From what I heard the controversy was surrounding the initial plot. The first black princess turning into a frog was considered racist (from what I heard). I hope PC does not destroy this movie, I have been waiting to long for a traditionally animated movie and I will not stand for PC to ruin it.

Yes because if she was white, it would be a-ok to turn her into a frog. D:

Disney can't win. There's even controversy over the firefly's accent.

Because hey, a firefly having a cajun accent in Louisiana is racist.

And then there was this:
"William Blackburn, former columnist at The Charlotte Observer, voiced his criticism of another matter. He stated that the "story is set in New Orleans, the setting of one of the most devastating tragedies to beset a black community" and felt the choice of this setting was "insensitive."

Well okay then, maybe we shouldn't film movies in cities such as New York City or San Francisco, or even countries like Russia or Germany anymore since they've all had terrible events happen there too. That would be extremely insensitive y'know.

What...? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. A tragedy happens in a city and then you can't make movies involving that city that don't even have anything to DO with the event?

What is the deal with people and this movie, seriously.

they said the same about L4D2, I think (that ends in New Orleans as well)

it's just a colourful city with lots of fun history and cool characteristics to do stuff with, people

So essentially, being 'different', or more specifically, an immigrant is an act of prejudice, and should be crushed.

Wow, thank-you western society, now I know that we're not supposed to support our diverse culture, but actively ignore it.

Oh, and if you go to Disneyland around this time, they'll give you free tickets to see the movie in theaters :D You just need to enter the activation code they give you online and print them out.

Sadly I've listened to most of the new songs already. And they all sound great!
In both Disneyland and Disney World, they just opened "Tiana's Showboat Jubilee". It's a musical production featuring the characters and music from the movie.
Here's the whole thing if you're interested, unless you don't want to hear any of the songs until the movie comes out.

hmm, I'll save that link for after I watch the movie since it's coming out in just a few weeks :D
Okay, why is the public complaining? I thought we went through this already. It's just a Disney princess movie; it's meant for entertainment, not accuracy, and they should stop mistaking everything for racism. Buuuuut I guess some things never change :/ Whatever, I know I'll enjoy this movie.

I'm really looking forward to this movie. Not only is it in 2D, which we have been seriously lacking these days in animated movies, but I love the Disney Princess movies. I've grown up on them, as well as other great Disney movies such as The Lion King, Pocahontas, Tarzan, etc. I've just gotten so tired of seeing computer animated movies (except for Pixar because they're effing amazing.), and I wasn't really impressed with Enchanted. I'm really hoping that this movie turns out to be a good one :edgy:

I swear, people can never be satisfied. Everything has to be politically correct and when they try to be so, then people are offended by it even more. I'm just glad that Disney makes movies with people of other ethnic backgrounds such as this movie and Mulan. There needs to be more movies like that, imho.

Oh god, really!? Oh, well, we might as well not make any sort of movies anymore because everything is insensitive and since every place in the world has had their share of problems, everybody is just going to be offended by it. There's no such thing as entertainment and fiction these days :yuusaku:

I watched the movie, and it was great (the Brazilian dub, at least). But I am simply impressed with the amount of senseless backlash it's getting for stupid reasons. The "insensitive" crap was just one of them, but there's MORE.

First, there's people complaining that prince Naveen ISN'T black, and Disney is just avoiding black characters despite the fact that the MAIN character, the VILLAIN, and freaking MAMA ODDIE are black. Then there are people complaining that Naveen IS black and that Disney should dare and have the first interracial couple... Because you know, Pocahontas NEVER happened.

Then, there's people saying that Tiana is Disney way telling women to stay in the kitchen simply because she aspire to achieve her dreams through *shudders* coooooking... I mean, really? Is cooking a taboo for feminism, now? Not to mention that Tiana is independent and a hard worker that wants to open a RESTAURANT. LIKE, OWN IT. But nooo, if she's in the kitchen, she's not a proper role model!

You know what? I give up... *Facepalm*... I just can't handle this stupidity anymore. There are other criticism, but I refuse to bring them up on account of their MASSIVE STUPIDITY... I need a freaking drink...

So...this movie came out a few days ago.

To those who have seen it, how does it compare to Disney's other animated films?

I say it does a pretty good job in keeping with the Disney tradition while also being a tad innovative. Heck, I liked it so much I want to watch it again!

Saw it today, and I loved it. Not on the same level as The Lion King, but still really cool, like Lady and the Tramp.

I wound up seeing this movie because Avatar in Imax 3D was sold out. Not a bad movie by any standards, but I wouldn't consider it as great as the older Disney movies. Still, it was oddly nostalgic to be seeing a traditionally-animated Disney movie.

FINALLY got around to seeing it. (My family was dragging their feet.)

And woooow was it great! The characters were hilarious (especially Lotta (Lottie? not sure what the nickname was)) and I couldn't stop laughing. And the songs were fantastic. It made me so happy to see another movie like this after so long. The last one was what, Tarzan?

Anyway the one last thing I have to say is this:

Pumbaa: Timon, do you ever wonder what those little twinkling lights are up there?

Timon: I don't wonder Pumbaa, I know! They're fireflies. Fireflies that got stuck up in that big bluish black thing.

OSHI-

Anyway, I happened to have seen the movie a few weeks back when it first came out. And I have to say, I loved it! I was a bit skeptical at first, but I think Princess and the Frog will go down as another Disney classic. Though it's a shame that the Squeakquel is higher on the box office...

I'm so happy that Disney is returning to traditional animation. In fact, they're already working on their next film based on Hans Christian Anderson's The Snow Queen. We just have to get through Rapunzel and the new Winnie the Pooh movie of course.
