Hi everyone, this is the thread for my Ace Attorney Online/PWlib fangame, Miles Edgeworth: Ace Attorney.

Image

Awesome boxart thanks to Defencelawer!

It's mainly about Edgeworth's first year as a prosecutor. There are old characters, like Winston Payne, Diego Armando, Kristoph Gavin and, of course, Dick Gumshoe, and new characters like Rookie Detective Joss Correal, Senior Detective Alex Cetera. This game has a unique Prosecutor system in place.

Cases

Case 1: Turnabout Rookie- While abroad researching the true meaning of a Prosecutor, Miles Edgeworth is reliving his first court cases. His second case is 2 months after 3-4 in which Edgeworth returns to the courtroom and prosecutes a case against Richard Burns, a former circus performer, who's accused of murdering his agent.

Progress: 100%

AAO Editions:

Trial Former: http://aceattorney.sparklin.org/jeu.php?id_proces=7984

Trial Medium: http://aceattorney.sparklin.org/jeu.php?id_proces=9151

Trial Latter: http://aceattorney.sparklin.org/jeu.php?id_proces=9353

Case 2: Vendetta for the Turnabout- 2 months after his first win, Edgeworth sees off Detective Gumshoe who's being transfered to another predinct. Afterwards, he is greeted by a scruffy (but not as scruffy) rookie detective, Joss Correal. In the first case they investigate together, the murder of Bruto Cadverini's wife, they meet the Defense Attorney of the case, Diego Armando. But things take an unexpected turn...

AAO Editions:

Investigation Day 1 Part 1: http://aceattorney.sparklin.org/jeu.php?id_proces=10383

Progress: 15%

Case 3: Don't Upset the Turnabout- A murder of the lead singer of the pop group "Loudettes" results in a high-profile court case, with the lead drummer accused of the murder. However, Edgeworth discovers that the lead drummer wasn't the only one who had something to do with the murder.

Progress: 0%

Case 4: Darkness of the Turnabout- Manfred Von Karma tells Joss and his daughter Franziska about the fateful day when Edgeworth's father got him a penalty. This has two separate trials combined into one case, and both Manfred von Karma and Winston Payne are playable here.

Progress: 0%

Case 5: Phantom of the Turnabout- When one of Edgeworth's friends are shot dead, by a sniper aimed for Edgeworth, the Prosecutor himself decides to find the person responsible and bring it to justice, with the aid of Franziska von Karma. And when they find the person responsible, they also find something they didn't even consider finding...

Progress: 0%

Characters-

There are some brand new characters in ME:AA along with some old favourites. Some new characters are in need of sprites.

Spoiler:
Miles Edgeworth
Image
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Job: Prosecutor
Personality: At the beginning of his career, Edgeworth was widely considered a genius Prosecutor. Under the guidence of his mentor and adoptive father, Manfred von Karma, he has all his trials planned perfectly. Edgeworth usally comes across as a snob, and patronises the Defense Attorneys he faces, but has been known to show moments of kindness.

Kristoph Gavin
Image
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Job: Defense Attorney
Personality: Kristoph is one cool customer. Always calm, collected, and elegant. Though he has a subtle sense of humor, he's also intimidating in court, to even Apollo himself. A perfectionist above all else. He also has a darker side within him that he is yet to release...

Joss Correal

Age: 28
Gender: Male
Job: Rookie Detective
Personality: The Detective in this game from the second case onwards (Except Case 4), Joss is a ever-so-slightly annoying guy. He's quite new to his position, and is a little unreliable, but always means well. Edgeworth considers him to be an annoyance at first, but the two eventually become good friends.

Winston Payne
Image
Age: 45
Gender: Male
Job: Prosecutor
Personality: Winston Payne is an arrogant veteran Prosecutor, often known as the Rookie Killer, he is almost always the prosecutor in a case involving a rookie Defense Attorney, hence the name. Like Edgeworth, he patronises the Defense Attorneys he faces. Unlike Edgeworth, he glorifies himself in each trial, often annoying the Attorney.

Manfred von Karma
Image
Age: 62
Gender: Male
Job: Prosecutor
Personality: Regarded as a God of Prosecution, it wouldn't be unfair to call von Karma the best Prosecutor in the world. He uses aggresive bullying tactics, to get every defendant he prosecuted Guilty, only driven by his own selfish desire to win. Von Karma is also obessed with perfection. Everything in his life must be perfect. His only desire is to be perfect...

Alex Cetera
Image
Age: 39
Gender: Male
Job: Senior Detective
Personality: A senior Detective in the predinct. Alex is a friendly, albeit very frantic Detective, and is the Chief's second in command and Joss's boss. He always wears the same suit and requests that his underlings call him "Doctor" despite the copyright issues. He is on good working terms with both Edgeworth and Manfred.

Franziska von Karma

Age: 13
Gender: Female
Job: Rookie Prosecutor
Personality: Franziska is a very brash and aggressive girl. Aggressive to the point of actual violence. She's known Edgeworth for almost all of her life and they share a strong sibling bond. Franziska was trained by her father to become a ruthless Prosecutor, and as a result, she became the youngest (but unbeatable) Prosecutor in Germany.

Please play and tell me what you all think! All feedback is greatly appreciated. :redd:

Wow, you've done a brilliant job. It was very interesting. I liked how you simulated an Ace Attorney game easily and how you used AAO to be in the position of a Prosecutor. A good job. I don't think I've seen any other game like this before (one that actually has a demo).

I think the only thing to be improved is watching your grammar (I saw some mistakes throughout the trial).

I look forward to your next update.

With thanks to Defencelawer for the fantastic boxart, and I'm pleased to welcome him as co-spriter.Hopefully, with a more appealing boxart like this, it'll convince more people to play this game and comment. If Ptapcc's comment is anything to go by (Which I thank him for, immensely) then this better than some games out there. I won't name any names, but there are some that have recived more replies than this in mere days, while I've replied to this topic more times than anyone else! Man, it's lonesome in here... pleaaaaaaase! Don't ignore meeeeeeeee! Rant over.

You've done a good job so far on the cases so I don't know why people are avoiding it but my main guess if I had to guess would be the name. Miles Edgeworth Ace Attorney sounds like it'd contain spoilers for Gyakuten Kenji and this might turn people away. If you wanted to advertise the game, create a banner that links to this page then post in other threads so people can see a game, click it, then play it and comment.

Good Luck!

Late Update-

Acid Snake (Flaw-checker and Co-Writer) has joined the Project.

The first case is now nearing completion. The soundtrack is being changed to contain more Ace Attorney 1 tracks, for a more AA feel.

Of course, does anyone else even like the first two parts? Man... I better hurry up with that banner.

ME:AA is moving to PWlib!

After some thought and inspiration from Ptapcc, I've decided to move Miles Edgeworth: Ace Attorney to PWlib. I decided due to the fact that I'd like my game to be as realistic as possible to the original AA games. The PWlib version will be made with assistance from Ptapcc. (Since he knows more about this than me! XD)

Of course, I'll still make the AAO versions, but only for the AAO forums.

Hey ShadowEdgey Supersonic here, you may want to update the characters to acknowledge my sprite of Alex Cetera. I still haven't got to sad though, too much school work. I can send you what I have now.

As luck would have it, progress with the PWlib version has been put in stasis, since we can't put custom sprites in it.

Therefore, we are moving the game to PyWright, for it's entirety, and might be moved to PWlib soon after, preferably on the 1.2 version.

I also hope to port the game onto LuaDS when it is released. :edgy:

For now, here's some screens for the PyWright version.

Image

Screenshots taken by Ptapcc. :phoenix:

Note: The lower screen button is going to change, don't worry.

Also, the AAO version of Case 1 has been made a featured trial, but for those who would rather play it on a major casemaker, as I've said a PyWright release is in development. :-)

Didn't DeMatador worked on a tutorial for it?

If you want custom sprites done, pm me, send the gifs and they will be done quickly.

Just don't give up on PWLib version so easily. I may be busy, but I can manage stuff needed for PWLib users (even redirect work to pwlib helpers).

PWLib may have its drawbacks, but the quality of the final game will pay off and still give refunds.

Ah, that was me who suggested the temporary move to Pywright KSA_Technology. I was stuck with the problem of custom sprites in PWlib and even with the help of DeMatador, the tutorial and you (You didn't reply to my message!), I couldn't do it. It was just too difficult.

Thanks for making me one step closer into giving up with PWLib.

It is just because of the same lore time after time. I always discover people's troubles when they (quickly) given up on PWLib and fallen to PyWright. They just don't ask, and I don't have that magical power to know the problems they are having.

DeMatador has a character coding station so he can make chars for people (that's at least what I did some time ago).

That's all I have to say.

Hey, if characters turned out to be to hard, I woun't mind doing them. Just send them to me via PM and I'll do them as fast as possible.

You can even recruit coders, if general programming is too hard for you. But I still suggest you keep trying.

Ptapcc, if you want, you can always add me on MSN, so I can help you in real time. Just don't give up so easily.

*Note: I'm not telling him to not do the PyWright version, I'm just telling him not to quit the PWLib one.

I apologize KSA_Tech but it was only a suggestion that I made. We didn't give up on PWlib, I didn't give up on PWlib. We looked for an easier method at this point in time until the method of spriting could be changed.

You wouldn't mind doing characters? That would be greatly appreciated but I thought you said you'd rather teach than just do the work for the developers of Pwlib based fan games.

I can do the programming of PWlib but I just fall apart when I do the sprite programming. The frames, animation and sequencing code is not something I understand, even with all the help KSA_Tech, Yourself and the tutorials have contributed.

I haven't given up. I'll always continue with PWlib as it is the engine that can make my fan game the best in every possible way.

DeMatador teaches how to animate, but he does chars too to help people out.

Now with AIGE's ability to generate sheets and the animation code, characters will be done a lot faster.

So no need to fall to PyWright just because of character creation.

We haven't changed and most likely, according to ShadowEdgeworth, we will possibly release several versions of ME: AA. The first being Ace Attorney Online, then PWlib, Pywright and LuaDS. Can we say this line of conversation is over now as this is not the most normal stuff to talk about on a fan game thread.

But why release a PyWright version?

I can understand a AAO and (somewhat) a LuAA.

It all depends on the three factors of,well, marketing.

1. Speed
2. Quality
3. Developed/Development.

Some want AAO because of how fast you can create games on it. The same can be said for Pywright. Quality, now LuaDS comes into play here along with PWlib and Pywright. And finally Developed. PWlib fits this last category as it takes on most of every AA feature.

As I know fans can be very impatient, Pywright and AAO can provide quick releases while PWlib will provide a perfected game with no faults.

Does this make any sense?

Ptapcc

P.S: I do not mean to insult Pywright or Saluk from my comments.

As KSA said, I don't mind doing characters, just that I believe it's better to teach someone how to work than do the work for them. But if they don't seem to understand after I try to teach them, I can do it for them.

I think what KSA meant is why PyWright version when it's the same platform than PWLib. You have AAO, online; PWLib, on PC; and LuAA, on DS. A PyWright version would be redundant.
Again, I'm not telling you not to do it. I'm just saying it would take longer for no reason.

I'll have to discuss that with ShadowEdgeworth then. We only decided to use Pywright when the sprite issue became a hassle and then, we were taking into consideration how fast it could be released etc.

Ptapcc

P.S: Due to a PM from Ceres who has kindly noted that we are using his DA Grossberg sprites, I have decided to post the credit to the sprite artists here instead of in the game itself. We'll still have the credit in game though.

Credit to...

Ceres: DA Grossberg Sprites
Sketchinmaster: Front Payne sprites.

I didn't select the sprites so if anyone has an issue about them being stolen, you'll have to re-direct it with ShadowEdgeworth. I only signed up to help after Case 1 was 75% released on AAO.

Hmm.. maybe... yeah, since the barrier with the custom sprites has now been overcome, I agree that a PyWright version is no longer nessesary. So therefore the rate of release per case would be something like waiting until both AAO and PWlib versions of each Case is finished before work begins on the next.

As the AAO case 1 is completed, it's just the PWlib version next.

I think I'll start the LuAA version when it comes out.

Many thanks to KSA and DeMatador for all of the help you gave us, and apologies to Saluk and those involved in the PyWright project.

Of course, ideally, I would like to have some comments about the quality of the game, and not just the casemakers... *shot*

Alright, I agree with that. As soon as the Grossberg and Payne sprites have been converted by DeMatador, progress will continue on the PWlib version. In the meanwhile SE, could you send that Trial Latter script while I finish scripting Trial Former and Medium?

Now is the time for Comments about the game itself. The end of the casemakers/engine discussion is officially over!

Unfortunately this seems to often be the most important thing to people. It's all about the games man!

No I don't take any offense, good luck with the project. I think it is awesome you are trying to put it to the widest audience possible, by starting with aao and then trying to put on other systems too.

I can't say I've had much time for gaming, or anything else lately, so I haven't gotten very far in this game. The beginning is very promising though! I like playing as a prosecutor :) Seeing all of the characters like Payne etc in this earlier state seems to work and be fairly believable.

I thought the whole concept of the gameplay was a great idea, and it works very well. (It's like a cross-examination of a cross-examination when I think about it.)

Good luck with your other cases!
