Also, he's called Bokuto. I know that in Japan the last name goes first, but the way it's written in the magazine... I think Bokuto is his first name, and it's more a boy's name.

It would be disappointing if existing support characters from DD are just cameos, but we know so little that you can't really guess whether or not they'll appear at this point. I don't remember if Apollo or Athena were even brought up in DD's initial announcement (after that initial "we're working on it" announcement years before we heard about it again).

Yup, this has to be the case. AAI didn't sell so well in the USA, maybe prompting Capcom to believe that Phoenix has to be the main character so that we'll buy the game.

Fine, they never receive any meaningful follow-up. Admittedly Morgan is the closest we get to an exception, but they clearly left that plot thread open at the end of JFA, and she only played a background role in T&T. The Phantom's plot and connection to the cast has been resolved and wrapped up. (And no, his face is not an unresolved plot thread.)

I had only theorized (albeit very strongly) that this was the case but I am ready to say it is now incontrovertible.

The only plot thread that might have been left from that is that i think he was working for some organisation. I'd like to know more about that but i doubt it'll ever go anywhere.

Based on the image of the boy in the Water Mirror, I'd say he's the first defendant. The picture makes him look like he's about to bash someone on the head and the testimony reflects that. However, the clues regarding the contradiction probably lies somewhere within those words.
As for the girl, she seems to be carrying some sort of staff. I can imagine she may be a local spirit medium. If she's not there at the stand to testify for herself, she's probably there to testify for a spirit... or something. Hey, if everyone in that town believes the spirits are roaming about, we might actually get testimony from a dead person again.

I think my main issue with it taking place in a foreign country is that it's a gimmick that doesn't actually change the gameplay and that's already been done in two spin-off games now.

Something about this woman really impresses me. Either it's that pose of hers in the background or the way she speaks (which has a somewhat authoritative tone) or that amazing staff... Everything about her screams "elegant badass". I can't wait to find out who she is~
