One of my favorite series EVAH.

Been reading since volume one, watched the first anime, and am currently watching the second each week.

What about you guys? Love it? Hate it? Loved the manga and hated the first anime, or vice versa? I wouldn't know: I can't read minds.

I'll be your FMA buddy. :)

I wasn't the biggest fan of the first series. It was fun, but I think it definitely took a turn for the worse when they ran out of manga material and started pulling things out of nowhere. The nonstop MELODRAMA of the anime-only stuff started losing its impact, since it seemed like they were trying so hard. I won't even talk about the Nazi movie.

The best thing the first series did was introducing me to the manga. I'm amazed at what a great story is still unfolding in there. The monthly wait has been KILLING me, especially since it seems like we're so close to the conclusion now. Every single issue is blowing my mind a little more.

Brotherhood is amazing, since it's pretty much doing everything the way the author intended this time around. It's a way stronger story, and I think the cast is a lot stronger for it. Winry, for instance, felt really tacked on in the first series, like she never really found her place, except as a sex object in the ending credits. I never really felt much for her, one way or the other. She's a lot more useful and believable this time around, and I find myself really liking her. I hope she and Ed get a happy ending. :pearl:

Who's your favorite character? Mine's a tie between Hawkeye and Alphonse, with Izumi close behind.

Oddly enough, Kimblee, with Olivia Armstrong coming in at a close second. I dunno, I've always like sadistic bastards. That, and I feel good that Kimblee was a catalyst of sorts for Riza when he told her that "you put this uniform on of your own free will." It made her stay in the army, which is awesome because otherwise Mustang would have no one to help him out of tight situations. Also, he's just plain awesome sauce. I mean, come on: the suit! Look at the suit And Olivia has also got a lot of force driving her.

Anyways, I agree: the first anime would have been good if they stuck t the story, but I'm glad that Brotherhood is out now. Hoorah for remakes!

Kimblee's fly as hell. :)
He takes his job so seriously! That's something I really like about him in the manga/Brotherhood. I got the sense that he really had respect for the Rockbells for being the same way about their jobs, even though they were doing the opposite thing.

I don't know about Riza. I doubt she would have left Mustang that easily, though it might just be my inner shipper speaking.

i love the concept behind this. A boy soul sealed in a bunch of armor for attempting to bring back his dead mother? Just awesome, if you ask me...

But we musn't forget Ed! Still, it's pretty wicked that Al's trapped in his armor, especially since, in one of the recent chapters,

Spoiler:
Al gives up the chance to go back to his normal body because it's so unhealthy that he won't be able to fight.

I've been reading this, I find it a little slow at times but like a few of the characters so it is cool plus it can at times disturb me which is pretty good going. I would not rank it as high as some other series of this genre though.

Seriously that was the most heart wrenching thing since Nina Tucker. That's the sort of thing that makes me love Alphonse so much. He's all at once the sweet little brother you want to protect and a major badass who makes tough decisions. He's so much cooler than Ed. :3

Naruto! BELIEVE IT! No no, I mean Dragonball Z or perhaps Bleach or One Piece.

Haha, sorry, could not resist that lineup.

Proves that women can do action manga as well as men.Though genre wise, depends how you class things. I always will like things like Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, despite it's flaws and shallowness at times Claymore and Berserk. Though the first two can be seen as sci-fi action, though GitS:GIG is also heavy political while Claymore and Berserk are fantasy like Fullmetal but lacks a bit of the emotion I suppose, can not speak heavily about Berserk though. I prefer comedy in the end, so I suppose I suck as a critic. I guess I actually do not like Edward, Winry (who is only good for pretty female people to cosplay) or (shock) Roy Mustang helluva lot, though Roy is the best of these three.

That seemed odd to me but I take by the reaction means there is something to worry about for the enemy guy and danger involved, though it said that much but what is it, oooer.

I like the Armstrongs, Hawkeye, Hohenheim, Wrath, Greed, Ninja girl is a pain in the arse though and poor ole Barry the Chopper. Ok I am remembering the good comedy now, ha ha. Shame about Lust, love the authors little sketches and stories at the end of each volume more than some of the volumes, is that sad?

Actually that's natural. Even the author says she prefers doing the little bonus comics at the end, and it's hard not to love them. I mean, am I the only one who remembers "I make it a point to only allow women and cats into this armor"? It just seemed so, so green that I ended up memorizing the line, lol.

And yeah, Bleach is awesome, although it's mostly tyle over substance. Still, it's a very good style, so no complaints there!

I honestly don't like Edward that much, either. I think as soon as I accepted that is was a story about a whole bunch of characters, instead of thinking of Ed as the main character, I enjoyed the whole thing a lot more.

Seconded about Armstrong. He's clearly the winner. :)

So it occurred to me during Sunday's episode that Brotherhood is catching up to the manga pretty fast. Makes sense, since the manga's monthly, and the anime's weekly. Assuming that there are at least three issues of manga to go (she's got a lot to wrap up,) there's a pretty good chance that Brotherhood will catch up all the way before the manga concludes the story. What then? Hiatus? Filler arc? Wrap-up nazi movie?

Since it seems like there isn't too much to go before the end, they're probably gonna go on hiatus. However, if we're lucky, we'll get a decent movie. Hopefully scripted by Arakawa herself, and not those idiots who ruined the first series by pulling stuff out their ass to fill in for material.

Still, I'm really looking forward to the conclusion.

Brotherhood is definitely better. No extra, unnecessary drama, a more fascinating plot, better character development.

In total agreement! The problem with the first anime was that Arakawa intentionally asked for it to be different from the manga, for reasons unknown to us mortals. After that, well... things definitely went haywire and the scriptwriters were pulling these detaila out of nowhere. I mean, why would Mustang be chosen to kill the Rockbells? It makes a lot more sense for Scar to have killed them. Then, there was the ending...

I also noticed the plots of both series were essentially the same until after the whole Lab 5 incident went down. Darn, it pissed me off that Al suddenly became emo and OOC--not to mention idiotic--and ran away from the hospital like he did.

Both series are vastly different, so if possible it's best to get both. As in, there' s a REALLY BIG DIFFERENCE! But, for better quality it's probably best to wait for Brotherhood.

I think my icon can do the talking :will:

FMA was one of the first anime that I actually started watching. I started watching it when I was like...8 or 9 I think, the first time they actually started airing FMA on Adult Swim and the episodes were all new...
I never read the manga, but then again, I'm too lazy to read

Now they're airing Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, on a few different sites, like Hulu on Youtube.
I haven't formally sat down and watched it, but I kinda hate sitting and watching one video for more than 5 minutes, unless it's that interesting

Oh yeah, it is. Although a couple of the episodes don't have as much action as i like, the story is really worth it, and if you enjoyed the first anime, you're definitely gonna like Brotherhood. Although even if you don't like reading much, reading the printed manga is worth it if only for the funny little extras at the end.

Looks like Adult Swim has the rights to Brotherhood now, and are going to start airing it in March or so. They got most of the old English cast back, so if you're a fan of Vic Mignogna's wretched, whining tenor, you're in luck. They got a new Alphonse (since the actor's not a little kid anymore,) but rumor has it that they'll be giving him a new major role. I'm betting Ling.

I'm kind of a sub snob and a pirate, but I thought this might be good news for the fandom as a whole.

You thought Vic sounded whiny? I dunno, I love Romi Paku, but Vic's Ed voice really sounds more natural. Still, I think both are awesome. What I'm most worried about, though, is Scar's new VA. I didn't like Scar's first VA, so I'm hoping that this guy does a good job. But I agree, the Japanese voices are super awesome.

Which anime you should watch will really depend, though. If you like the manga story, please watch FMA: brotherhood. If not, you might enjoy the first FMA anime. But both have merit, so it's your choice.

Wow, what a great Valentine's Day gift for the people you love, cuddling up close to them while watching ed beat the crap out of the Ice Alchemist... in ENGLISH!!!

But I'm really looking forward to this, though. Any thoughts, comments, violent reactions?
