Lyla had been looking at the ground for a few minutes with a sad look on her face. Eventually, she raises her head towards John and speaks up. It seems to be more of a look of disgust than anything.

"I don't get what kind of person puts seventeen people in a game to make them kill eachother as some sort of sick retribuition. You go on and talk about how we're terrible people or whatever your twisted mind came up, but maybe you should really consider who you are. I made a promise to Dallas that I couldn't even keep, for God's sake. And he won't even get to see Sally again-- all because of you."

He gallantly posed, taking his sword and immediately running towards where John was chained with surprising agility before anyone could even stop him. He neared the metal pillar where John was being restrained, holding his sword out towards his chest…

Only to stop an inch before him. He looked at the others with glee.

"I have decided to leave him be!"

He looked back at the hypnotist. "You may be a swine and a shameless slaughterer, but to descend to your level would make me just as bad as you. So congratulations, Sir Shit-Eater! You have been spared by me." Laughing without regret, he put his sword back in and made his way back to the elevator with Claudius, Silas and Dale.

Lyla appears deep in thought for a few minutes, fidgeting with her hands. However, as soon as she's done thinking, she stands up straight. "No, it's not right."

"I made a promise that I can't break. It was Ittetsu's last wish, and I couldn't even do what he told me to do. I couldn't even save him from death. I couldn't catch the mastermind. I couldn't rely on the one thing I have left." She then looks over to John, "But can I break that promise now? Just because now you're tied to a pillar? Am I supposed to feel pity for someone-- no, something like you?"

Silence hangs in the air for a few seconds.

"The answer is no. I'm staying behind and I'm putting an end to John's misery. And I'm going to avenge Ittetsu. You all can judge me however much you want, but I'm not going to allow someone to get away with cold blooded murder. I don't care whether blood will be on my hands or not. If he doesn't die here, then what's to say he won't do this entire thing again once he gets out too?"

"No, I'm not letting you get away with murdering Dallas. At least, I'll be able to do something. For once." She looks down at her own trembling hands, and looks back at the others in the elevator, nodding.

The elevator door opened to bright sunlight. As they departed, the students shielded their eyes against the glare of natural light-- the first they’d seen in days. They departed onto the metal deck of the ship. Several dozen deckchairs have been set up, and a pool had been depressed into the deck, but the guide lines on the deck floor gave it a more "military" feel.

“But wait a gosh darned minute!” said Dale. “The rules said that once the mastermind died, we were free to go!”

“You are-- of course!” said Monokuma. “You should know, though, that we don’t have any liferafts-- for some reason, John didn’t think you’d need them! But you’re free to go wherever you want!”

“B-but…” Anissa started.

“That is… absurd!” shouted Terrence.

A few of the students looked behind them as the elevator begins another descent. A minute or so later, the students who elected to remain behind joined them.

MonoRoomba shouted from his new perch atop the midmast, “LAND-H0000000000!”

“Welcome, students, to Ursino Island! Where life and death… are like the flip of a coin!” said Monokuma enthusiastically.
