to get my mom and grandparents to do the same... Thats about all I do, really. I try to keep lights turned off, but back at home, whoever designed that house was a fucking moron, it's dark as hell during the day and you have to have lights on, except in 2 of the bedrooms, but the rest of the house you can't see shit, even during the day hardly =P

I like my grandparent's house, its built partially into a hill, but the windows and skylights let in a lot of natural light, which I like so much better then artificial xD Sunlight is the best light, especially when drawing.

I drive a gas guzzling truck though :larry: *dodges flying objects*

Unfortunately, not all of us live in a greener area, or somewhere where everything is within walking distance, or even places with public transportation. The world of yester-year was based around people who loved their cars and loved driving their cars everywhere, which translates into pain for those of us in the here and now who have to drive miles out to get anywhere, or drive hours into work sitting in traffic jams of death. Even out in the country its no better =P

I'd be far more active at it if the people who get paid to come to our school would just shut the fuck up.

Same goes for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Christianity/Religion, Sportsperson and Doctor. I really want to shout at them. Something along the lines of; "I don't bloody care, natural causes will have the same effect anyway, we just make things quicker!"

Lucky you. My area is full of houses and all. So wherever I go, I'll draw houses. xD

It's a 20-30 minute walk home, depending on my mood, the weather, and how quickly I want to return home. Hopefully it will help me to get in shape. I need to start working out >.< Some extra exercise should definately help ^^

I always use as minimum lights as possible to see what I'm doing. Like I'm not one of the ones who watch tv with all the lights on in the house.
This one is prolly weird but I shower in the dark lmao. No particular reason why, I've been doing it so long I don't even remember when I wasn't doing it.
I use my bicycle as my main means of transportation.
Not sure if/how this helps, but I use recharagle batteries.

Recharchable batteries actually do save energy.

1) Rechargeable batteries are reusable, which means you don't have go start your car, go to the store, and buy some.
2) The ones at the store have to be SHIPPED to the store. And so your also saving the truck energy.
3) It takes less energy to make one rechargeable battery than 10 regular batteries that you would have to use every time one ran out.

And rechargeable batteries are cheeper in the long run :)

Being pertrified of the roads and traffic puts you off driving a little...
Although it is a pain when you have to stand up on the bus and some god awful mother is content with ramming her pram into your ankles.
(I hate prams).

I love riding the rail, I'll sit there and go wheee~

I don't even get to ride a bus or train that often so it doesn't bug me if I ever have to, you have to go into the city or larger areas to have one, everywhere else doesn't have a bus, I've never lived somewhere with access to public transportation.

To USE public transportation, you have to drive out quite a ways to get to a damn bus stop, or even further to get to a train station if you don't feel like driving into downtown dallas.

Hmm, I wonder if this one is alright: finish any work that involves writing and/or reading during the day so that you don't need to turn on more lights during the night....

Also,

Take things at one go when you want to take anything from the refrigerator. Opening and closing the fridge's door frequently will make the gizmo work harder to keep the temperature down = more electricity consumption.
