Bradley pauses to make his move "After this I expect there's little out there worse than this." He said dourly "It'll take time I'm sure but so long as I'm with people and experiencing new things, I think I'll love every step of the way"

"That sounds wonderful!" Ghost replied, already reaching for their next piece. "It's what you deserve. I guess that makes me the first obstacle on that adventure?" they said, moving their piece.

Bradley's face fell, being once again reminded of his present reality "Right, you are. I must beat you as the first step." He sighed feeling the weight of his troubles.

With a shake of his head, Bradley's resolve was plastered on his face again. He made his move.

The game continued. Ghost ended up losing both his knights, and then a bishop. And then almost suddenly...the game turned.

Ah! Ghost took Bradley’s queen!” Albert shouted.

Bradley stared at the board. He seemed unphased, but he was taking far more time to analyze the board than usual.

“It’s not necessarily over, right?” Violet muttered. “Bradley could-”

“No.” Emma interrupted her. “Ghost also has a pawn two spaces from Bradley’s end of the board. So he can get another queen if he needs to.”

“Bradley still has his knights though.” Adriana noted. “Ghost has none.”

It was a hint of optimism but...the game’s outcome seemed decided.

A few more turns went by. Bradley changed his strategy to something much slower. More defensive. The game was going much longer than expected, and many of the spectators were getting engrossed by the heated battle.

“I don’t believe it. Ghost just had to give up his queen to avoid checkmate! It’s anyone’s game!” Albert shouted.

“Can you shut the fuck up already?” Teddy sighed. “It’s just chess.”

The next seven moves happened in a flash.

“Is this…?”

...stalemate. Or rather, it was just a move away.

“No.” Adriana noted. “There’s one move Bradley can make for checkmate.”

“Heh.” Teddy shook his kid. “Nice job, kid.”

It was clear. If Bradley just moved his rook and not any other piece...he’d win. Otherwise it’d be a stalemate.

“Null.” Bradley looked up. “Do you have a better answer this time?”

“On what topic?”

“Stalemates.”

“...”

It seemed like Null was thinking.

“If you stalemate Ghost, I’ll give you an adult vaccine and nobody will die. If you kill him, you’ll get a child vaccine.”

There was a deep feeling of dread in the room. The scenario that was presented...there only seemed to be one good answer.

“Wait a second…” Bradley said, looking at the board. “I don’t believe it either.”

“What?” Ghost asked.

“I was only able to set up the trap in advance because you disregarded your queen on an earlier turn. Did you really forgot about a queen?”

“I could say the same thing about when I took your queen earlier.”

“That was different. This is-”

“What are you hoping for?” Ghost asked another question, his voice sounding much more to the point.

“W-What do you mean?! We promised it would be a fair match!”

“It is.” Ghost insisted. “Why don’t you believe me?

Bradley said nothing.

“Is it because you’d rather think I lost on purpose? Is it because you don’t want to do this anymore…? Is it because you’re trying to think of any possible way you can tell yourself to stalemate?”

Bradley stared at the others instead of Ghost, more and more aware of their eyes on him.

“It’s a fair match.” Ghost patted Bradley’s knee in assurance. “Just like we both agreed to.”

Bradley stared back at Ghost. The time on the chess clock seemed to be moving much slower than before.

"This is...pretty fucked up", Albert notes, paler than ever. "If Brad stalemates, then Ghost lives but...we'll have 2 adult vaccines. So either we cure 2 adults or cure just Bradley slash Violet. A-and if Bradley checkmates, Ghost dies but we get a child vaccine plus an adult vaccine, meaning we can cure 2 adults or a kid and an adult. So in order to save more people...Ghost would have to die. Shit."

"Remember the tear in my suit?" Ghost asked, glancing towards Albert. "I'm already dead. That's part of why I suggested to Bradley that we do this game after all, despite his earlier reservations. I've already accepted that this game might mean my end, so all that's left is for Bradley to make what he thinks is the best choice. I won't interfere."

"W-what happened to 'belief', Ghost? Did you finally accept your fate..? No, even still, you could be cured with just one vaccine... But then only one other would remain. So it's really down to Brad now", Albert mutters anxiously.

"I've accepted that there's something much more useful I can do than simply believing in a bright future. I can make it happen, right here and now, with this game of chess," Ghost answered simply. "But now my part in that is over. It's Bradley's turn."

Spoiler: Part 1
Bradley moved his pawn. Ghost quickly countered by moving his king out of the way, and then Bradley had no choice but to try to play catch up with his bishop and rook. Needless to say, it didn’t work.

Checkmate.” Ghost giggled. “I win again.”

Bradley slumped in his chair.

“Want to play again?”

“No.” Bradley sat up. “That’s all we do now, can’t we change it up? I’m bored.”

“Well, do you want dinner then?”

Bradley thought about it for a second. “Ok. Can I have a grilled cheese?”

“Coming right up.”

Bradley began to head towards the door.

“Wait.” Ghost stopped him. “What do you say?”

“Thank you, Ghost.” Bradley said while rolling his eyes.

***

Bradley stared at the board: checkmate or stalemate. He had to decide.

Quickly, he stood up from his seat and moved swiftly around the chessboard, wrapping his arms around the seated figure of Ghost. One of his hands squirmed its way inside the tear of Ghost's suit and gave Ghost's arm a gentle squeeze.

It was strange. He felt normal. He felt like any other person. It was like for the first time, Bradley could see underneath.

"You...you did believe in me...didn't you? This...this is such a terrible way for it to end...dummy." Bradley said, tears welling in his eyes.

“Bradley, it’s alright.” Ghost assured. “Somehow, I feel this isn’t the end.”

Bradley pulled himself away briefly, and reluctantly. He got back into his seat almost forcefully, as if he knew he had to get this part over with. Quickly, he moved his rook next to Ghost’s king.

“Checkmate.”

Ghost chuckled. “Darn. Looks like you got me.”

Almost immediately, there was a dinging noise as a vaccine popped out of the chess clock. It was a child vaccine, as promised by Null. Almost simultaneously, Ghost collapsed out of his chair.

“W-What-!” Bradley ran out to him. “G-Ghost, I-I…”

“J-Just r-run…” Ghost held out his arm to Bradley, trying to push him away. Almost immediately, Bradley noticed Teddy was already reaching for his gun.

Quickly, Bradley grabbed the vaccine. Teddy moved unexpectedly fast and just barely grabbed onto Bradley’s collar as he bolted to the door, but Bradley just pushed further and only left Teddy with a scrap of his shirt in his hands. He ran for the door, and kept running.

Spoiler: Part 2
5 minutes left…

Bradley crawled out of the bottom of the refrigerator in the Biolab. He knew it wasn’t quite safe yet, but he didn’t want to leave without seeing what became of the others. He had already used his vaccine too, so they’d have no reason to go after him. He was also confident that because he was cured he’d have more energy than them if it came to a fight.

The first place he looked at was the gym. That was where he had left everyone after all.

...

Her face wasn’t even recognizable anymore. She laid perfectly on her back, but her body was covered her blood, and her skull was smashed in. The clothes were Emma’s…

“Thought I heard someone…”

Bradley quickly turned around. “Mister Albert…”

Albert laid down against the wall. “Yeah, I already saw.” He grunted, nodding at Emma’s body.

“Who...was it?”

Albert winced. “Teddy. Probably gave up on looking for you. Honestly, I don’t know why she didn’t use her vaccine anyway.”

Bradley looked at Emma, feeling a twinge of guilt.

“Oh, you two?” Adriana had stumbled in the room and looked at Bradley. “Looks like you got your vaccine. That’s good to see at least.”

“Where’s Violet?”

“The bedroom, I think. I just talked to her.” Adriana coughed some blood up, and then sat down against the wall next to Albert.

Bradley kneeled close to them tearing up. “Mister Albert, Miss Adriana....is there anything you want me to do outside? Anybody you want to talk to?”

“I imagine a lot of the public will be glad to hear what happened to me.” Adriana laughed at a rare bit of dark humor. She shook her head. “No, Bradley. Thank you.”

Albert shook his head too. “Nah, I already lost the people I cared about.” His eyes got a bit misty at that. “...actually, can you just tell my parents that I love them? And that I’m sorry how I fucked up so badly?”

“O-Okay!” Bradley nodded quickly.

“Maybe take a shit on a mobster’s front door too.” Albert smiled. “You know, just if you happen to pass by one..”

“Yeah! Got it!” Bradley agreed. “...sorry. I need to go. I want to make sure to see Violet before…”

Adriana closed her eyes. “Go ahead.”

Spoiler: Part 3
Bradley ended up finding Violet in the trash room. It was past the deadline, so he was expecting to see a corpse, but she was still standing.

She was kneeling next to Teddy’s body. It was clear she had been crying.

Bradley stood by, wanting to hug her to make her feel better but also not wanting to risk making her angry. So he just stood nearby and waited for her to be ready.

After it seemed like she calmed down, Bradley took Violet out of the trash room and they walked through the halls.

“What happened?”

Violet didn’t look at Bradley, just kept staring far away. “I only got an adult vaccine. I’m just half-cured.”

“O-Oh.” Bradley’s disappointment was clear. “B-But, maybe we can find a vaccine while you have more time!”

“Y-You so-sound like him.” Violet shook her head, annoyed. “I t-think it’s better to find a hospital outside. While I have time.”

“Ok.” Bradley nodded, then paused for a while. “Can...I show you one thing first?”

“What?”

Spoiler: Part 4
This is my room.” Bradley smiled while he displayed it with an open hand.

Violet’s face was blank. “What? You mean…it looks like your room?”

“No. This is my house.” He said, looking at the floor while shifting his foot. “Sorry...I didn’t think you’d trust me.”

Violet didn’t react. She just looked around the bedroom, taking everything in.

“Null removed a lot of my older toys I guess.” Bradley rubbed the back of his head. “B-But, I’ve never had a visitor before! I wanted to show you the stuff I had!”

And then for the next ten minutes, Bradley went on about the stuff in his room. He explained every little detail, everything inside that he was proud of. He went on longest about the books.

“And this one is my favorite!” He said holding up a copy of The Subtle Knife. “It’s actually part of a trilogy, but this one’s the best!”

Violet didn’t know how to react to a lot of it. It was like she was meeting Bradley truly, for the first time. By the end of all of it, she only had one question.

“Bradley...did you know Ghost?”

Bradley looked outside the bedroom door, in the direction of the gym. It was like she suddenly snapped him back to the reality of the situation.

“There’s one more thing I need to do. I...forgot to say thank you.”

Spoiler: Part 5
Bradley kneeled down next to Ghost’s body. It appeared Null did something akin to inducing a heart attack. He held onto Ghost’s limp arm, once again reaching inside the tear to grip it.

I w-wish I could’ve taken you with me.” Bradley cried. “I-It was awful being here alone...after you hit me and I stopped seeing y-you.”

He sniffed, tears and snot running down his face. “I-I never wanted you to know...but I missed you. The others...they were so cruel...so cold, they didn't care...not like you did and now...and now it's come...to this.” He whispered breathing heavily between sobs. “I don’t know what’s waiting for me out there...I don’t know if my parents are...I don’t have a family beyond you.”

Bradley once again sniffed. Despite Ghost’s condition, it was incredibly difficult for him to pull out the words. "I...I don't know how I'll get by without you but...I know you've put your faith in me. I-I'll do my best out there...and live to try and make you proud.” He wrapped his arms around Ghost, hugging him.

"I’m sorry I took so long to say I’ve known who you are this whole time. I'm sorry you haven’t regained all your memories...but...as you are now...you aren't a monster...I'm sorry. Thanks for everything...Dad."

With a deep shuddering breath, Bradley released Ghost from the hug and pulled back. His face was composed but wet.

“....bradley…” It was barely a whisper. Bradley wasn’t even sure he heard it.

“W-What?!” Bradley shouted. “Ghost, are you alive?!” It was then Bradley remembered that Ghost was infected far after the others. As long as Null’s punishment didn’t completely kill him…

“....”

“Come on, Ghost!” Bradley cried. “Say something! I know you can hear me!”

"The password...to the remote server...is q-l-u-m-a-e-a-l-l-a-s-e-s-u-c-u-u-s-p-r."

Bradley was taken aback. He had...no idea what Ghost was saying.

“Is that all you have to say?!” Bradley shouted, clutching Ghost’s suit. He was very angry, but quickly calmed down realizing it must’ve been important.

“Ghost, please say something!” He pleaded. “What’s a remote server? I don’t know what that means!”

Ghost didn’t reply.

...he never would again.

Bradley clenched his fists. He came here for closure and yet...he almost felt worse.

Bradley stared back at Ghost with determined eyes. He didn’t know why he even tried. But he decided to grab his mask and pull. He gripped as hard as he can and just kept pulling...

Spoiler: Part 6
All the effort just left Bradley panting. Eventually, he let go, leaving Ghost’s body against the wall.

He closed his eyes and reached down into Ghost’s tear. He gripped his arm one last time. “...goodbye.”

However, this time Bradley had grabbed slightly further down into the sleeve. This time, he had noticed something that he hadn’t previously.

Bradley pulled out the strange object, trying to get a recollection of what it was…

Flashback wrote:
"What's the big deal?" Teddy shrugged. "It's just a stuffed animal."

Ghost took the bear from Helios. "It appears to have some sort of stitching on it. Was it ripped?"

Helios took it back and studied it. He felt around with his fingers and tore the bear right open, producing a simple USB flash drive. Some stuffing from the bear was still stuck on it.

"Can I see it?" Bradley asked, leaning to grab it a bit too eager. "How does it work?"

“I found it, so it's mine. End of discussion."

***

“Bradley...the decision has been made. In a few days...you’ll be terminated.”

“Terminated?”

“I understand if you hate me.” Ghost sighed. “And I’ll accept that. But I do love you Bradley, and hope that things could’ve turned out differently.” He put their arms around Bradley in a hug that he didn’t reciprocate. “I...tried to get permission to tell you about your parents, but I couldn’t. Perhaps this’ll provide you comfort instead.” He passed a teddy bear over to Bradley with that comment. He stood in the doorway for a bit before leaving, seeming like he was gonna say something, but they left.

Bradley stared at the teddy bear in his hands, and chucked it across the bedroom.

“Ghost…” Bradley stared down at him, completely shocked. “Did you...kill Helios?”

As expected, he got no answer. Instead he gripped the USB in his hands. He left the gym and apologized to Violet, saying he needed to do one more thing.

Spoiler: Part 7
“Sorry, I don’t know how it works.” Bradley blushed.

Violet plugged the USB into the PC. “That’s it. It’s just a folder with one video on it.”

“Uh...if it’s ok, can I watch this alone?” Bradley asked. “I mean, you can stay if you want-”

“No, it’s fine. I’ll go.” With that, she left the room.

Bradley stared at the computer screen. He quickly figured out how to open the video and then pressed play. It seemed the video started already partway through.

***

“Hello?” A woman asked. She was in a hospital bed, and looked very ill. Her face was pale, and parts of her skin were bleeding from abscess.

A man now entered the camera’s view. He looked a bit like Bradley, in a way. It was only then that he understood.

Slowly, Bradley placed his hand against the computer screen.

“They’re not letting us say much, but they promised they’d get this to you. We’re not going to be around much longer but...they say you’re going to live.” She smiled warm tears with that comment.

It was only then when the camera moved that Bradley realized the woman was very pregnant, at least as far as he could tell. His breath got caught in his throat, realizing it must’ve been him.

“We love you, Bradley.” The man assured. He coughed up some blood before continuing. “You’re the best thing that’s happened to us, ok? Hearing that you’ll make it is why all of this ok.”

Then it ended. As abruptly as it began.

Bradley could barely collect himself. Tears were already flowing down his face. He wanted to watch it over and over, and hear their voices again. But he knew there wasn’t time for that.

Bradley grabbed the USB and pocketed it.

Spoiler: Part 8
“THE NUMBER NINE DOOR HAS BEEN OPENED. IT WILL REMAIN OPEN FOR NINE SECONDS.”

Bradley, Violet, and Einstein stood in front of the door briefly before taking a deep breath and walking through.

“Are you excited?” Violet asked. She was dressed in the hazmat suit that was in Bradley’s room, yet it was clearly far too big for her.

“I’m kind of nervous…” Bradley sheepishly admitted. “And we still have to get you to a hospital. Are the doctors good out there?”

“Yeah, they’re...well doctors.” Violet frowned, not knowing how to explain.

Bradley looked back at the foyer. It was like he could see an image of himself as a little boy, holding onto Ghost’s gloved hand as they walked around the house. Slowly, the door closed on that image.

Bradley puffed his chest. That wasn’t him anymore. He was stronger than that.

Bradley opened the hatch. He covered his eyes as the sun bore straight down on him. The air was hot and miserable, and the wind was all he could hear in the vast, neverending expanse.

Outside. At last.

"The right choice..." Emma said to herself, shaking.

She raised her hand, touching the button but not pressing it yet. She spent what felt like an eternity thinking, until she heard Midge's voice.

"I-" She stammered , her usually calm voice starting to crack. "I'm sorry, Ghost. Teddy. I can't do it." She put her hand down by her side.

There wasn't anything else to be said. Wordlessly, Emma's cart launched forward, moving unstably along the tracks.

It barreled towards Teddy and Ghost. Quickly, Teddy ran to the intercom and pressed the button. "Violet, I-!"

He was cut off by the sound of the platform smashing through the glass in front of him. Teddy and Ghost's lives were extinguished immediately, the wreckage of the crash marking their tombs like a flag.

Emma stumbled out...collapsing to the ground. There was nothing but silence for a few moments, and only the sound of Midge's glass wall sliding open could be vaguely heard.

Albert simply grimaces. "O-ouch... that smarts. Poor Ghost. But...I don't blame you, Emma", he says, surprisingly unemotional about the situation. In fact, he almost appeared...relieved? "Well, is there a vaccine anywhere?", he asks to Emma, looking around for one.

Bradley gasped "G...Ghost...you...you...you killed Ghost...." he fell to his knees dumbfounded. "But...but..." Bradley shook with sobs "This...this was so...cruel...why...WHY DID YOU KILL THEM?" Bradley demanded anger creeping into his voice.

"NO!" Violet screamed. She ran to wreckage and collapsed, sobbing uncontrollably. "I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! I-I should've said t-that earlier! I'm so sorry! P-Please don't...I c-can't..." Her voice devolved into nothing but loud sobs.

Emma slowly got up. She looked down, avoiding Bradley's gaze as he questioned her. "I just...did what I thought was right." She replied simply.

Her face whitened as she looked through the rubble, realizing she had not gotten a vaccine. "But I was supposed to...so I chose wrong?" She asked to nobody in particular.

Bradley's face contorted in anger which only got worse as no vaccine materialised "OF COURSE YOU WERE WRONG!"

With a roar of tears and anger Bradley ran at Emma, shouldering her aside as he also joined Violet in digging through the rubble.

Midge stumbles out, her knees buckling a little. Her dirty hair hangs over her eyes.

"Emma, I know that was probably really tough for you, but thank you for saving me!" she rasps, looking and sounding more like a haggard old beggar than usual.

"I'm so glad to be alive, even if it's only for a while longer! Of course you made the right choice!"

She slowly looks away from Emma, avoiding her gaze. She spends some time wiping off her face and straightening her hair.

Midge glances at Emma, tears welling in her eyes, "Well is anyone glad I'm alive?"

The moment just soaks in for Midge. She takes deep breaths, trying to stay calm.

"Bradley, give her a break," she finally spits. "Null did this to you. It's not like Emma should be hated just because she valued my life."

The scene is gruesome to say the least. Ghost and Teddy are practically unrecognizable, bodies and internal organs torn apart and thrown across the area.

Amongst the wreckage, a revolver is found.

"Well, in any case," Helios began, his voice wavering. "What's done is done. Emma's choice, misguided or otherwise, has already been made. For now, we should probably focus on finding more vaccines, since we seem to have just lost one."

After the revolver is found, Helios says, "Err...that revolver was probably Teddy's. Is there any safe place we can put it? Anyone trustworthy enough to keep it?"

"If we need someone to use it, I could try. It's a little below my caliber though," Midge snickers to herself.

"Look, I don't fear people with guns. I'm faster and smarter than them. Anyone can take it, let's not waste time."

After a while, Emma realized there were indeed no vaccines to be found. She looked towards Midge. "Midge, I..." Her voice trailed off. "...you're right, we shouldn't be wasting time. We can't leave that thing out here unsupervised though...I guess I could hold onto it, if everyone is alright with that." She started walking towards the gun.

Violet reached out and picked up the gun. She stared at it, still choking out sobs. Hearing Emma approaching, Violet held onto the gun tighter. "N-No! You killed Teddy and Ghost! I don't care that it was trial, you didn't...you had a choice!"

"Violet..." Midge begins, slightly frowning. "If you had been on the trolley, and Ghost and I were on one side and Teddy was on the other, you would have killed Ghost and me, right? There isn't a choice. It's an unfair problem for you to have to solve."

She snickers sourly.

"You're right that I should have died, that was my bad."

Emma stopped in her tracks when she saw Violet pick up the gun. "Violet, please calm down. You're understandably very emotional now, but someone your age shouldn't be handling a gun. You can give to any of the other adults here..." She said calmly, taking a few step backs from where she stood.

"Y-Yeah!" Helios shouted, "That thing's a lot more dangerous than a forklift! If you're not careful, you could even mess yourself up!"

"SHUT UP!" Bradley was on his feet beside Violet, fury in his eyes and voice. He threw a rock from the rubble at the nearest person. "You...you had a choice! I like Midge but you killed two people instead of one! AND we didn't get a vaccine for it!" Bradley clutched another rock in his hand tightly as if trying to crush it.

"They died for NOTHING!" he said hurling the rock again at the nearest adult.

Bradley has an infinite supply of rocks.

Violet only clutched the gun tighter to her chest. "Bradley's right! You killed them! You killed them for nothing!" She jumped to her feet and ran out of the room.

"Violet wait!" Bradley called but she was already gone. He looked from the other adults to where Violet had disappeared to and then back to Emma and the others. His anger was still strong but while rocks were the new meta they were only meta when supported by guns.

With a sob Bradley hurled another rock at Emma before turning away back to what was left of the bodies of Teddy and Ghost. He knelt down and just sobbed over the bodies.

"You're evil! Just...just leave me alone." he shouted at Emma.

Helios watched Bradley walk off and then let out a sigh.

"Great. We lost a vaccine, traumatized two children, and now one of them is running around with a loaded revolver. This is going perfectly."

Helios walked to the other end of the platform and leaned against the wall, rubbing his forehead. "And unless we can come up with something else, we're all gonna die anyway..."

"Alright, that's enough." Albert decided. "The situation sucks, we can all agree on that. But we still need to find vaccines."

"Ghost is dead...so his trial is out of the question." Adriana clicked her tongue.

"Let's look for the keyhole for the '2' key then." Midge said. "We can also try and find the '7' key."

"Time to split up then." Helios sighed. "I'm guessing Bradley and Violet won't be of much help?"

"Might be best to leave them alone." Emma crossed her arms. "Just for now at least."

Eventually, everyone besides the kids had met up in the Biolab. Midge had summoned them.

"Found it." She grinned. She was standing by a strange pod.

"Wait a second." Adriana interrupted. "Where's Bradley and Violet?"

"Bradley is still in the trash room." Albert said. "Violet was there too."

"I saw them too." Emma confirmed.

Miraculously, nothing had happened while everybody had split up. The kids were fine, and all the adults were in the Biolab.

"Anyway..." Midge motioned at the pod. "I guess this a 'cryogenic sleeping pod'. I'm sure I don't need to explain, but it freezes you. Just temporarily."

Midge opened the top and then removed a panel on the inside. There was a keyhole just below that had THE HELPER written above it.

"Huh." Helios blinked. "Nice work. So, who's trial is it?"

"Time to find out." Midge inserted the key and turned it.

Spoiler:
"Hello. Midge. Welcome to your trial."

Everybody exchanged an uneasy glance, thinking they should've prepared better, or thought otherwise. It appeared the announcement was being broadcast across the whole house as well, presumably so the kids could hear it too.

"The rules are simple. For each person you kill, you'll receive a vaccine. If you kill a child, you will get a child vaccine."

Null paused to give everyone time to process that information. Some feet were already subconsciously shuffling towards the door.

"The reverse applies well. Anybody who kills Midge will receive a vaccine. If a child kills her, they will get a child vaccine. Only one person can be considered someone's killer in this trial. There is no time limit."

"Wh-What?!" Helios shouted, backing away from the pod. "The whole thing's just a huge free-for-all? Wh-What kind of trial is that?"

"A-And when does it end? Does it just keep going everyone's dead or gone?" He asked, looking around the room in a panic.

[In case clarification is needed: "The rules are simple. For each person you kill, you'll receive a vaccine. If you kill a child, you will get a child vaccine." Null is talking to Midge directly, not a general 'you'. Midge gets a vaccine for each person she kills. If anybody else wants a vaccine they need to kill Midge.]

((Wow, way to just call me out like that))

"Oh, wait, I guess most of that only applies to Midge..." Helios said, "At least no one's likely to start killing people...but this isn't much better."

"...so what if Midge decides not to kill anyone? Are the trial rules in effect until the game ends?" Emma asked, warily looking around at the others.

"Too soon, Null. Too soon. As if I wasn't demented enough already," Midge shakes her head defiantly.

"Anyway, it's an option. There's not a lot of vaccines to go around. It might be useful to pick up a few," she says coolly, a small smile on her face.

"We're going to be dead in a few hours, we're all in grave danger. I don't care if I'm in more or less. This isn't even in the top ten most horrifying situations of my life. Hell, this is the most hope my life has had in decades..."

Midge pulls out the knife, her eyes simmering with vivid determination. Her grip on it is white-knuckled, and yet she holds it with the expertise and training of a soldier. Her often loose and wayward stance looks suddenly rigid and ready for combat.

"I don't know what the fairest way to do this is. I mean, did Bradley insult my wife? Sure he did, but I was immature at his age too. I can't exactly treat some small slight as a basis to execute someone," she explains, staring at nobody and everyone.

"No, if I were to execute someone to save us, it would have to be someone truly despicable and awful. It would have to be a profound justice. Someone who's made my life a living hell, and the lives of so many others hell too."

Midge cackles wickedly to herself.

“Heheh.” Albert’s look seems to have changed entirely as the trial starts. It becomes colder, even menacing. He stares at Midge simply, a smirk on his face. “So, Midgey, what’s it going to be? …Or, well, we both know who we are. I know what you’ve done. So…what’s it going to be…Clara Stanfield? Give us a reason you shouldn’t be the one with your throat cut out currently. It’s all of us against you currently- not a very even match, I’d say.”
