Midge goes over to check with Helios. The look on her face is emotionally distraught, but she doesn't protest.

"Violet had to be conscious to climb up the chimney, so that must be how she did it. Though why would she lock herself at the top... None of us could have followed her."

"Ugh... Does anyone have any idea how much of the room was actually covered by the gas?" Helios asked, "Specifically, did it fill the whole room, or could someone who was tall enough just, like... stand on the table?"

"The purse. It had a pen in it. Who looked in there?"

Midge gives Bradley a look, her eyes still wet from crying, retracting her hand.

"N-no... I never remarried after my love died. I was just letting Helios know we have more to investigate."

"I'm already married, anyway," Helios said, seemingly someone calmer now. "Her names Elektra. She's been seeing the spotlight a lot after I began my campaign, though I can understand Bradley not knowing her."

"Anyway..." Helios looked toward Emma and Adriana's bodies and visibly shuddered. "Let's investigate over there, I guess..." He went to check the bodies and the scene around them.

"Unless someone's playing dead, the only people who opened the purse to know what was in it who are alive are me and Violet. I would not have killed Emma though I swear."

Midge searches alongside Helios.

There are some drag marks of blood from where Adriana was killed to near the bodies, but they seem almost unnatural somehow.

[Also if anyone is curious you were all knocked out for 5 minutes this time]

“Wait!" Bradley shouted. M-Mr Teddy…?”

“What?”

“I-I think my hands got burnt in the fireplace…”

“Lemme see.” Teddy turned back.

As Teddy bent down to look at Bradley’s hands, he didn’t even notice Helios coming at him, until he was just at the corner of his eye. As he turned to the point the gun, Bradley grabbed the fire poker and stabbed it into Teddy’s leg.

Teddy screamed and stumbled but still whipped up his gun just as Helios pressed down on the can of pepper spray. He knocked his arm only slightly upwards but Helios still sprayed it, the painful spray already percolating throughout the room.

Teddy got the worst of it by far, but Helios’ eyes were clearly watering and he briefly put his face on his hand in pain.

NOW!

Bradley leapt at Teddy’s leg and wrapped around it, trying to knock him down. Teddy got control of his gun and fired wildly at Helios as he tried to kick Bradley off. The bullet missed.

Teddy kicked Bradley at the wall, knocking him against it. He quickly ripped the poker out but just as he tried to kick again, Midge had grabbed his arm, knocking the gun out of his hands.

Teddy once again kicked Bradley, much more forcefully. Bradley got the wind knocked out of him as he hit the wall, but Midge bit Teddy in the top of the shoulder, near the throat, before he could do anything further.

“AAAAGH!” Teddy screamed as Midge toppled him to the ground, grabbing her knife, and preparing to plunge it.

...Teddy grabbed her wrist right before she could. They both struggled to push the knife, both clawing at each other’s faces. Helios grabbed the gun in the meantime, trying to get a steady shot.

Teddy threw Midge over his side and smashed his fist against her face. He attempted to grab the knife but Midge held it close and forced herself up, even as Teddy wrangled her.

BANG!

Teddy reeled back as he got hit in the right shoulder. Angrily, and full of adrenaline, he threw Midge towards Helios and obscured his next shot. He then threw himself forward, knocking both of them to the ground. He smashed Helios with the poker for good measure.

The first thing Midge did was scramble for the gun. That was her fatal mistake.

Teddy grabbed her head by her hair, and dragged her up, kicking the gun towards the fireplace, where he immediately started to drag her body. Midge put up as much of a fight as she could, clawing at Teddy.

He threw her head towards the edge of the fireplace, a sickening crack filling the room. Midge, somehow with a sense of coherency, scrambled her hand up to Teddy’s face one last time, plunging her thumb into his eye socket.

Teddy smashed her against the corner of the fireplace again. And again. And again.

He dropped Midge against the floor. There was no doubt she was dead, the mantle painted with her blood.

Bradley screamed in horror, running towards the wall, holding the fire poker close to him. Helios, still dazed, started to get up.

Teddy panted heavily. He had a stab wound on his leg, a bullet wound on his shoulder, as well as a chunk of flesh out. He could could barely see a thing in his left eye cause of the pepper spray, and his right eye was in terrible shape, oddly pushed in. Whatever willed him to survive was nothing but primal, animal instincts. He was panting and sweating, and like a limping bear, dragged himself towards Helios.

Teddy picked up his gun off the floor. Helios was barely able to start standing before Teddy pointed the gun steady at the Senator's face with his off-hand.

Helios stared up at the gun, clearly out of breath. But he didn't seem particularly frightened anymore.

"Well, what are the options, really?" Helios said, sighing in resignation. "All the other reasonable suspects are either dead or scared children. Scared of you, I might add. Because you're too unstable to hold a gun for a few minutes without blowing someone's brains out."

"But fine, I'll answer your question. I thought you were guilty for perhaps a few seconds, but now... Nah, no way." He said, "This guy's been two steps ahead of us this whole time. But that's not your style, huh? You send a bunch of goons to do your dirty work or shoot a few screaming people and pat yourself on the back for a job well done.

"So yeah, you're a threat." Helios spat, "Because you're just a goddamn idiot. We were going to fail this trial because you were too busy waving a gun around and barking orders to actually give anyone a chance to think. And when people tried do anything you didn't like, you shot them. Because that's the only way you can solve your problems, isn't it?"

"Hah, really?" Teddy somehow managed to laugh through all the pain. "The only one I shot was Adriana, fuckwad. And that's because I knew what she really was. I didn't even kill Albert, and he fucking destroyed a vaccine! I didn't give you guys a chance to think? If you wanted to think about the case, maybe you should've fucking done that instead of pulling off this little stunt! So I hope you're happy. Because it's all fucking ruined now."

Helios leaned his head back and started to laugh. It was a long, deep laugh that seemed to fill the entire room. The kind of laugh you wait years to give.

"Real rich coming from the guy who just slammed a woman's head against a wall about twenty times," he said, "But sure, keep justifying yourself to a roomful of corpses if it helps you sleep at night. I don't care who Adriana was, that doesn't mean you get to shoot her dead and not expect consequences. Then again, I guess you're not used to those, are you?"

"The serial killer was the enemy here, but you've already killed as many people as them, and I'm sure you're just itching to increase that little score. You complain about us not trusting you, but you didn't give us a single reason to. You just shoved a barrel at our necks and expected things to work themselves out. You realize that we just wanted to get the gun so things would settle down? We're not your enemy here, Teddy: you are."

"Ah, whatever," Helios rested his hand on the nearby table. "Good luck with the trial and all that! Hope ya' smoke out the killer, give 'em the ol' Bianchi special, and choke on your vaccine. You earned it, pal."

Helios flashed a grin and gave a quick thumbs-up. It was the kind of pose he often gave at campaign rallies.

The bullet made short work of that grin.

Helios collapsed to the floor with a thump.

Teddy didn’t come close to Bradley. He sat on the other end of the room from him against the wall, his knees tucked up, the gun resting on his legs.

Time went down. Bradley clutched the poker in a death grip, eyeing Teddy with intensity. He wept while holding it, apologizing profusely "I didn't mean it...*sniff* I'm sorry...I-I never wanted this to happen." He sobbed loudly looking up at the terrifying man with tears. "Y-y-you don't need to kill me....if you end it now...everyone else is dead. I didn't kill G-Ghost. You'd get the vaccine....unless...Violet killed Ghost....you...you could just go...leave here...." He pleaded.

“Bradley.”

Bradley said nothing.

“I’m not gonna kill you.” Teddy assured.

Still, Bradley said nothing. Just shivered.

A few moments later, yet another shot rang out in the small room.

...A new bullet hole was in the wall. The gun slid across the floor.

“One bullet left. You can use it on me, or on the hatch. Your choice.”

Bradley didn’t move. He continued to glare at Teddy. The silence continued.

Bradley looked at Teddy and looked at the gun, holding it. Then...he slid it away from itself.

Teddy sniffed and laughed. “You said you liked reading, right?

“...”

“Do you like school?”

“...”

“Did you have a lot of friends?”

“.............just one.”

“Did you like him?”

“....no. I hate him actually.”

Teddy didn’t know what to say. “...you’re a good kid, Bradley. I’m sorry about all this and...I wish I could’ve helped you.”

The conversation was cut short by a gas canister falling down to the floor. It hissed out a gas and slowly, the two fell asleep.

Spoiler:
Upon awakening, there was a strange tension in the air. It was like some force had entered the room, dark and cold, chilling the temperature.

Bradley was on the ground. It seemed like he was just sleeping but his neck was twisted in a horrible, unnatural position. He didn’t move at all.

Teddy just stared in complete shock. He looked at all the bodies around him and shivered, a horrible fear blanketing his face.

He crawled over to Adriana’s body. He thought of everything he learned from the beginning of the game. Everything he learned this trial... there was no doubt that this very game had already contradicted his memories.

“Teddy.” Null’s voice almost sounded like it was coming from inside his head. “Perhaps you should’ve just gone with your gut feeling.”

Teddy looked at his hands. The hands of someone who had already killed many.

"We're not your enemy here, Teddy: you are."

...It wasn’t over yet. Null put him in this situation, and while Teddy wasn't sure of what the fuck was happening here, he knew he wasn't gonna be someone's puppet. It was Null's game but Teddy didn't have to play by the rules. And as long as Teddy didn’t know that he had lost, he had to bet on any chance he could. If he hadn't already outright lost, then... then he could still get the last laugh on Null.

Teddy seemed like he was gonna cry, but then he smiled and almost laughed. He looked up at the ceiling as if Null was watching and slowly grabbed the gun next to Bradley's corpse, raising it to his temple.

BANG!

...

...

END?

Spoiler: Catch-Up
-Ghost is dead
-Ignore everything that happened after this post

Seeing the futility in his attempts to cut the suit with the fire poker, a dark anger was stirred in Bradley. Tears came to his eyes as he began to scream in rage. Tearing the poker out of the suit he began to repeatedly stab into Ghost's body. Piercing further holes and coating himself in Ghost's blood. Then in a moment of madness, Bradley began to stab furiously at the visor.

"Listen, man... You know I didn't do this, right? Y-You can trust me...right?" Helios pleaded to Teddy.

"...are you planning to go along with what Null said? Finding the killer, and...killing them?" Emma asked uneasily.

Teddy wasn't responding to anyone. His eyes were in a far away place.

BANG!

The memory was so clear it almost scared him. He...died. What the hell was going on...?

"Exit trial."

Painlessly, the door to the dining room opened.

Helios could barely blink. He rubbed his eyes, literally unable to believe what he was seeing.

"W-What the hell?!" Albert shouted. "Y-You're giving up on Ghost?! Y-You...coward!"

Shockingly, Teddy didn't respond. His mind still seemed to be busy.

[The game won't move on in any significant GM-led direction until everyone's clear on where we are. You can post now, just not much will happen yet. Check the flowchart or ask me in the ooc qt if you have any questions]

Emma checked the time they had left with her bracelet. "Do we even have time to worry about who killed Ghost? Our time is almost up. But then again, what can we do now that we have no vaccines, and probably no more trials left...?" Her voice started growing more alarmed as she spoke.

Bereft of adult intervention Bradley continued to hack at the yellow suit until Ghost was an unpleasant mix of offal and rubber before his strength finally gave out. Falling back onto the floor he fell quiet gazing up at the ceiling, tears continuing to pour silently down his cheeks.

"Bradley come on, let's get out of here. It was just something to make us try to find an unkillable foe, at least I think it was... Only someone truly inhuman would have killed Ghost -- no its the only thing that could have killed them -- and that's something we still need to prepare ourselves for. Stay strong, stick together, be ready."

Midge looks deep in thought as she reaches to usher Bradley out of the room. Clearly she doesn't seem to think the grave subject matter is too much for him. She nods assuredly to her own words.

"Yeah, hopefully we can find something else that doesn't take away all our vaccines like that. Ugh."

"W-what the hell?", Albert stammers in confusion. "W-why did you do that?! D-don't tell me you don't even want the vaccines?" He looked at Teddy in confusion. "W-we don't even know who killed Ghost! There's a killer in this group! C-can we really afford to do this?"

Bradley quietly got up and followed behind Midge waiting quietly while everyone else bickered. Finally finding his voice Bradley sighed and said "Let's just go...we don't have time to waste. This trial was a failure so we may as well keep going because we are not getting any more vaccines this way." He muttered quietly. "I don't want to stay here" he says turning away from the mess in the dining room only to cough violently accentuating his point.

"S-Shut the fuck up!" Teddy snapped at the people who were criticizing him. "Ghost is already dead, and Null wanted me to kill more people! And... And there were apparently more rounds waiting. Is that really how you wanted to fucking do this?"

After a moment, he added quietly, "Null told me to follow my instinct, so that's what I did. ...I think."

Everything confused Adriana, but she wasn't about to stick around a room with Ghost's dead body any longer than she had to. She quickly made her exit without

After she'd left the room, and rejoined those that had left, a thought occurred to herself, and she rooted around in her purse. As if startled, she stiffened for a moment, and then drew her compact and started to inspect her face as nonchalantly as she could manage.

So...what now?

The group didn’t seem to have an answer to the question. Some looked at the ground, or awkwardly away.

“Ugh...what even can we do?” Albert winced. “Bad enough that Ghost is dead, we don’t know who killed him. And we don’t have any vaccines on top of that. God, do we suck.”

“We’ll have to split up.” Helios sighed. “As much as I hate to suggest it, our only chance is hoping we missed a trial or that Null hid a vaccine somewhere.”

The group looked at each other warily, knowing there was a murderer among them.

“Alright.” Teddy grumbled. “Let’s just get to work.”

Spoiler: 90 minutes left
The search had proven fruitless. Everybody was not only losing motivation to search, but just general energy. Each contestant had coughed up blood at a certain point, and it was getting painful to even think.

As agreed, they met back in the lounge.

“I-I don’t want to search anymore…” Violet grumbled.

“M-Me either…” Bradley mumbled before vomiting a little on the floor.

“We have to keep looking.” Teddy assured. “Come on, guys.”

“We shouldn’t keep pushing the kids.” Midge suggested.

“None us will die before 9 hours.” Teddy grumbled.

“I feel like I can barely stand.” Helios breathed heavily. “Look at them.”

Bradley and Violet looked the worst by a good margin. They even had to get their hands held as the group walked back to this very lounge.

“Nobody likes getting dirt thrown on them before they die.” Adriana sighed. “If I’m being honest, I don’t think we’re going to find another vaccine or trial. But we definitely won’t find one if we stop searching.”

“Let’s see if the others found anything.” Teddy said. “Maybe that’s why they’re not here.”

Spoiler:
The group had checked several rooms before arriving in the garden. Immediately, they can tell something is very wrong. Blood is staining the grass, and some of the plants and tools.

A lot of the group was hit with a newfound sense of adrenaline to push them forward--fear. They slowly stepped forward, following one of the blood patches.

“O-Oh G-God…” Midge covered her mouth.

Emma’s eyes were still open, like she was staring at a monster. Her clothes were covered in blood, and her skin had already paled and gone cold. Her stomach was horrifically cut open, and her intestines and other internal organs had been dumped by the side.

Spoiler:
It hadn’t taken much longer to find Albert. Resting on one of the flower beds, he was laying on his side. His face was covered in blood but you could see where the tears had already washed some of them away.

...his stomach was also cut open. A macabre display of his insides poured out onto the dirt and petals. The look on his face gave little doubt that he was awake as it happened. The bloody shears next to him seemed to highlight the murder weapon.

"...Shit..." said Adriana, fatigued and in pain. She coughed, but that didn't seem to bring any relief. "Did... did Albert kill Emma and then himself?"

She took out a handkerchief and inspected it for a clean spot, and then wiped up some blood.

"Damn... it's this disease..." she continued. Then, as if remembering Albert, she said, "... well, probably..."

"What the fuck..."

Suddenly remembering himself (and doing his best to not vomit), Teddy turned around and tried to block Bradley and Violet before they got too close to see the gruesome scene.

"Do you really think someone could do that... to themselves...?" Teddy asked Adriana.

Midge covers her face, her teeth gritted and eyes shut. Silently, tears fall from her face and onto the ground.

"Not like this. Please, not like this," she whispers between heavy breaths.

She pulls her hands away after sometime and looks at the victims.

"Remember that article we found on 'The Dissector?' Maybe this is about that for some reason. "

"N-No....Blight-Z always kills....at exactly 9 hours..." Bradley panted checking his watch and giving a worrying look at Adriana. "M-Maybe we shouldn't have split up?" he uttered quietly. Bradley looked over the garden with an expression of intense sadness before going to wash some of the mess off himself in the stream. "Lets...let's search them...maybe there's a clue to what happened here."

"Bradley, I don't think you should..." Adriana then seemed to think better than her objection. "I... I guess trying to shield you from this is going to cost us time we don't have... Sorry..."

She began to go over the corpses as delicately as she could.

Helios looked like he was trying very hard to not vomit, but it was clear that he would have had plenty of reasons to.

"Is anyone here even...capable of inspecting...that?" He said hoarsely, not noticing that Adriana had already done so.

"It's g-gotta be that serial k-killer, right? Are they...here? Midge...you were homeless, right?" He asked, Turning to the woman. "Do you know anything?"

Adriana turned her head to Helios. "I... I know, but... we're dying. What choice do we have but to try?"

"What the fuck," Teddy repeated at Midge's suggestion. This time, it was punctuated with a cough of blood. "Does that mean one of us is the Dissector...?"

Bradley idly picked through the remains of Albert, his eyes clearly indicating he was away elsewhere. "What's 'the Dissector'?" he asked.

"I don't think one of us is the Dissector, though Albert certainly seemed kind of demented," Midge says, quietly biting back tears.

"I don't know anything about that murderer aside from the article. I mean, I'm homeless that's true, but as that turns out, it's more difficult to stay on top of the news while homeless," she shrugs at Helios.

Midge covers her mouth and goes to inspect the gore.

"B-But who else would c-cut up a body like that?" Violet managed to stammer out before coughing up more blood. "I mean, maybe a psycho l-like Albert would, but he's dead too!"

"He could just be playing dead," Midge says, tapping her head. "I mean, he wouldn't have to go very far with his guts hanging out since he could have just cut himself open here and dropped them on the ground."

Midge grimaces at the mess in front of her, but she doesn't hesitate to move organs, as disgusting as it is.
