Anyone know a good program for making animated sprites?

I'm trying to make an avatar but I don't know any animation programs. Any suggestions to some good ones?

Thanks. I tried to make the GIF but I'm a little confused. I have each image but I can't figure out how to put them together. When I paste the images the have all these specks all over them and then a blank white spot on the right.

GIMP Portable

So you can do animations EVERYWHERE YOU GO TO.... as long as you bring it in your thumbdrive. For these animations, I used GIMP Portable.
