I've been wondering about the "chronological" placement of the game. I'm sure they're not trying to tie the game into both series chronology (unless they're going to do some weird twilight zone, forget-what-happened-at-the-end narrative), but are the Nick and Maya in this game from a certain time on the AA timeline (Say, the characters are in their post-T&T state) or are they just the representation of the characters and their most notable traits (as in its Nick and Maya how fans "remember" them and is not going to take place at a certain, specific part of their lives in the series. I know no one knows this yet, this is just one of the questions I'm wondering about.
I ask because the airplane shots suggest Nick and Maya start in the "present time"/what seems to be the "real world" before going to the city.
By the way, anyone else think Phoenix's face in that image of him looking up looks more like Apollo than Phoenix? Is the AJ artist the one doing the character art?
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

I think the main reason he looks a little Pollyish is because of that mask pulled down in front of his chin. It makes his face look rounder than it is, a bit more like Polly (who totally has a baby face).

Not too much surprises in the image, but it's nice that Japan will get it soon. I hope they don't take more than a year for the western release. I don't need a Dutch dub.

EDIT: After looking at the second scan again, I noticed there was a non-dialogue box of just investigating PL-style, and on the bottom-left of the touch screen is the Professor's trunk. If that is so, I guess there are going to be Professor trunk minigames!

This brings up the question: Who will voice them here?
Ben Judd left Capcom a while ago, so they might not be able to use him (although I'm not sure he would work for actual dialogue anyway. I was never crazy about Phoenix's voice. On another note, that means if Phoenix has a new saying they may need to find a new actor). It would be nice if they could get a really good, recognizable actor to do it (assuming it fit with the character) but the localized voices probably won't have the budget of the actual ones.
I have a bunch of actors that would work, but keeping in mind how Ben Judd's voice sounded and the fact they can't get anyone TOO famous, my pick would be the guy who played Jack on LOST. He sounds a lot like Phoenix, and Jack is probably the only other character that is seen shouting with his mouth open as much as Phoenix.
I just hope they get someone good. You know as soon as you hear Phoenix talk in PLvsAA that's going to be how he sounds whenever you play an AA game.

There is also Nick's Marvel VS Capcom voice. Also, shame that Judd left Capcom... If Nick suddenly gets a new "OBJECTION!" in GS5 because of this, it'd kinda diminish the awesomeness of his return just the slightest bit. But just a bit. I'm used to him having 4 different voices anyway (English, German, Japanese, Marvel VS Capcom), so I guess I can adjust.

I hated the Marvel Vs. Capcom voice. I don't know why, it just wasn't delivered right. I doubt they would re-record his voice for GS5, rather they would just have new person record the new phrase. (if I'm not mistaken, Edgeworth's "Objection" is a different voice actor than all the other ones. It's much higher pitched and has more of the accent coming in. They probably recorded Objection for GS1 and weren't able to get the same guy back for GS3 & AAI. So that's what will probably happen here)
I'm just worried about the voices in PLvsAA because they will be what fans "hear" in their head when they play GS1 to 5. I doubt GS5 will get any full voiced scenes, but PLvsAA will have tons.

I haven't really looked at the scans in full detail, but seeing the "Adventure Part" and "Court Part" up there, I wonder how much of a distinct separation there is between the Phoenix and Layton gameplay segments. Like, do you only play as Phoenix in court, and investigate as Layton? Or is there some AA-esque evidence gathering as Phoenix as well? When/how does switching between the two take place?

I've heard layton takes place roughly in the 1960's.
Yes, it's interesting because we're getting GS5, the first main game in years (and the thing we've been wanting for years for) and it's not being done by Takumi, and then we have Layton vs Takumi, which probably isn't in the canon at all, being actually done by Takumi. This is alright with me, though. I recently played Ghost Trick and it made me realize that Takumi has a lot of ideas that wouldn't work in the AA series and he's been limited with the subsequent games. (that's probably why he keeps making possible finale games.) PLvsAA probably gives him more leeway to have creative ideas due to the medieval setting and non-binding plot. (He doesn't have to worry about screwing over future installments or leaving anything a certain way). In video games, as well as tv and movies, there are people who are amazing at coming up with new ideas but aren't good at doing sequels, and then there are people who maybe aren't as good at the new ideas but are awesome at creating new installments in existing franchises. I am actually happy that Takumi isn't doing GS5, because the AAI team has shown that they are great at continuing AA and frankly I think Takumi wouldn't make as interesting a game as they will.
I think it probably means either breaking from the traditional GS forumla or breaking from the plot of GS5. (A casual viewer might get the two confused since they're being made at the same time and on the same system.)

Wait, now I thought about it, I bet they were describing the fact that Takumi is working on this, not GS5. And he is not working on continuing his 'GS5' plot because of working on this plot. Hence the 'break' as it was translated. 'Split of staffers' perhaps.

Thank you for being so helpful! I did not expect Maki to be Luke's voice actor all along. This is rather amusing because I'd always been hearing the English VA.
