Knowing my luck, they'll probably call Daian something like "Richard Dickins".

Naruto is a very Japanese anime, giving the characters English names would conflict with the setting and make it awful. You know, more than usual.

Ace Attorney, while having lots of Japanese popculture references and wordplay, isn't that Japanese. That is to say, the overall setting and atmosphere portrayed is hardly something that could be considered unique to Japan (with a few exceptions, like the Feys and Kitakis) and could be translated to another culture with minimal problems. I mean, just look at the English versions- they're set in California now, we have English puns, American popculture references, and there are few occurences of things that scream JAPAN. Overall, they've become rather 'American'.

I hope you see what I'm getting at, because it was hard to type :/

Heh, well I'm not sure that's true, either! Though the origins behind Naruto's silly names can't really be translated either.

I'm glad that they localized the majority of Phoenix Wright, but I do hope the Kitakis are still Japanese. It'll just be so ridiculous to have Koume wearing a kimono for no reason. :sadshoe:

Now you're just being silly.

Why must it be Americanised? Uh, because that's where they're releasing it? As for it not being "britianised", that's Capcom of Europe's fault, not Capcom of America.

Well, I must say I got stuck in 1-1 because of the time difference. I'm in the same time zone as France, so travelling there wouldn't have made any difference for Cindy if the game had been localized. *sigh*

I'm only about an hour behind France or something. That was the bit I got stuck on, too.

I'm in Britain; if they hadn't drilled the idea it was set in LA into my head right at the start, I would have had the same problem. Still, at least that means I can keep England as the place he lived in after he left in 1-5. X3

Daian should be Eric Shin.

Seriously, though, I'm fine with the names; might as well get used to them, since I'll be seeing them a lot. Wocky's the only name so far I'm taking a while to get used to, actually (I'm afraid to look at the profiles, so I'm not sure what the significance of "Takita" is, but it sounds cute and reminds me of tacos... maybe that's just me, since I think :karate: is cute and I love tacos), but oh well... we'll find out what it is they're going for there. :)

*cannot believe I actually came in here and read through this thread, but it was very entertaining*

@CW: Lol, Eric Shin. Like than Penizheir and Jack Ov. The Penis Joke just never dies for him, does it?

It doesn't have anything to do with spoilers. Don't worry.

Kita means North. The name is the word 'Kita' repeated 3 times, Takita Kitaki.

NO YOU GOT IT WRONG. First, you must know how does the pronunciation go for his name. Daian = 'dye' + 'un' (as in the words undo, untie, unmask). Second, the meaning of Daian in its Japanese term. Last but not least, the character's storyline. That's HOW we actually should determine its English translation.

As for the above posts, it's clear that the translations were made solely on his physical features (THAT HAIR!!)
Hope you get that, pal. :haha:

Trucy is a Very Normal Name, there are 2 girls at my school with that name.
And I bet Wocky's Full English name will be Wakawa kawaka! :D
So we still get the KITA KITA KITA Joke just in English it will be WAKA WAKA WAKA!

EDIT: I would laugh if they named Dian, Phil Lichair.
XD, Get it, I'm so bad at Puns.
Oddly enough it sounds French =/
Kay had two daddies. Trucy had THREE daddies. Clearly Trucy is the winner.

XD I thought of that right after I typed it out.

but this is CAPCOM not NAMCO so the chances of Pac-man references is slim :(

Maybe, but I mean jokes by the fans, not necessarily in the game. I know if they do name him that, though, I won't be able to play Pac Man the same way again (not that I even play it much at all anyway). XD
