From what I understand it's a reboot for the 360/PS3. I can already tell this is going to be as loved and regarded as canon as DMC2.

Just why, why are they calling it "DMC - Devil May Cry" anyway? They could have created a new series with such game and stopped "raping" the old DMC series.

2. They're calling it DmC because it's a lot easier to sell games in an established franchise than to create a new IP.

and exactly that is my problem. Instead of trying to beat some logic into that whole mess, called DMC story, they rather create a new game with the same old title.
This is exactly like when you're watching a movie and suddenly that movie stops and another one starts. The "new" one may be even great but the thing is, that I'm still interested in what happened in that previous movie.
They never finished telling the old DMC story but instead, started a new one.

I never said it looks horrible, the graphics actually look pretty decent. However, to me it feels like I've just been kicked in the ass by Ninja Theory and Capcom.

That's why there's a contradiction in this case. Capcom has over a year kept saying that DMC5 wasn't yet worked on and therefore wished fans to submit their ideas for the next game (fan-tailoring as they say it). And I dare to say NOBODY wanted the series rebooted. So Capcom ate its words and offered a deal to Ninja Theory? What?

I know there's a few other employees who've said it as well...
if you look at the trailer he has abit of his silver hair...hes just back at the the time before he became the Dante we've come to know...his design still is pretty bad though in my own opinion :P

I don't get why he's supposed to have black hair at all. Sparda's hair was white/silver-ish, Eva's hair was blond, so why's his hair black?........or is a demon's natural hair color black? Then why was his hair to be seen white in one of his childhood pictures in the anime? or did he just dye his hair black? but his hair wasn't black in the novels either.....
...at this point, I really don't want to see how Vergil's supposed to look like, if there's gonna be a Vergil in that new game at all.
In all honesty, I don't think this game will have any connections with the old DMC story. Even if the new game fails to sell well, there's no guarantee that we'll have the old DMC back. I actually think, that when something like that will occur, Capcom will decide to stop the whole series rather than making a new game based on the old story.

well for the hair question the anime has no value canon wise to the dmc game...other than that though I'm unsure myself...but seeing the small bit of silver hair on dante's head during the trailer makes me think it might have changed rather than was dyed...but hey at this point it is way to early on to know exactly what the heck is going on with his hair let alone anything really...I just know dantes current concept isn't something I particularly like.
but yes if this doesnt sell well it might put the nails to the coffin for devil may cry.

That doesn't matter. So what if the stories are different? They're both franchises from Capcom. They're both franchises that have taken on a new direction (several new directions, in Mega Man's case). They're both franchises that aren't dead. Therefore, they're both franchises that have the potential to continue where they left off.
There is not a single reason that Capcom cannot continue where they left off (i.e. DMC4) after this new DmC game comes out.
P.S. It was only 14 years between 8 and 9.

That statement still leaks. DMC is a young franchise compared to MM and in MM's case the franchise's popularity had gone down at the time they released MM8. Even if I don't prefer it it was a good idea to reboot the franchise as MMX (mainly because the old MM-formula "Wily makes robots and Megaman stops him" had gone old already at the time of MMVI), which then spawned its own games etc.
But in DMC there is/was some many things unfinished, mainly plotholes 'n stuff, and don't forget about the fan-tailoring -thing. And besides they already have one prequel, just how dark past must Dante have?

But the problem is, they're saying they decided to reboot in the first place because DMC4 did not sell as well as they wanted to. If DmC sells well, they'll continue doing that. If DmC does poorly, they have no incentive to do DMC5, because if it wasn't popular enough to do before, how can it possibly become MORE popular after a failed game?
Looking at it realistically, we're not going to see another DMC game with traditional Dante. And that is very sad :(

You guys, you'll never guess what Capcom is doing! So they had this great series, right? About a character who all the fans loved for his witty, dry sense of humour. He had several well-loved games with a significant fan-base. And guess what!? Now he's being replaced! Replaced by this younger, skinnier, all-round seemingly inferior version of what is essentially the same character! He has some pretty dumb physical characteristics, too. A whole lot of the fans are thinking that this is a bad direction to take! Ah, but, I can't remember what the series is called... Oh! That's right! Devil May Cry!

The Ace Attorney series isn't comparable to the DMC series in that kind of situation. Phoenix's trilogy was finished, his story was over. You got your ending but Devil May Cry fans didn't. All we got is a book without the final chapter and a kick in the ass by the author.
Apollo Justice wasn't a reboot either; it was a new start for another story of another defense attorney. Oh and there was plenty of Phoenix in a game which was supposed to be about the new protagonist but that's offtopic..... That said, AJ actually seems more comparable to DMC 4 than to the new DmC.
I'm not even angry anymore. The new Dante doesn't look super awesome but oh well, the game still could be somewhat good. I am just sad, sad about the fact something ends without an ending.

Two, if DMC is a dead horse, why make a new game in that series? Maybe because *gasp* there are fans and interested people?!
Never seen anyone try to make a new horse off a dead one.
Third, I doubt it'll be that different from the original series if you really get down to it. So far we've seen a new person (I refuse to call that anorexic Dante!), not a whole new game that revolutionizes everything. If they really wanted a fresh, new start, they would've picked another name and given up on the demon-hunter-thing.

I'm pretty sure that even 9 years ago, Dante would have been laughed out of any bar on the planet. He wears a giant red tench coat, damnit. Who cares? DMC was never about being "current" it's about crazy anime aesthetics and killing the crap out of demons. Oh, and good job insulting the entre fanbase with bold statements about Dante not being "cool." And declaring yourself the definition of cool at the same time, I get it.
Not to mention after playing the Enslaved demo, I'm not convinced that Ninja Theory knows anything about being "new." Uncharted much? Considering that Heavenly Sword was just boobie-GOW I shouldn't have expected more. Creating an inferior version of DMC should be right up their alley I guess.

Theoretically, I should be happy about that since I'm big fan of him. Thing is: I am not happy.
I'm slightly worried about the fact that well, Ninja Theory fucks up Vergil. That they either turn him into someone who's exactly the opposite of the original version (just thinking about a happy and totally brotherly Vergil kinda scares me) or some super evil villain who happens to be like the zillion of other villains from other games.
On another note:
...is there actually any info about the reboot being based on the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri as well? I mean, all we heard until now is "Dante's origins bla bla bla, new design bla bla bla, not cool bla bla bla" but what about the Divine Comedy?
