"Keep... what up?" Nina tilts her head. She pats the side of her neck.

"Make sure to hit my jugular, okay?"

"...Hey, Adam, where'd you get this one anyways..?" Nicos sighed, keeping his blade tucked away.

"I was not the one who personally selected the Ultimates for Project Eden, if that is what you are asking."

"Ah! Then maybe it was Nic, who hand-picked us..?" Nicos asked, tilting his head. "Well, I'm glad you found me, what with my stunning talent and good looks..! On top of that, you don't need to hire guards when you got good ol' Nicos to protect everyone!"

"Just dont let someone provoke ya into something you might regret." He tilted his head towards nina as an example.
"And Nina ya should stop goading people" he said with a harsh tone. "Ain't nothing wrong with a good brawl once in a while but no need to provoke people to do it."

"Yeah, whatever," Marshall mumbles at the robot, clearly annoyed at its response to the trolley problem.

"If I see Nicos stab someone I'm going to need a lot of convincing to think it's anything else other than his own fault, you know?" he says to Vic with the curling of a fist. "Nina is intense and all, but using a sword on anyone isn't going to be funny."

She stopped and looked at him, feeling somewhat embarrassed. "Uhhh.... I'm trying to find the secret of this train car, obviously." She held up the container. "Clearly this is the key to solving the puzzle. Maybe if you weren't such a numbnuts, you'd be able to see that." She smirked to hide her own shame.

In response, Taylor simply gave the most deadpan, "sure you are" look he could. He clearly wasn't convinced. "Uh-huh. And what secret do you think this train car would hold, then?" he asked, placing a hand on his hip, a small, amused smile forming on his face.

"..." Nina quietly slammed her fist into the wall. "It's just so... boring in here. My head, it's like it's stuck in a vice... it's THAT boring. If something doesn't happen soon, I'm gonna..."

"Listen, jackass. Nobody just has a storage car and does nothing with it. There is no doubt in my mind that there's something in here. Perhaps," she put a finger to her lips and raised an eyebrow, "there's something in here that will let us into the VIP rooms."

The girl smirked before continuing. "Wouldn't you like that? Just you, me, and a nice and cozy VIP room? Pfft..." She let out a snicker and looked away. "Or maybe I'm just reading too deep into this situation. Maybe this is just a storage room and that's it. But, I wouldn't be a collector if I didn't search far and wide for the most worthless things, now would I?"

"A VIP room would be nice, but somehow I doubt they'd leave the rights to it just lying around here. Just saying," Taylor replied with a shrug, ignoring her mention of them in a room together.

"But anyways, that's fair enough, I guess. You have fun with that." He began to pull his earbuds out of his hoodie's pocket, but stopped midway through, having a sudden thought. "... Though I have to admit that I am suspicious of something... I mean, there's this whole train, and yet there's no employees on it. No chefs, cleaners -- nothing at all. It's odd, don't you think? Could they be hiding something...?"

Before she could finish what she was going to say vic interrupted "Whatever it is just don't cause anyone else trouble, if ya need someone to throw a fist at then try me, just know Ill take that as a challenge." He smirked.

"Come on, Nina. You can tell us what you would do," smirks Marshall. "What has your life of apparent hardship taught you about what you should do when you're bored? I'm sure you've learned a lot of constructive habits for your free time at this point considering how often you must spend your time confined."

Nina scoffs.

"Well, I mean, when you spend all your time in solitary confinement, you'd want every second out of it to be the best time ever, right? The most fun I ever got in there was shouting at whoever brought me food... and breaking out a few times to beat up the wardens."

Ignoring all the talk about Nina, Evelyn turned her attention to Rose. "Now what on earth do you mean by that? I've barely even discussed anything about death in our time here so far. It feels as though you're discriminating me here because of my talent! That's hardly fair now, is it?" She shook her head disapprovingly.

Adam must have had a different sense of time to all the Ultimates, because “soon” dragged on into “eventually”. However, eventually the train started slowing to a halt, and Adam announced, “Now arriving at the Hotel Rest Stop. The train must recharge before it can make the final part of the journey to the main facility, so please alight here and enjoy the facilities Alabaster Corporation have provided for you all. We will be staying overnight.”

The Ultimates soon exited the train and headed for the hotel situated right at the station. The whole area seemed to be owned and managed by Alabaster Corporation, dedicated to this purpose. “Now this is more my style!” Rose declared happily, wandering ahead while some of the others found themselves left carrying her luggage. “There will be people here to serve us, right?”

“Er… About that,” an unfamiliar female voice spoke up. A girl emerged from the door to the hotel, grinning awkwardly and rubbing a hand over her head. “This place is empty! A barren wasteland! Great setting for a battle royale, but for a hotel? What’s the deal with that?”

She seemed to be addressing Adam, who sounded almost nervous as he replied, “Empty? No, that can’t be right… One moment, please,” before disappearing from the nearby monitor to presumably check out the hotel.

“Geez, some service, huh?” the girl said lightly, lowering her hand to her side and turning to face everyone else. “Hey there, it’s nice to meet you all! I’m joining Project Eden too, but I travelled ahead and got here early. I don’t like trains too much, see, but there’s no helping it for this last part if I want to reach the facility.” She laughed with a mixture of cheerfulness and embarrassment, before smiling at the gathered Ultimates.

“You’re an Ultimate too, then?” Marshall asked, staring the girl up and down. She seemed quite ordinary, wearing a simple school uniform and with no outstanding features to her appearance, save perhaps the slight ginger tint to her otherwise brown hair. “You don’t look it,” he continued bluntly, before cracking a grin.

“Oh, of course, I should introduce myself! Right, right, silly me. My name’s Evelyn Dø, and I’m the Ultimate Battle Royale Game Development Consultant!” she declared, making a peace sign. “If a battle royale’s your game, call my name! I’ve helped out with all kinds of battle royale games: you know that Midnite game that’s so popular lately? I was part of the dev team!”



Before anyone could comment, the nearby monitor suddenly lit up again and Adam started speaking. “My sincerest apologies, it appears there has been some kind of mix-up. You all will have the hotel to yourselves. I will do my utmost to fill in for the regular staff, and you are all free to do as you please, as you will not be bothering any other guests. Again, I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”

The students all stared at the monitor in disbelief. “Misfortune after misfortune…” Honda muttered darkly, before shaking his head to clear it. “You’ll be staying here as well, Lady Evelyn?” he then asked, addressing Dø.
“Of course I will!” Evelyn Scythe replied instead. “Even a coroner’s gotta sleep!”
“Oh, this is going to be fun,” Skylar said, rolling her eyes. “Hey, new girl. Got like a nickname or something? No-one likes opening a pack and pulling a duplicate!”
“Nickname?” Evelyn Dø replied, surprised for some reason. “Uhhhhhhh… call me Eve, I guess? Short and sweet, just like me!” she said, laughing brightly.

“Now come on, I’ll show you around!” Eve said, turning towards the entrance and beckoning. “I got a good look at the place when I was searching for signs of life.”













After exploring all of the facilities, the Ultimates found themselves by the bedrooms. They were once again shared rooms, but two to a room this time. Mr Anderson turned to the others and clapped his hands. “Well then! I supposed we’d best divide up into pairs. Quite frankly I don’t feel comfortable with anyone going off alone right now, not without any staff around. I suppose that means I’ll have to room with one of you, but worry not, I won’t snore! Any takers?”

[You can now choose a partner to room with! For the most part this amounts to an extra FTE this chapter, at no additional cost. One of the two roommates may use their FTE request now, or in a later chapter, to make the room FTE permanent, just as with normal FTEs.]

[In the interests of being clear, this is now chapter 1’s Daily Life. Please don’t expect a killing game announcement to come and interrupt it. All will be made clear in time.]

"Roommates, I see." Nina turned her back to the rest of the students.

"I suppose the only people willin' the be my roommate are Althea and Scythe. I can sleep in the theater or somewhere too."

"Oh my, what an interesting coincidence", Evelyn giggled at the girl who shared her name. "It's quite nice to meet you, 'Eve'! It's good to meet yet another one of us here! Here's to getting acquainted further!", she said amicably, shaking her hand.

Turning to the rooms, she tilted her head in thought. "Well, of course, my first choice for a roommate is my good friend Althie!" She beamed at the doctor. "She can accept if she wants to, though I don't mind if she declines! We all need to be friends with everyone here! In which case, my other choices for a roommate- in no particular order- are Nicos and Nina! Assuming there's no gender restrictions here, of course. Either way, any of these are suitable enough for me!" She nodded, pleased with all those she had named.

"And please, Evelyn is fine", she addressed Nina.

"Oh. Two Evelyns. We love that." Rose sighs. "Let's just hope this one isn't as weird as the first..."

"Anyways, new roommates! Definitely going to make sure to choose wisely..." The Ultimate Perfumer points her finger at the other students and scans over each of them individually. "Hmm, 'kay...Not you, not you, not you, Ummm...maybe you? Or maybe not, actually...definitely not you..." Rose ponders briefly before speaking up once more. "Okay, I've made my decision!" The perfumer pauses dramatically, as if she were waiting for a drum roll. "I want Nana."

"Your name's Evelyn too, right? Omigosh, that's so cool!" Eve squealed, returning the handshake with gusto. "Let's get on well!"

"As for me, well... I grew up in an orphanage with communal bedrooms, so I'm fine with anyone really," Eve continued, giggling. "Best way to fit in there was to stay low-impact at night, so you won't need to worry about me getting in your way! You're all probably best of friends by now, with all the time you spent on that train together, so you all pick first."

"Of course, there's no other person I'd rather choose than Evelyn!. Er, that is to say, Evy. I mean, the Evelyn that I already know." she rambled.

"Fantastic!" Evelyn replies, clearly enthused by both Althea choosing her and "Eve's" general friendliness. "You were raised in an orphanage, hmm?" She addressed the latter. "That sounds quite interesting! Being raised with other children and such, I mean. Surrounded by others like you must have been fun! I never had anyone like that when I was young."

Nina nods in Scythe and Althea's direction.

"Figures, that's how it always goes, always the last one picked, the sloppy seconds. I could sleep on the train, even if Adam and Eve say otherwise."

"Oh! Please, don't misunderstand me Nina. I mean, me and Evy pairing up is only natural, you see." she stopped herself, desperately trying to verbally backtrack. "I don't mean to say I would have never chosen you! Its just..." she kept rambling.

"Oh, yes, absolutely", Evelyn agreed. "Had these rooms been for three people, you would absolutely have been our third choice, Nina! It's not as though we deplore you! Please excuse us for not being able to accommodate you", she murmured apologetically.

"No... no, I get it, I'm the third wheel, the second choice. Not the Adam, or the Eve, not even the Cain or Abel, I'm... Seth... really?"

"Oh, it was a ton of fun! I used to spend my time imagining what it would be like if we were all forced into a battle royale right in the orphanage, winner gets the right to adoption... but I guess the other kids thought I was a bit weird, they usually left me alone with my thoughts like that," Eve replied, shrugging a little sadly. "That's why I'm so happy to be here, to have met you all! Project Eden's all about forging talents, but I'm gonna use it to forge some friendships!"

"And Nina, I do say otherwise!" Eve exclaimed, stomping a foot huffily. "I won't let you sleep in the train, we've got great, comfy rooms right here! Besides, being alone on a train at night... bleh. Who'd want that?"

Nina wondered something.

"Eve... where are you sleeping?"

"In one of these rooms, where else?" Eve replied, a quizzical expression on her face.

"So you're bunking with one of us... ok." Nina sighed.

"I was thinking if you had your own private place or something like that."

"Why would I?" Eve asked, even more confused now. "Guys, am I being hazed? I'm new to all this, I'm not really sure how to respond..."

Nina's eyes flashed to Eve for a second.

"Just drop it."

"Guuuuuuuuys, Nina's bullying meeeeeeee!" Eve whined, tears forming in the corners of her eyes.

"I do not wish to make the situation more complicated than it needs to be." Kyoya sighed. "I do not wish to room with Marshall, and I'd rather not infringe on a lady's space. But if I must state a preference then I choose Eli."

"That so?" Eli said, somewhat surprised. "Well, I'm fine with Kyoya. But I'd also be willing to room with either of my previous roommates, if that doesn't work out for some reason."

"Ehh?" Nana started from her mild daze. She shuffled her feet bashfully. "Um, I'm fine with that... but I figured I'd be staying with Sis... Oh, but we're just staying for tonight, right? If you want me for a night, I guess that's alright..."

She turned to her twin wearing an awkward smile. "I-is that okay with you, Hoshi?"


"Um, Miss Nina?" Nana stepped up and clumsily tried to resolve the situation. "You should really be careful about what you say. Words can hurt, you know."

"Okay, it's decided then!" Rose says to Nana. "It would have been really annoying if you had said no. I'm sure your sister would be okay with it."

The perfumer then addresses the new girl. "So, Eve. Can you tell us more about this talent of yours? What exactly is a 'battle royale'? Seems kind of bizarre."

Siri jumped up, cheering, "Roomies! Oh-" Overhearing the exchange with Nina, she turned to face her, "Hey Nina if you need someone to room with we can room together! If you don't mind rooming with someone you haven't talked to much yet. I'm very easy with conversation...!" She fiddled with her fingers, laughing awkwardly.

"Fine. I'm sorry Eve."

Nina went into a corner, crossed her arms, and leaned against the wall.

"I'll take whoever's left over."



Nina looked up.

"You'll do then."

Siri shot a fist in the air, "Heck yeah, great! Nice to meet you friend, please tell me if you ever need anything! I'll be very helpful to you, I'm sure. Oh since we'll be rooming, actually, is there anything I'll need to know?" She spun around and smiled to her new roommate.
