I'm glad you guys were able to work this out, but I do want to say a few things before we get back to squeeing about Edgeworth's fanon ancestry. Even googling something like colloquial terms doesn't always help people find the correct meaning to them. I've done this many times for Internet slang and other words I didn't understand and turned up nothing that seemed feasible. It would have been better just to have answered the question without accusing anyone of being ignorant. This is Court-Records and our favorite word (other than Objection) is Fuck. It's not going anywhere and most of us throw it around casually. Welcome to the Internet, cussing is rampant, if you don't like it, well, I don't know what to tell you.

Now back to the regularly scheduled squeeing.

It's definitely something about the tea and the cravat that make him seem English. It's not like the English wear those anymore, but they were associated with the style. Then again, so were Revolutionary War Era Americans. Bratworth's costume actually looks like a cross between the British Army's uniform and a pirate's outfit in my opinion.

I'm pretty certain the Franziska and Edgeworth spent some time in England. Did you notice how Franziska's OBJECTION! has a British accent, not a German one?

That probably has more to do with the Western localization not hiring professional voice actors to the the voices than with any intentional nationality assignments for the characters.

"Entertains" Heh heh heh. Let's pretend that Phoenix is English for a moment...

I don't think that the tea that Edgey drinks is any old tea. I distincly remember Phoenix saying "There is such a thing as taking a hobby too far" and "I prefer the instant tea bags myself" (or something to those effects.) So that would mean that Edgey has his tea imported from all over the world, and that he has several different varieties that he may even blend himself (Think the tea set in Professor Layton and the Diabolical box)

Now I wonder if someone will draw Oktoberfest von Karma's and Edgey. A little off topic here, sorry.

There are plenty of German traditions flowing about but it is really a fairly new country still, having not long been unified before WWI and the whole splitting up after WWII. You'll still get people who consider regional identity more important than National, much like Italy but Italy is a different story all together.

True.

But, having known some Germans, a lot of them speak English with a bit of a British accent to it. It could possibly be because their English teachers may have been British. That's just what I've observed, though. ^_^

Anyway if your o by stero-typical british then yeah, His posh accent. (I laughed for around 30 mins about his Take That) And Tea, Speaks for Itself.

Apart from that where the hell did this spring up from?I mean wasn't he American? He was a child when his dad died, (I'm assuming) In America so i would think he was American.

I'm confused who the hell first thought Edgey as British.

First of all, there is his "Take that" and "Hold it". British accent.
Second, in the demo of his game, he says he has a service from Englade and it's one of his favorite things.
Third, his love for tea.
And lastly, his appearance and behavior are so British. They're signing:"I'm one damn hot British, damn it!"

There is definitely truth in this. I'd met two people from the same country (Switzerland) who spoke the same form of the German language, but when they spoke English, they had completely different accents. The one taught by a British teacher had an obvious accent (I guess you could say it was more "British," but it sounded almost like the stereotypical German accent to me), and the one taught by an American teacher virtually had no accent (in comparison to the rest of the American people). You wouldn't even suspect this girl was from overseas until she slipped up in her sentence structure.

First point, again the localization team aren't professionals, so it could just be the dude they found to do those two sound bites wanted Edgeworth to sound posh, nothing wrong with that of course. And now that I think about what croot said, I have met some German people that had slight English accents when they spoke. Still, I say anything with the voice acting is an accident because Capcom of America didn't really put a lot of thought into it (otherwise they would have hired professionals).

Second point, by that logic I would be English because I have tea that is from England (thanks loob!). Anyone that has anything imported from any country would then be that nationality. Just because you have something from another country and it's your favorite, doesn't make you also from that country. One of my favorite shirts growing up was an Oxford University shirt, but just because I owned it didn't mean I went there (god I miss that shirt).

I love playing Devil's Advocate.

My parents blend tea too. We're Indian.

Also, why did we automatically skip to Earl Grey when we were talking about British tea? How come we just skipped past English Breakfast? Seems the obvious choice.

Anyway, I was watching Frasier reruns yesterday, and it occurred to me that his accent could be like Frasier's or Niles'.

When I heard his "Objection!", it did sound to have a more eloquent-Southern-England accent to it. This was further developed with his "Hold it!" and "Take That!" I also read his lines in a fairly English accent.

A Scottish Edgeworth? He'd turn up drunk to the courtroom and swear at everyone. Possibly with a bottle of scrumpy.

Scotsworth: "Your honour, if I may say that if you do not pass a guilty verdict, I will remove your Gavel from its tiny, wrinkly handed grip, and push it up your arse. And then I'll take Wright's arm and break it over the table!"

Wright: "..."

Scotsworth: "YE GOT A PROBLEM, MATE? *Glaswegian kiss* Och...kill...Oldbag...mon."
