Not giving two hecks about RPing, Albert enters the following pseudocode onto the screen:

Code:
move_first_two(str):
  if len(str)<2:
   print ('ERROR')
  else:
    return str[2:]+str[:2]

Ding!

The sixth screen and main computer turn on. It seems like the main computer is taking time to boot.

The sixth screen reads:

Spoiler:
You've reached the end.

The username is [first-letter-of-first-name.last-name]. It's a name close to us.

"Can someone search that Null conditional statement thing to see if there's a question for 'are you a human' or whatever?" Ghost asked. "If there's one there then we have our answer for why Null answered the way she did. Unless this is just another lie."

"Sure thing!" Helios rushed over to the terminal. "Ooof...ctrl+f is disabled. Sorry Ghost, no dice." He sighed. "Oh wait. I see it. Yeah, it's like the others. Null is meant to respond to that question by saying she's human."

"S-so, what...? Who could this be referring to? Me? That would make the username..."AB", I think. Or just "A" if they only want it from the first name but then it wouldn't make sense."

Hearing Ghost's suggestion he nods. "I-I'll check it out!"

...He gets sniped by Helios. Oops.

Midge stands by Albert, not offering much help until the last screen shows up.

"Oh a name, huh? We should try everyone's, yeah!"

Albert accidentally dropped the walkie-talkie.

"Ow." Ghost said, before Albert quickly picked it back up.

"Yeah, trying everyone would be our best bet," Helios said, "Unless it's one of the people from those articles we saw... but I can't remember if those articles had any specific names..."

After Albert dropped the walky-talky, Helios stared at it. "Uhh... Something's fishy here..."

"Actually, here's another idea," Ghost spoke up again. Apparently the knock to their walkie-talkie had sparked something. "Close to *us*... close to U.S., maybe? Helios?"

"W-wait, G-Ghost? I only dropped the walkie talkie… why did you react like you got hurt just now?" Albert gives the walkie talkie a strange look. "A-ah, but I guess that makes sense? T-try it", he says to Helios.

Finally, the main computer turned on. However, it soon became clear that there wasn’t much they could with it.

“Doesn’t make sense.” Teddy grumbled. “If there’s a computer that operates this place, this has to be the one!”

“It’s not meant to do anything besides give a display.” Albert sighed. “All we can do is connect to a remote server, that’s probably where the game has its operations.”

Albert played around with the terminal a bit. The computer displayed a message.

“Connecting….Failed. Retry?”

Albert clicked retry, only to get the same failure message.

“Why is it failing?” Bradley asked. It seemed he had just arrived.

“Bad connection, permissions...could be anything.” Albert grumbled.

“What the fuck, Albert?!” Teddy screamed. “We have to connect to get out of here!”

“I told you, we can’t do anything!”

Tensions were beginning to boil. Teddy grabbed for his gun, Albert did the same.

“W-Wait!” Violet shouted, words falling on deaf ears. “Don’t!”

“I got it!” Bradley smiled.

“...huh?”

“I just clicked ‘retry’ a few more times.”

Albert frowned, looking at the computer. It was on a login screen now.

“What’s a remote server?” Bradley asked.

“It’s like...the screen we’re looking at actually belongs to a server somewhere else. We’re just displaying it on this screen.”

“So if we can login…would we be able to call for help?”

“If it’s a normal computer...yeah. We're probably meant to figure out the username from that hint, so that narrows things down, especially our guesses. But the password can be anything.”

Teddy turned to Emma, thumbing his hand at the screen. “Do you know the login?”

Emma looked skeptical but went up to the login screen, typing something in. It failed.

“What the hell was that?”

“I just used my CDC credentials. It didn’t work.”

Teddy glared at Emma, like he was studying her. He repeated his question. “Do you know the login?”

“No.” She sighed, looking frustrated.

"This whole game. These servers, this building...it screams that this place belongs to the CDC."

"I-It could easily be a coincidence, right?" Violet looked warily at Emma.

"It is a coincidence."

Helios frowned at Emma, and looked at her closely. “...she’s lying.”

“What?!” Midge shouted. “No she isn’t!”

“She is.” Teddy agreed.

“I’m not lying. I don’t know.”

Teddy pulled out a gun, pointing it under her chin. “You remember now?”

“H-Hold on!” Midge shouted. She walked over to the computer, entering a login. It failed.

“What the fuck?!” Albert yelled. “We can’t enter stuff willy-nilly, we only have three tries before we’re locked out.”

Teddy was sweating. Everybody was getting sicker just standing around...and they were running out of time.

“You have ten seconds...or I’m painting your brains all over the server.”

“Teddy, I promise. I don’t know.”

“Nine.”

“You can’t kill me off of a hunch.”

“Eight.”

Emma gulped. “I-I’m not scared of you.”

Teddy grabbed her head and slammed her against a table, pressing the gun hard against her temple. “Seven.”

“Leave her alone!” Midge ran at Teddy, but Helios grabbed her by the waist and held her close. She writhed, trying to get free.

“Six.”

"I-Is everything alright there?" Ghost asked.

“Stop wasting time, Teddy!” Helios yelled. “Get on with it!”

Five.

“I don’t know anything!” Emma shouted frantically, tears now welling up in her eyes.

“Four.”

“Tell us the password!” Helios demanded.

“Three.”

“Stop it!” Violet shouted. Bradley was screaming too.

“Two.”

Albert pulled out a gun, pointing it at Teddy. “I-I’ll shoot, Teddy! D-Do-don’t make me!”

Teddy paid no attention to Albert. “One.” He tightened his finger on the trigger.

"You may be okay with that, but I am not. I won't vote for someone with so much life ahead of her as the leader without knowing what that entails." Adriana turned.

"Oh she's probably right. This is really dangerous. Curse this wicked place.” Midge whispered. “Well, I'm willing to trust someone else. I just can't tell who else I can trust in this situation..."

“W-Wait!” Violet shouted. Her face was white, like she had just seen a ghost. “Maybe uh...don’t vote for me?”

“I thought we just finished voting!” Albert shouted. “Are you kidding?”

“...we should vote for Helios, Midge, or Teddy.”

“But...we just voted for you?” Adriana was perplexed. “Why those people…?”

“I just got...a feeling. Like a voice whispering to me.”

“Sounds...strange.” Helios frowned. “Though I won’t argue against any resignation in a battle.”

“Uh...I think there’s something else.” Violet held her head in pain. “There are voting rules too. They go like…”

Violet then went on to explain the voting rules as we know them, more or less. Including how the leaders pick teams.

“So out of those three people...it does matter who gets the second most amount of votes?” Teddy pondered.

“How do you know all this?” Bradley was curious.

“...maybe Null whispered it to me while asleep?”

“Are we really gonna just take her word on this…?” Ghost asked. “Well, not that I have any reason to doubt it, and it would be far from the most unusual thing that’s happened with our present circumstance....”

“Can you guys just leave me alone?!” Violet shouted. “I’m pretty sure something bad will happen if we vote for anyone else, so let’s just do this okay?!”

Bradley eyed Violet with concern "I mean...if you are sure Violet. I-I voted for you as leader anyway so if this is what you think is best..."

He turned and looked at the other prospective candidates.

"Very well! I vote for Mr Helios!"

"There's no shame in stepping aside." Adriana placated. "If... you don't want the vote, then there should be no objections... I'll vote Helios, I suppose." she said, as if her choice was somehow random.

"Well, I'm not sure where Violet got all of this information, but if she's correct, then the person who we elect isn't actually too important." Helios said, "Still, I'm satisfied with all of these candidate choices."

"In any case, I vote for myself."

"Huh? This system seems kind of arbitrary," Midge frowns. "I guess it doesn't matter much though, if that's right."

She crosses her arms with resignation. "Thanks very much for voting for me, Violet. Seems like Helios has this election in the bag though, as usual. I'll vote for myself, since obviously I don't feel so great about voting for Helios after his stunt."

Bradley gasped "On right! The lamp! I'd completely forgotten about all that suspicious stuff!" He said looking up at the remains of the light fixture.

"You make a fair point Miss Midge. I change my vote to Miss Midge" he said quickly running over to Midge as a physical representation of his vote.

Suddenly, a lamp fell from the balcony and hit Helios on the head. It shattered into two pieces, falling to the ground uselessly before breaking. Helios stood firm, holding the end of the lamp's power cord, completely unharmed.

Helios laughed amicably, proud at his GM-ordained proof of innocence. "Unless you all want to have a turn, I think it's safe to say that no one's doing any murdering with these lamps."

Everyone felt very embarrassed about being so annoying about the lamp which was literally just a joke and decided to never mention it again.

"I mean, maybe it was an accident and that you literally knew you weren't ever being irresponsible ever, but you're not really making me feel more comfortable with your leadership doing stuff like that in a situation like this," Midge grumbles bitterly.

She smiles at the kids, and now Albert.

"Thanks you guys. I'll be sure to do whatever I need to do to keep everyone safe, win or lose, even if that means risking my skin."

Bradley puts on his thinking cap "That's all well and good but we have no proof that the original lamp you broke was so harmless. That lamp could have been a fake!"

"Look, Helios is an okay guy hopefully, but his defense of himself amounts to him telling us he was irresponsible and not malicious in going up there and flailing around in the first place, which I think shows that he doesn't really understand me or my concerns at all. I'm just looking for a leader, right now, who can lay claim to a little bit of a higher prestige than that, and Violet already said it's not the job for her," Midge says steadily, staring at Ghost with concerned eyes and clutching her hands together.

"I'm sorry if I'm stressing you guys out, but this what I feel is right."

"Precisely," Helios said, brushing the pieces of the lamp towards the wall to join the lamp-which-shall-not-be-named, which looked exactly the same as the other lamp in every way possible. "Hey, I'm not gonna throw the guy under the bus after he takes my side," Helios said, "I'm just trying to show some respe--"

Suddenly one of the lamps on the ceiling breaks free from the few flimsy, rusted screws keeping it attached to the ceiling and falls to the ground. It smacks Helios right on the head, throwing him to the ground with a pained cry.

Helios stands up, rubbing the back of his head. "Ow... my head. What were we talking about again? Oh, yeah, Violet said to vote for me, Mr. Bianchi, or Midge. I'll vote for myself, then."

Helios smiled blissfully, unaware that he had lost all memory of the last eighteen posts.

I did not intend to do anybody any harm, as all I intended to do in going up there was living out a little bit of a fantasy of mine that involves talking on a balcony to a crowd and accidentally bumped the lamp which was right on the edge. It's horrifying to me that anyone could have been hurt, and I'm sorry that I did not immediately explain what happened to you all so that you could feel safe, I was trying to keep everyone calm by telling them to forget about it, but I can see how that didn't really address any concerns head on. If I could do the situation over again, I definitely would have carefully and safely joined the group immediately when Null started saying something so that everyone could feel safe and be safe, and I think from now on I'm going to be very mindful of the well-being of all of you. In that situation, I was very irresponsible, and thank you Midge for holding me accountable. Again, I understand the level of distrust I caused, and I absolutely promise this is the last time I'll ever do something like this,' or something, oh he's not even listening, wow."

The leaders seemed to be decided:

Midge would get the first and fourth pick.
Helios would choose between the second and sixth or third and fifth pick, with Teddy getting the alternative.

"Huh, what, already?" Helios shouted incredulously. "I would have preferred we discussed this more before we all silently put votes in, but alright. According to Violet, it won't matter much anyway."

Helios turned to Teddy. "Mr. Bianchi, would you be willing to take third and fifth? I don't want to be the one who leaves some poor soul to be picked last."
