We dont know much other than he's wearing a Helmet, who knows, there might be more than 2 people and the Killer would probably not wear a Helmet and look different.
AAI, despite showing the First Killer, had some pretty awesome and unexpected plot twists

Expected Apollo as main, though... but with the wording "1 year after AA4" and "returns to be a lawyer" I don't think they'd completely forget about those events... Please give the guy a cameo and solve the loose plot-twists!
Nick's new design is cool, and I like the new girl too. Also Payne's brother reminds me of movie!Redd White, haha.
Also good to hear it's for 3DS, though I expected that. (also people are complaining about that? really, 3DS has been out for a year and a half and the regular DS is already "dead" new game-wise so you shouldn't expect new games for that one anymore...)

I agree. Its obvious Takumi is set on other things, and I think having him in charge would negatively affect the series. And having the creator of a series always be im charge isnt always a good thing (Phantom Menace, anyone?) Eshiro is the showrunner now, and I look at that as a positive thing right now.

I mean, where is everyone? Trucy is still Nick's daughter and would be 16 at the time this is set, so she's unlikely to have flown the nest. So Nick has one high-school girl following him around solving cases with him and one who he keeps locked at home except for when its time for a magic show? There is a small chance they could be one and the same but I doubt it as that girl looks too different. But there'd better be a good explanation coz Trucy has proven to work just as well as a lawyer's assistant. Apollo? Well presumably he's still a lawyer and would be in touch with Phoenix. I mean, Nick really owes it to him to keep friendly with him. Even if the grand plot behind AJ:AA was Nick's scheme, he couldn't have done it without Polly! Kristoph and Ema should still be active and I'll be expecting an appearance from them. Why Payne's younger brother and not Payne himself? If there's one thing we've learned in the twelve (in-game) years we've known him, it's that he never knows when to give up and always comes back smugger than ever. Why does that change now? I find it hard to believe he'd hear about Nick returning to law and be able to resist facing him again. Maya? A lot of people are assuming she's too busy as the master now, but the epilogue to T&T hinted that although it's hard work for her balancing it with being Nick's assistant, she still manages. Pearl hasn't gone anywhere either, although that girl could be her...
I know, I know, it's the very first look at the game and for all I know all these people may appear. It may be that they're withholding announcements about these characters so they have a healthy supply of hype-ammo. But without Takumi playing a big part in the game, it's hard to be certain that everyone present is really gonna treat the franchise with the respect it deserves. If they're simply looking to make the game with the line-up of characters they want (and they think will make the fans most happy) then who's to say they're not above simply putting everyone else on a big bus to theyrenotaroundmuchthesedays-ville and after a one-sentence explanation, never mentioning them again.
I may be completely wrong. In fact I HOPE I am. But only time will tell.

Couldn't have phrased it any better. I have to admit, the moment I read the news, I was like a little boy about to unwrap his christmas presents (Nintendo Sixty-Foooooooooooooooooooouuuuuuuuurrrrrrr!!!!). Except this time, it was 'Gyakuten Saiban Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive!!!'. Then, my brain got stuck on 'F*ck yeah!!!' mode, and still isn't reverting back to that state every few minutes.
I'm really glad we're getting another game, and on 3DS to boot. The scans got me really excited, the game looks great (I mean, that little teeny teensy snippet of the game looks great).
About Apollo, I can't say I'm disappointed (still too excited about the news), but I would've been happy either way : with or without him. I just hope they won't totally ditch him, and that he'll still appear one way or another... bit like Phoenix never really disappeared in GS4 (understatement of the day).
But I'm like Wooster on that one, I wasn't that surprised. I mean, since 2007 we've barely seen Apollo at all on promotional stuff and goodies.... while Phoenix got 2 musicals, a cameo in AAI, 1 movie, 1 HD port of his games on smartphones, 1 crappy port of his games on WiiWare, and even a crossover with Prof. Layton. I think half the reason we got two spin-offs with Edgeworth was : to make games with a character '''everybody''' liked, so as to make people 'forget' about poor Apollo.
Ok, let's enjoy the announcement, let's wait for more screens and a first trailer at TGS and... begin worrying whether the game will get localised. But let's keep that for much later, let's rejoice for the moment !

I'm quite a bit iffy on the 3D characters thing, I wasn't too impressed by the models from PLvsAA, I just hope they're just as vibrant as their sprite counterparts. I also can't help but to think about going back to the old way of investigating in contrast of AAI's. It feels like it's taking a step back, that's assuming IF they plan on going back to the GS style, but heck there's a lot of stuff we don't know about this game yet.

But he's also had his down sides, I hear there's a MAJOR
moment in terms of character rationalization that made Croik want to throw her DS at the wall. But it's not like Takumi wasn't guilty of the same thing in GS3 and that nonsense which was GS2-3. In other words, the game is in as good hands as it has ever been. And Takumi off the GS train means he'll have time soon for Ghost Trick 2 or maybe some other new IP.

I am moderately worried about losing characters, but old favorites and newcomers from the previous game. I think the writers know of our worries. I think they will deal with our worries decently.
What I am missing here is the main prosecutor. It's obviously not Payne-bro. They have lots of interesting choices to pick from, but you just can't make a new game without having a new main prosecutor.
And my personal notes: looks like they stole the 3d engine from the crossover game. Also: yet another custom file format. Capcom is always writing a marginally different custom archive file format in each game. I counted seven variants last night. That I know of that is.
Finally, there is one thing that is missing from the screenshots. The investigation phase. What do they have in store for us?

Ace Attorney Investigations was probably my least favorite game and it was indeed because of the storywriting but I was still willing to give Gyakuten Kenji 2 a swing anyway regardless of how I felt about its predecessor because it was a new game. I didn't have any notion to judge that game by the people who were making it.
If Shu Takumi isn't going to helm this project then so be it.

I can't believe Capcom are playing the "Apollo Justice isn't as liked as Phoenix so let's erase him from existence" card. The fact that Apollo isn't the main character means that he won't be in the game. Capcom are obviously trying to force us to forget about him. Phoenix's story ended in Trials and Tribulations and marked the beginning of Apollo's trilogy, but since Phoenix has the starring role in AA5, it means that we will never ever see Apollo again. Unless it's his dead corpse.

I do feel bad for Apollo.... And Klavier, and everyone else who lost the spotlight (who never really had it anyway, since Phoenix stole AA4 as well). I do miss his hobo look though, he was kind of sexy as a jaded bum. Slightly older Trucy might be fun. I feel like questions from AA4 weren't fully answered, though...
Oh, and I DO HOPE that AAI series eventually ties in with the new AA5 game. It would fit so neatly together.

As for Phoenix being the star, consider the movie in Japan and the crossover game. Both intoduce the series to new fans, and both have Phoenix's mug on them. If Capcom wants to cash in then they needed Phoenix to star. If they truly wanted the game to be about Apollo, then he should've stared in Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney. He didn't so he's not a contender. Much to my personal regret.

It could just be beta models at this point. The game still has a long way off to launch, especially to give PLvsAA some time in the spotlight. 3D models take longer to create than 2D sprites, so between now and release they have plenty of time to spruce things up.

I don't QUITE buy this analysis because I don't think Apollo is necessarily gone but I would not be surprised if his role is minor and his entire supporting cast is brushed under the rug (which would be AWFUL since Trucy is Phoenix's adopted daughter but they could do it if they wanted to redact Ace Attorney 4 that badly).
Very disappointing move but one that doesn't seem far-fetched, at least at the moment. We'll see where this goes.

I apologise for acting fanboyish (ironic since I criticised the Phoenix fanboys), I was just really upset. I had so much fun speculating what would happen to Apollo, his backstory, and Trucy's. And if they ever

Well think about it, when you hear Ace Attorney, what do you think of? Phoenix. It would have been foolish of Capcom if they based a film on the AJ game since, well, Apollo isn't given the spotlight. The game revolves around Phoenix. Besides, it would have been weird if they started from the fourth game since part of the joy of AJ was seeing the old characters grow up. Newcomers won't get that feeling since they don't know any of the characters. The same can be said for PL vs AA.

There's her earring, and if you look carefully on her glove is a moon motif. And her hair's kind shaped like a moon shape, much like Gavins hair is shaped like a G.
Wouldn't be surprised if her name was Tsukiko or something

Shame if they reveal the murderer in the tutorial case but it doesnt really matter - while 1-1 was a p*ss easy case it was the first ever, 2-1 had a clever conceit, 3-1 was linked to the rest of the game and 4-1 was very clever.
The prosecutor for the first case looks JUST like Payne xD
As for Nick's new assistant, she looks a bit like Lynne from Ghost Trick to me for some reason - maybe its the yellow clothing and her hair.

That could make sense. Maybe you could even play as both of them when one investigates a part of the case and the other investigates a second part(a bit like GS3-5, maybe?).
