Hello! I was hooked to Castlevania series not too long ago via Wii's Virtual Console and Ps2. I used forums' search engine and found no good topic about the whole series but many about individual games such as Judgment, being the first fighting game in the series and so on :)

So, my favorite Castlevania games are Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse and Super Castlevania 4. Anyone else?

I absolutely love Castlevania. Abso-freakin'-lutely.

Though the recent games, I have to say are sucking too much balls... Dracula's eyeballs that is. (Yeah I played Simon's Quest *shudders*)

The PSP Castlevania, Castlevnia 3 and the one on the PSX has to be best in my opinion.

Don't worry, I've played it too. (On my opinion it wasn't so bad as AVGN said :bellboy: )

I hear there's a new one coming to Ps3 and Xbox 360 next Summer, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. I watched the trailer in YouTube and it looks great but it's not part of the original timeline -.-

I've only played the DS ones and i REALLLY want Judgement.

Still Ds wise:
Best OST - Order of Ecclesia. DUDE I LOVE THE MUSIC. Albus's tune "Sorrow's Distortion" Is my Fave.
OoE also has a good storyline but they REALLY messed up Albus mode.
Dawn of Sorrow was my fave. Well, Dawn and Aria of sorrow. really like these game and even the bounus modes had a storyline. And it wasn't too easy (I found OoE to easy) es wasn't WAYYYY to hard.
Portrait of Ruin I like because of the CO-OP feature but i found some bits wayyyyyy to hard and boring. (The final was was stupidly hard) still i really like the DS games.

Bwahaha! Love the thread subject. I just did a major clean-up of my house and found that I have a copy of Dracula X Chronicles for the PSP that I never even unwrapped. I'm not sure if I bought it as a gift for someone else way back when, or what. It's mine, now. :)

The thing that worries me is that they apparently re-translated Symphony of the Night. That game was always my favorite Castlevania, and it just wouldn't be the same without things like "What do you here?" and "What is a MAN?"

For me, I only played the DS ones, but I liked OoE the most. But I agree with Malteser, Dawn of Sorrow was way harder than OoE. I still haven't beaten the final boss yet. Probably have to upgrade my axe.
BTW love the topic heading :yogi:

After Brauner you have fight a team of Dracula + Death THEN with no breaks straight to Dracula final form. (Wh has this claw attack that if you cant get a heal in the middle of your finished.

a good soul for the final boss is Medusa head and a bow soul. (The one you charge up is the best)
Axe wise, It's not worth getting the step up after Golden Axe untill you finish the game. Since Death's soul get carried over to a new game.

And Everyone knows the line "What is a man" , It was on YGOTAS, even in a Phoenix wrong. (It's also the only one i can remeber aprt from an Albus Unused saying)

Actually, I'm stuck on the boss in the City of Haze. Plus, my game has an awkward habit of freezing at the worst time anyways.
As for the final boss, I have the buij and the mandoraga soul. Trying to get the Great Axe Armor to upgrade.

Topic's name is good.

As Malteser said music is supreme in Castlevania games. Simon's theme, Bloody Tears, Vampire Killer and all other songs are all classical.

I love Castlevania, but I don't think I've beaten a game (usually, I die too many times on the final battle I guess).

Also, I don't understand why people hate Dracula X so much....

I'm a huge fan of the series. My two favourite games are Symphony of the Night (best atmosphere, graphics, music) and Dawn of Sorrow (has pretty much everything you want in a Metroidvania) followed by Circle of the Moon, Order of Ecclesia and Aria of Sorrow. I find Harmony of Dissonance really underrated (sure, it's easy, but addictive as hell. And the music is great, even with the 8-bit style) and Portrait of Ruin a bit overrated (mainly because of the lack of exploration elements and exaggerated manga style). I really wouldn't mind if they didn't change the formula too much, because like Zelda's, it just works.

Ah Castlevania...

One of my favorite series. A majority of them are very great, there are a few select few that aren't though....

Honestly though I never had much trouble with beating them, PoR finale wasn't hard at all, Since...Wait Spoilers,

Spoiler: Finale
Death was with Dracula they toned him down a lot. I've always thought Death was the hardest boss for me in all the Castlevania's, Espically the one for Ps2....What was it....Was the supreme prequel...Explained the whip and what turned it into a vampire killer, pretty cool 3d, had a bizzare item duplication...Death was the final boss...

I guess right now my two favorites are Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow....Of course Symphony is there but...DRAT!!! Too many favorites...

And I'm kinda stuck again! On PoR for all of the world to know. Need some help beating the boss in the Sandy Grave please.
IDK but Portrait of Ruin is harder for me than Order of Ecclesia and Dawn of Sorrow.

Castlevania is one of my all time favourite game seri-
Kayne West: I'ma let ya finish, but GTA is one of teh best game series of all time!

Anyways, I've played all the DS games, and am working on beating the NES games and Super Castlevania 4, which is amazing! I wish I could get the WiiWare game but I can't get the internet on it! Hopefully my Wifi will make it work, but I can't see if it will for a week. So how is the Wiiware version?

I must ask, but is there any way to cast Sancturary safely in the boss battle against the twins in PoR? I know that I have to use it to get the good ending, but they keep interrupting the cast.

Ich got Judgment. At first I was -_- because of the English voices but when I explored the options menu I found out there were also Japanese voices selectable <3<3

Now that I've played Curse of Darkness and Judgment, I noticed that Merman and Iron Gladiator from Judgment looked exactly the same as in CoD. I wonder why they couldn't design new monsters? Were they short on staff?

I love Castlevania!

My favorites would probably have to be:

NES

- Castlevania
- Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse

SNES

- Super Castlevania IV
- Castlevania: Dracula X

PSX

- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

GBA

- Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance
- Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
- Castlevania: Circle of the Moon

DS

- Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
- Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
- Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin

Now, I know that my favorites are pretty much every 2D Castlevania game, but there are some I like more than others.

For example, I honestly believe that Castlevania should not be in 3D. The simple linear style is my favorite. My least favorites on the list above would have to be:

- Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (Sorry Ping', I found this one really difficult to think of as a Castlevania game)
- Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia (The style of glyph weaponry and the fact that every swing would drain your energy did not catch on for me)
- Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin (I did love the voice acting and art style, but like Ping' said, it was really lacking in many areas.)

And...Simon's Quest. I'm sorry. It's great, but so many faults were present in this game. Game Over would result in losing all your hearts, having to search every nook and cranny for pitfalls, secret passages (seriously, who would guess to crouch near a wall with a red crystal, or crouch with a blue crystal until the screen moves down?), and the easiest ending boss ever. (Honestly, why was Dracula shaped like Death, and why was it so easy to beat him?)

Anyways, that's my opinion. My favorite? It's gotta be Symphony of the Night.

"Die monster. You don't belong in this world!"
"What is a man? A miserable little pile of secrets. But enough talk, have at you!"

*Ahem....*

Hi....I'm Pierre.

And I'm a castlevania noob. At least in comparison Papermario up there.
I've only played (and beat though!) Aria of Sorrow which was awesome and.....Order of Ecclesia which was also quite awesome but I preferred AoS.

At first I was a little odd about how seemingly 'goalless' the gameplay is then I realised how fun it could be just running around in a castle so much exploring.

So yea...I like it.

I somehow agree and disagree at the same time. I have all the NES Castlevanias and SCV4 on my Wii and I've just bought Vampire's Kiss/Dracula X for 95€, but I also own Curse of Darkness for Ps2 and Judgment for Wii. While Judgment cannot be taken seriously Curse of Darkness impressed me with its controls and voice-acting. Yes its a little unpolished, but a good game.

Without using the "Flames", "Laurels" or "Golden Dagger", I couldn't beat him. He's actually pretty hard without the subweapons, but because in the beginning of the battle he just stands there, he's deadmeat. It's obviously a design flaw. And as for his wight-like appearance, maybe they tried to make him scary. Who knows, it's Konami buddy :will:
