Yes, folks sadly it has come down to this.

Director Sam Raimi and leading actor Tober McGuire (Peter Parker, if y'know... No one figured it out) had left the Spiderman 4 cast that was set to start filming in May, and release around that time next year.

I am shocked and frankly annoyed by this. I though the series was doing great (With the exception of 3 in some ways) and now it's done. If anything, there shouldn't be a reboot at all, leave it for about 15 years before doing so. :larry:

This isn't the first time Marvel had this sort of incident, The Punisher movie series for example.

I literally von Karma headbashed once I heard of this. To think, to quit when there's so much of the Spidey universe they didn't cover! They didn't even do Carnage!

And how's Peter Parker: The Movie gonna work? Are they going to make it a rom-com? No one's interested in Peter Parker if it doesn't have anything to do with his epically awesome alter-ego. It will flop. Big time. I'd be much happier if the would write scripts of Spidey 4, 5, 6 and any more sequels after that, and convert them into videogames. Spider-Man: The Final Trilogy, or something. Just get new voice actors (And rip the Spider-Man 2 gameplay) and there you go. Destined for game chart success.

There goes the franchise. Bye!
By the way, has anyone heard anything about "XMen: First Class" lately? Boy, that movie's gonna be amazing!!!

Seriously now, I won't pay to watch either this or the XMen prequels/spin-offs. If I ever watch them, it WILL have to be ilegally.

It doesn't necessarily mean there's gonna be a reboot. They could scrap it altogether, or they could just fast-forward a few years and use that as an excuse for a new Peter Parker. No use in jumping to conclusions just yet.

Spiderman's origin stories is one of the most interesting of super hero origins, Peter Parker is a good character, etc. But I really don't want to see anohter movie about it again. I'm getting really tired of seeing hero's origins over and over and over again. I wish they would just move on and do some stories that really explore the characters and the worlds in interesting ways, instead of rebooting ever couple of movies.

They already showed Spiderman's origin in the first movie, why bother again? :edgeworth:

And I was SO looking forward to see the Lizard in action!

Yeah well, it'll probably be based on Ultimate Spiderman as it's about Peter as a teenager. Which, still makes no sense...

Why doesn't it make any sense? The original spiderman was a high schooler. He eventually went through college, graduated, got a full time job, etc, but he started out as a teenager, so if they're rebooting it it makes sense to have him as a teenager.

Shame I liked Sam Raimi's dramatic style.

But Tobey McGuire.....meh he did it fine but I won't miss him.

Is gonna be odd if it's a direct sequel.

I'm glad they're not making a 4th one because by 3 I already felt like their source material was running thin. I know Spiderman has a long history and a ton of enemies to go through, but every movie was the same "WILL PETER GET MARY JANE!?" drama over and over. As long as the movies keep a commerical audience in mind (which has been the point of these last few super hero movies) they'll never be able to get away from the most familiar parts of canon, and thus can't help but do the same things over and over.

But it seems too soon to do a reboot, too. I agree with mcfeegle: enough with the origin stories! It doesn't seem like that long ago that we saw Peter Parker become Spiderman--can they really do a unique enough version of it so soon? Hollywood should lay off comics for a while and get around to making a video game movie that doesn't suck instead!

I'd say this statement is impossible.....excepting Spirit's Within but that's it. Every other game movie I've seen has sucked really.
Though they are getting out of origins movies I think, at least with what I think is the Avengers movie in the works, we've all seen the hints at the end of most modern marvel movies, maybe they'll get Spidey in for that?

I'm pretty sure they're waiting until after the Thor and Captain America movies to come out to do the Avengers. I kind of hope they don't include Spiderman in it, though. He's such a big name character on his own that he'd end up stealing the show. I don't want to see a Spiderman movie with some other Avengers thrown in. I want to see an Avengers movie.

But unfortunately, that Avengers movie will still be an origin story. It will just be an origin story of the team, although I guess that would be slightly more interesting.

Have some rumors:

May be the new spidey...

I really really really really really really really hope that this is not going to happen.

------------------------------

I always liked Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man and Peter Parker. The movies weren't that super awesome but they were quite entertaining. I'm also not sure why they decided to do a reboot-movie that early :/

Then go watch the first Mortal Kombat movie.

On topic I'm kind of sad the series is ending but at the same time 3 didn't really hold my interest which is saying a lot since I like Venom so eh.

If this happens, Spiderman will be a worse movie flop than Howard the Duck.

It wouldn't flop - Patz *can* act when there's material to work with. It would just mean Comic Con has to put up with even more Twilight fanpoodles flooding their geek convention, lol.

New info and more new info.

For the lazy people, here a little quote:
Quote:
Jamie Vanderbilt's script, according to THR, "sees a Spider-Man movie that will look and feel very different from the big movies that went before it. … The touchstone for the new movie will not be the 1960s comics, which were the inspiration behind the movies by [Sam] Raimi, who grew on up on them, but rather this past decade's Ultimate Spider-Man comics by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley where the villain-fighting took a back seat to the high school angst." The story will focus more on a high-schooler who is coping with his uncle's death and the fact that he did nothing to stop it.

Well, I gotta say Robert Pattison wouldn't even be that bad of a choice since it seems that the movie will suck anyway. I mean, the whole high school angst bullshit really fits his image. However, on the premiere day the cinemas would be filled with a shitlot of fangirls instead of the geeky usual Spiderman fans.

The problem isn't with Peter Parker being in High School, the problem is with it being based off Ultimate Spiderman. Darker and Edgier does not equal Better. In the case of the Ultimates, it equals much, much worse.

I actually like Ultimate comics better. But that's because I grew up reading that instead of traditional (should be 60 but isn't) Spidey. The trilogy itself, well the first movie is sort of Ultimate. Except it fast forwards into graduation, and Peter was a senior to begin with.

I have mized feelings, the negative is that things were doing great. After 3 the movies could look up, learn from a drastic mistake. But the positive is, new cast, replace the half/half ones we got (Though I like McGuire, you get used to him).

Frankly I think the cast is tired of playing their roles too, I mean Police Academy degraded after about... Yeah.

I only got into comics recently, so I don't really have any nostalgia biases. I just tend to prefer overly cheery things to overly dark things.

It could be good, though. I'll withhold judgment until I actually see it.
