John rolled his eyes. "You're no fun when you co-operate," he said.

"Release me, you brute," he told Claudius. "I'll leave, for now."

"Wasn't good enough for you?" Silas asks. "What would be, then?"

"Your complete and utter destruction," John said without a hint of guile. Breaking free of Claudius' hold, he tugged his shirt back into place with a sniff.

"But it's not good enough if I cooperate? Seems strange to me." Silas shrugs. "If you need anything else, be sure to let me know, yeah?"

"C'mon guys... we're doing fine. We're beating John even when he goes up against us, we can defend ourselves against him, like that's perfect! A little bit of embarrassment every now and again never hurt anybody."

Casey laughs and pumps her fist, seemingly undisturbed by what's transpired, but she spent a lot of the time nervously avoiding eye contact with John.

"Silas that was pretty cool! You totally showed that he's so pointless with all that crap he does! Hell yeah!"

"Heh, really? Thanks.." He sheepishly rubbed the back of his head, avoiding eye contact. "I figured if he had someone to mess with whenever he wanted, he could leave everyone else alone. Who better than me, yeah?"

"At least he's out of our hair for the time being."

Molly stifles a laugh at Casey's excitement, then gives Silas a sly smile. "That was clever, I really thought he had you. But... I'd still like to know what has John thinking like that..."

Sachiko left the room for some time, before returning. She took a vial out of her pocket.

"Good news everyone. I have more meds now," she said. "Though now that gives me some time to work on sometjing for John, assuming we're still going with that plan.

"That was an incredibly noble display, Lord Belrose." Kagayaki walked up to Silas and bowed her head in thanks. "I hope you can forgive my lack of assistance during that confrontation..." she added bashfully, squeezing her wrist.

I feel like it's something to do with the 'game,' and how he's approaching it, but maybe he's just like kind of an abusive guy... as harsh at it is to say. "...taking...away our happiness...huh..." The words seem to stick with Penelope a bit, " I don't like making such accusations. I just wish we could talk him through this rather then medicate but....well, I've worked along side herbalists and they know what they're doing, I assume the Ultimate Herbalist especially would..." She blushes a bit, looking to Sachi, "Yes, please, if you need help, let me know... I can be of service...!" She does a little salute, then laughs awkwardly, " Okay already regret that...yikes."

Sachi nodded and took her medicine, before slipping the vial back in her pocket and giving a thumbs up.

"Oh, I'll need some muscle alright. Some people are gonna have to hold John down, and not look at him or listen to him...." she thought for a moment. "Maybe I should make the medicine into a pill, then?"

"Ahaha! Wow look at this guy! That's badass man! That's a damn cool thing to say. I mean this in the most complementary way possible, but you remind me of the best people I ever met back home. The type of people who would never back down even when... even when things would get really... Even when we basically didn't have any hope. Of course we're not doing that bad right now, but I can tell that you're sort of like those guys. The best kind of guys the streets have."

"Oh yeah I can hold him down! That's like the one thing I can do! I can do it with my eyes closed so he won't hypnotize me... Or at least maybe I could. I bet I could. AND my ears closed."

Penelope scrunches her face at the idea, "That sounds so...aggressive. John hasn't been the nicest to us, I guess....but, we can at least treat him with more decency..?" She brings her hand to her chest and thinks, "Hmmm, maybe, uh, well, trick him into taking the medicine...." She covers her mouth, and looks away, " That sounds...unethical...never mind, I never suggested that."

Sir Cardor had strangely been staying out of the fight when John entered. In fact, he was nowhere to be seen during the entire confrontation. However, once he had left the room, there were some footsteps and he was visible again. "An incredible job done, my friends!", he bellowed out. "It was truly a pity I did not get to participate. I, er…needed to use the restroom. Er, but I overheard the performance you gave, 'Twas a valiant effort."

He shook his head. "In fact, the only problem I see is that Sir Swindler is hardly a 'Swindler'. Perhaps Sir Swine would be more apt now. But to prevent him from doing his job, we must not make eye contact with him at all! And what better way to do that than…wear masks?"

Silas laughs awkwardly at Casey's words. "You're much too kind, really. I'm not worth that praise. I only did what was right. Everyone here- your lives are very important. It's only natural that I'd do whatever I could to keep everyone here happy."

Penelope giggles, smiling to him, " That's sweet, you know, I love hearing things like that. People like you are what makes the world a better place, " she nods. "Putting others before yourself... it's a strong quality to have...erm...." She blinks rapidly, realizing she was barely able to recall his name, "....y-yeah...uh...Silas..!" She looks away, mentally crossing her fingers hoping she got it, muttering to herself, "Man Penelope...you need to retain information better..."

Shirly goes to get some crackers from the kitchen. On the way back, she runs into everything.

"You know... I can't help but to relate to John here. I do not trust any of you, how do I know one of you aren't planning to murder me in my sleep? Not that I agree to making someone set themselves on fire, but considering Aoki keeps wanting to set thing on fire, I can't blame John for wanting to make him do it to himself. And like, you guys have been at this for sooo long. I'm bored beyond my mind now."

"You woulda been having more fun had you been here the whole time! It was just thrilling enough! There were good guys and less good guys and like they had their differences and it was intense! I had front row seats!"

"You're not going to know who you can trust until you see them up close in situations like that! That's... I've had to learn that."

Sir Cardor guffawed at Shirly's suggestion. "That is a foolish cause of worry, my fair lady. Our dormitories can be locked, correct? Besides, what Sir Swine is attempting to do is set us apart, to destroy our group mojo. If we continue the way he goes, then we will be off just as bad as he is! Unless you yourself wish to kickstart the killings, then he will most likely be the catalyst!"

Shirly yawns.

"This is like your soap operas. Yammering for 15 minutes until the ending song."

She walks out of the room.

"Tell me when something interesting happens, like if the knight trips over Akio or something."

"Soap operas? I wasn't aware that those suds moonlighted as singers in their free time", remarked Sir Cardor. He started walking away. "Regardless, I shall inform you when something happ-" His sentence was cut short as he accidentally tripped over Akio's foot and fell on his face. He quickly got back on his feet and left the kitchen in a huff.

Dale ran a hand through his hair, looking dejected. "I guess I have a lot to learn about how to handle some situations..." He said, glancing over at Silas after seeing how effective his actions were. "Hey, nice going there." He called over to the sketch artist. "I'm glad to have you here."

Spoiler: Thursday (Motive)
Everyone had gathered in the cafeteria. After all, nobody would dare defy an order from their headmaster at this point…

Welcome, everyone!” Monokoma shouted. He waved his hand suddenly and metal bracelets snapped around everybody’s left wrists.

“What the hell is this…” Dale grimaced.

“This is your motive!” Monokuma grinned. “Since you guys are all ‘such pure’ souls who would never kill...well, I figured things needed to get a little bit more tense. Allow me to explain:”

NG Code:
-Every bracelet has a forbidden action labeled on it
-Nobody is allowed to share their forbidden action
-The only person who can see their forbidden action is the wearer of the bracelet
-If you correctly guess somebody else’s forbidden action, they can verify your guess is correct and now be able to show you their bracelet
-Committing your forbidden action or sharing it without somebody guessing will result in a penalty
-The penalty for breaking your forbidden action is an injection of anesthetic into the body. Five minutes later, a lethal poison will enter

“What the hell…” Momo tugged at the bracelet.

“Hey, no trying to remove it either!” Monokuma shouted. “If you interfere too much with the bracelet, I’ll hit you with a penalty.”

A few people hit the buttons on the side of their bracelet. They weren’t able to see the words displayed on the other bracelets, but their own were perfectly visible. Some faces were scared. Some were blank.

“N-No!” Dallas shouted. “I-I...err-...shit…” He collected himself. “I can’t accept this. This is cheating.”

“Oh? I didn’t take you as one to back down from a challenge, Mr. Haizaki.” Monokuma snickered. “Well then, I’ll leave you guys to it.”

“So what?” Silas tried to bring in some levity. “We each can’t do one thing anymore, how can that be?”

“We have to find the mastermind.” Dallas’ voice had a sense of urgency to it that it lacked before.

“Sir Sherlock, I suggest you calm down. Cooler heads always prevail.”

“This isn’t a time to be calm!” Dallas shouted. “Our lives are on the line!”

“We all know. That’s exactly why we can’t panic.”

I won’t accept this. I-I can’t leave things like I did…”

“What are you talking about, Dallas?” Molly asked.

I-I have to see Sally again…” His eyes became gloosy. “Forget it. I’m the Ultimate Detective. I’ll solve this case myself if I have to.” He walked out of the room.

Everybody stared at their NG Codes, unsure of what would happen next.

Spoiler: Friday, 11:55 PM
“You’re kidding me.” Dallas sighed. “That’s everyone?”

Only 8 other people were in the room: Dale, Momo, Terrence, Silas, Lyla, Molly, Sachiko, and S.

“That’s all, huh?” He grimaced. “Whatever, I suppose this’ll be enough.” He sighed heavily and lit a cigarette.

“D-Dallas, you can’t just make us stand here!” Momo shouted. “We’re here to help, now get on with it! You said you knew the mastermind.”

“This isn’t what I intended. “Everybody is supposed to be gathered here.”

“W-Who cares?” Momo retorted. “If you tell us who the mastermind is, we can all go home!”

I need towait until midnight anyway…” Dallas grumbled.

“Sir Sherlock, I don’t believe anybody else is coming and we won’t be ready by midnight if we go looking for them.”

“Let’s all be calm…” Molly advised, clutching a puppet close to her.

“Man this day sucks…” Dallas pouted.

“We may as well wait.” Lyla said.

The clock just ticked on and on. Dallas seemed to be getting increasingly nervous and fidgety. “I need you all to promise me something.” He said.

“W-What?” S was was the first to speak.

“When we find the mastermind, we’ll kill him. We can’t forgive someone who just toyed with our lives like this.”

“That’s impossible to promise…” S said. Nobody else seemed to offer any words to that.

The clock ticked on and on. “Alright.” Dallas nodded. He got ready to dramatically point. “The mastermind is-!”

PSST

The room turns pitch black. Nobody can see in front of them at all anymore.

“W-What’s going on?” Silas yelled. “I can’t see who he’s pointing to!”

“Dallas, who’s the mastermind?!” Sachiko’s voice was the next one to pierce the darkness.

“Nobody panic.” Dale suggested. “Let’s just get a sense of our surroundings.”

THWACK

“Ow, fuck!” A boy yelled.

SPLAT

A jingle plays in a low pitch.

BANG

An explosion of gunpowder illuminated the area of the room Lyla was standing .

“I need everybody to stay calm!” Dallas ordered. “On the count of three, everybody just say your name so we can establish our position. One, two, three. Dallas.”

“S.”

“Sachiko.”

“Dale.”

“Sir Candor.”

A jingle plays in a slightly different pitch.

“Molly.”

“Silas.”

“M-Momo.”

“...Lyla.”

There was certainly room for error, but everybody seemed to be standing where they were before the blackout occurred.

“Thank god.” Silas smiled, probably. “Alright, next we should-” He was cut off. There was a violent shaking.

“E-Earthquake!” Momo yelled. There was a sound of bodies hitting the floor, everybody was trying to protect themselves. Objects were falling over, and the shaking didn’t seem to stop...until it finally did.

“Is everyone ok?” Lyla asked.

As if an answer to her question, the lights turned on. The scene before them was worse than they imagined.

Dallas was...gone. Where he had been standing, some splatters of blood were on the floor.

“W-What’s going on?! You guys are trying to kill me, aren’t you?!” Anissa shouted.

“A-Anissa, when did you get here?” Sachiko was visibly surprised.

“I realized I was late to Dallas’ meeting, and then everybody started to jump up and d-down and shake the building! I mean, I know I didn’t deserve to be invited but-”

“We don’t have time for this.” Dale lightly shoved her aside. “We need to find Dallas.”

“W-Well, he’s not in the basement.” Anissa confirmed. “I know that for a fact.”

Dale eyed her warily. “Let’s check the basement.” He suggested.

“Yeah.” Molly agreed. “She’s clearly hiding something.”

“F-Fine. Don’t trust me. Not like I blame you…”

Before the group got to the basement, John, Penelope, and Casey showed up. They were all soaking wet.

“Where did you guys come from?” Silas asked.

“We’ll explain later!” Casey decided. “We heard a gunshot, are you guys ok?”

“We don’t know. We’re looking for Dallas, we think he’s in the basement.” Lyla said. “Come on, let’s go.”

The group opened the basement door and headed down. “Woodshop or medical…” Terrence pondered. When they reached the bottom, they found Shirly there. She was supporting herself against the doorframe to the woodshop.

A feeling of trepidation hung in the air….the class took a deep breath and peeked inside.

The body was sprawled onto the floor, eyes closed. He lay in an undershirt with his dress shirt, coat, and hat thrown to the side. Half his body had begun to turn purple, and a small pattern of blood had formed around.

Dallas seemed oddly at peace, yet in so much pain at the same time.

The killing game had begun.

Spoiler: Investigation
A body has been discovered! Please head to the woodshop as soon as possible.”

“Oh my god…Dallas.” Silas turned green.

“Tch.” John spat at the ground. “One less worm on this earth.”

“H-How can you say that?!” S yelled. “H-He was alive not too long ago and-!”

“I don’t need lectures from a robot. This place has limited food, we’re better off that he’s dead.” John ran his hand through his hair.

“Let’s ignore him.” Kagayaki showed up. Akio was behind her, but Claudius still seemed to have not shown up. “We need to get started on the class trial, right?”

“T-The last thing I can think about right now is a trial…” Penelope steadied herself.

“Shirly, what happened?” Dale asked.

“I just came here after the blackout. I found him like this and…”

Did someone say trial?” Monokuma popped up.

“You’re way too late on your cue!” Anissa yelled.

“Well then, I’ll just get out of your way. I suggest you guys search every cranny, missing one clue could be fatal. But uh, take this.” He throws a file over to Terrence, who fumbles with it but gets it straightened out.

“Right then!” Terrence decided. “I’ll just read it aloud:”

The victim is Ittestu Haizaki, the Ultimate Detective.

Time of death is shortly after midnight.

Body was found with a wound on his head, and a deep cut on his left arm.

“It’s not much…” Silas mumbled.

“Monokuma, I have a question.” Molly asked. “If Dallas was killed by his NG Code, who’s the blackened?”

“The blackened would be whoever triggered his NG Code.” Monokuma answers. “However, if the wearer of the NG Code triggered it, then the blackened is the mastermind.”

“So the mastermind must be the blackened behind this crime!” Terrence shouted.

“Oh? We’re meeting the man behind the curtain already.” John smiled in delight. “The thought of killing one of you vermin is giving me goosebumps...but perhaps I’ll make you dance first since you thought to put me in this game of yours.”

“That’s enough.” Casey says. “We need to split up and cover as much ground as we can. Two per team since…”

“Since we can’t trust each other, right?” Shirly finished her sentence. “One of us did this…”

Team Assignments:
Woodshop: Sachiko and Anissa
Medical: S and Akio
Foyer: Terrence and Momo
Pub: Casey and Dale
Exit Door: Penelope and Kagayaki
Auditorium and Sound Room: Silas and Molly
Miscellaneous: Everyone else

Ding dong, bing bong
The PA speaks:

“It’s time for the class trial! Everyone make your way to the dormitory!” you hear Monokuma’s voice say.

Everyone gathered by the elevator in time for the trial.

“Claudius, where the hell were you?!” Casey yelled. “We were worried sick.”

“Sorry.” Claudius looked pale, and avoided eye contact. “I’m here now, though.”

Everybody got in the elevator. It rose slowly down.

“Well I guess this isn’t unexpected…” Kagayaki sighed, looking at the 16 seats arranged in a circle in front of them.

“I-I’ll just take Dallas’ spot.” Anissa moved over to the podium that had Dallas’ portrait with a giant ‘X’ over it. She sort of crept under the sign and scrunched down to fit on the podium, not moving the sign out of the way as far as she could.

“Well, someone had to do it. So, thanks.” Silas said.

“Isn’t that a pretty picture.” John laughed. “You couldn’t get a more perfect image of what’ll happen to you, girl.”

“Dallas was a good guy. A little reckless with firearms, sure, but nobody’s perfect. He may not have had the best interests of the group at heart, but he never tried to hurt them, and did intend to put away the one behind this killing game. He had people in the outside world who were waiting for him. People he’ll never see again…

We can’t forgive the person who killed him. And the one who killed him is…one of us.

“Wellllllcome to the class trial!” Monokuma says, taking his place at a podium high above the others. “During the class trial, you will present your arguments for who the killer is and 'whodunit'! If you vote correctly, only the blackened will be punished! If you vote incorrectly, I'll punish someone besides the blackened! And the blackened will get to leave!”

“So, as a courtesy,” Monokuma says, “I’ll direct you guys how to begin. You know, so you don’t bore me. In my opinion…”

“M-mister headmaster?” asked Anissa meekly, standing under Dallas’ crossed out portrait.

“Uhm…. what?” asked Monokuma.

“I was wondering, about the wrist-things-- the NG bracelets?” she asked. “Now that a murder has been committed, we can take them off, right?”

Monokuma scoffed. “Um… no?”

“B-but then how were they motives for us to commit murder?” Anissa continued. “Not being able to discuss them at all is a little bit… cumbersome? And that makes it a bit unfair to us, don’t you think?”

Monokuma considered this for a moment. “Yeah… I guess so…”

“So you can take them off of us during the trial?” Anissa asked, hopefully.

“Noooooo…. I don’t think so.” said Monokuma. “But I’ll tell you what I will do, I’ll loosen the restrictions on ‘em. If you break any of the aforementioned rules, you’ll still get a penalty, but the penalty will be that you fall unconscious from the sedative-- there’s enough there to be able to knock you out for the rest of the trial. Then, if by the end of the trial, the class doesn’t correctly vote for the blackened, every unconscious will also die! Sound fair?”

“N-no…” muttered Anissa.

“Grrrreat!” said Monokuma enthusiastically. “Now, you all might wanna go through your alibis! Go on, discuss while I file my claws!”

After several deep breaths, Silas speaks up. "Okay. Lets get this over with. At around 11:55, Momo, Terry, Lyla, Molly, Sachi, S, Dale and I all met up with Dallas in the Foyer. Dallas was just about to point to whoever the Mastermind was, right before the lights went out. Then, one of us, sounded like a guy, was hit with something. Heard a thwack. Then some strange jingle played, right before the gunshot. Dallas instructed us to all say our name to confirm our location, which the eight of us did. Midway through, there was another strange noise.. But then the earthquake happened. After that was over, the lights finally came back on, and Dallas was missing. Only a pool of blood remained. Anissa showed up, and after a brief discussion we investigated the basement, much to her dismay. Then we met with Casey, John, Penelope, who were all soaked.. and Shirly, who was in the basement already.. and well, you all know what happened after that."

Silas sighed after that lengthy explanation. "So, I feel like it's about time to know what Shirly was doing in the basement, and why Casey, John and Penelope were soaking wet."

"The jingle noises are the sounds of the bracelets going off," Sachi held up her wrist and tapped her bracelet to gesture to it. "Or at least, I think that's what it is. I saw the body, and I think his was one of the bracelets that was activated.....there were 2 jingles in the room."

Sachi frowned for a second. "Hrmmm, I wonder....Does anyone remember which hand Dallas held his gun in? If his bracelet went off and injected him, he might have fired his gun as a reflex. That is, if he was left handed. I know that's not helping much, but it would give a reason as to why he shot his gun, compared to, say, someone sneaking up on him."

"In fact....I think I've figured out what his bracelet rule was. But I'm not saying. It's just too risky, in case I'm wrong."

"Strangely, you heard the bracelet go off while you were all saying names? Could someone's NG code be saying their own name or something? Then, why didn't they die..."

Shirly turns to Sachiko.

"Is your NG code 'guessing someone's NG code wrong'?"

A black and white Roomba goes over to Sachiko.

Silas tilts his head at Sachiko's last statement. "Like that Roomba said, there's no penalty for guessing wrong. What's risky about it? Unless your code happens to be something ridiculous like 'Guessing incorrectly?'"

Silas then turns over to Shirly. "If it truly was the bracelet, then maybe they make that noise twice? Once for the anesthetic, and then another for the poison? And I'm still waiting to hear what you were doing down in the basement."

"I'm afraid it's not...." she yawned. "But nice guess though. I'm getting ahead of myself and getting my facts mixed up, sorry...." she rubbed her eyes.

"Actually...." she grinned and ran a hand over the shaved part of her hair. "I ah, I forgot that guessing wrong wasn't a rule. Sorry!"

"So, lets hear it then. What do you think Dallas' NG code was?"

(I'm an idiot and forgot we're on alibis now. Feel free to skip this over for now or whatever, my bad.)

"I guess we have two possibilities then. Either Dallas died to poison - where the wounds on him were done to fake the reason of his death - or he was killed before the poison was activated. In either case, two jingles went off, so someone else was incapacitated by the bracelet... but nobody was lying on the ground. Which makes this all tricky. But now isn't the time for this!" Lyla raises a finger.

"Anywho, onto my alibi. And the reason behind the gunshot."

She crosses her arms and clears her throat. "On Thursday, Dallas knocked at my door. I open it and he was there. He said he needed my help, and that he was going to expose the mastermind at the foyer the day after. So he said that the mastermind was going to try and expose him... which leads to my next point. That Dallas gave me his 44, and told me to shoot whoever attempted to kill Dallas. I was hesitant, but..." Lyla sighs.

"Next day. I go to the foyer and, as expected, there's a blackout. I draw my firearm pointing it where Dallas was... Obviously, I heard someone shouting a cry of pain, which was most likely Dallas... and I shot in that direction. If I hit something--which I probably did-- they have a bullet hole in them. As for my investigation, I found nothing."
